losing motivation, need help

I haven't worked out for at least 1 week 1/2. I don't know why, but in the mornings I have not motivation to workout like I used to . It seems like I'm losing it. I want to workout, but just can't get myself up to it anymore. I work 2nd shift so I come home around 1am and sleep at around 2am. I try to wake up at 11am, but i end up hitting the snooze button.

Is there any ideas I can get to keep me motivated???

It seems I hit some kind of plataeu when it comes to motivation.

Maybe changing your gym routine might get you interested again, trying new exercises or setting short term goals like incresing strength or speed in a particular area.

Sometimes I find that making small changes elsewhere can get me motivated in other areas of my life (new haircut, clothes, hobby, etc). It just seems to break the boring routine and changes your outlook a little.

Otherwise, maybe its a diet thing; or are you depressed or bored with your job?

im bored with my job, but thats not it. Maybe it has to do with dieting. It seems like I am losing weight more than gaining weight and I tried everything to gain weight. Eating right, eating a lot, etc. Its frustrating me. It seems like to much hard work for little or not gains.
i also change my routine so I dont thinnk its that.

This problem is more personal than anything. You just have to reach that state of mind where you know that you have to follow-through with your routine. There is not a whole lot I can say to help you, some people won't ever get that.

I can suggest that you write your weekly routine down, and stick to it. If you go three times a week, make it monday, wednesday, saturday and STICK TO IT. Write it down, put it on your wall, and every morning wake up to it as a reminder that it is your goal, and you must follow-through.

That on-and-off crap won't work.

I understand what your saying, I just have to push myself harder I guess. Thats how everything has been in my life. I start something, follow through with it and after a while if I dont see it happening the way I want it to(for example I dont see any gains in my workouts) then I lose motivation.

I end up not sticking to it. In a way I give up. I hate the way that sounds, but I think its true.

I guess I have to keep on pushing myself. Its so hard though.

I agree with Cassidy - try something new. Take some classes, try different sports, just mix it up some and hopefully you will find something that will keep you motivated.

Maybe find an exercise "buddy". Sometimes when you have someone that you workout with, that keeps you motivated as well. If you know someone is waiting for you at the gym, you will be more likely to show up.

Good luck to you.

hi there
from all the advice and suggestions presented (which is all good) the key word used is the word "new".
If we understand and come to a human realization, the word new means "fresh" that which is created and generrated.
If this word new is taken into the field of exercise and health, and applied to a change, you need to make it happen by bringing something new and fresh into the exercise and this might be a new attitude to every workout session. The exercise reamians the same but it will be the "exerciser" who makes this thing called exercise significant. Ask yourself, "am I exercise because it is important or because it is popular?" Do I do it for fitness to "fit in" society's pattern for living or for the health of my life?
If you have a dull mind, you have a insensitive brain that conditions a body to be lazy. You can try to go and exercise but if you only mimic the exercises their is no real connection. A person can "copy-cat" exercise movements but how can you duplicate good health". There could be soemthing missing in your exercise routine and it might be You.
If you truly wish to get back into your workouts, bring something new and fresh. Don't see your body as it was yesterday because with every new day, the body is very different. The human mind is the same because it wants to take charge (too much thinking about this and that) until it allows the heart to take part.
If you clearly understand your lack of motivation you will learn to bring in newness and freshness of new healthy energy because you won't be wasting energy fro the same old thinking.
Now to help with all this stuff I talked about, every breath you take in is never the same one. It is always new when you are aware of it. It would be unhealthy if was the same and your body would sooner or later let you know this before your mind does.
Don't take your body's health internally and externally for grant it. You only got one body sobe well and kind with it. No one can make you healthy and exercise is only as good from what it is you bring into it. Take it one breath and a time and then follow up with one step at a time
Alrighty, I do hope this might help in small way that may lead to bigger and better things for you and exercise!
That's it for now!

specialk, i dont know what I can say that can motivate you. Maybe you needed that week off to relax and heal. you also said your not seeing any gains. I cant believe that. I'm sure you've made plenty of gains and you just arent giving yourself credit. Keep trying!

Let me start off by telling you all that I go to a really nerdy college. barely anyone there exercises, but they keep themselves healthy and thin. This made me realize that the common man or woman doesnt workout that much. This made me realize that anyone who works out, even if its only once a week, is gonna be buffer than the average person. What I want you to know, specialk, is that no matter what few gains you think you've made, im sure your above average when it comes to buffness / strength / in-shape. I also believe that even if you were doing everything wrong in your workouts, you'd still be buffer someone who did nothing. Rememba, everyone looks weak compared to Schwarzenegger or Stallone. so stop pissin' and moanin' and keep pumping iron. we need more of us out there!

another tip, see if you can do before and after pictures.

ill try that before and after stuff, maybe ill convince myself that I made decent gains.
im gonna get a phone that is able to take pictures. I'll use that to monitor my befroe and after.

dont get the wrong impression, but i measure / have someone measure me. For example, I get someone to measure my chest size, and I measure my around my arm (bicep and tricep). that seems to help
