lose weight or gain muscle?

i am having difficulty deciding whether i want to focus on losing weight or gaining muscle, because i need/want both...i havent been able to stay with a diet at all so im thinkin that i should eat somewhat like i always do, just with cutting out snacks, and drinkin protein shakes and eating high protein food...that sort of sounds like im changing the whole diet, but ill do this without the feeling that i am not allowed certain things, just the feelign of no restriction is better than most of the food i crave...i guess when i feel that i cant eat certain foods, i am more likely to crave them, which is probably something thats been said for ages...so switching to a high protein eating plan to mainly gain muscle and not focus as much on weight loss, good idea?

im not an expert, so here's my humble opinion

'expert' physique trainers build bulk and then cut, or visa versa. This takes a lot of patience and a lot of attention to detail. Once you bulk you have to cut or else stay slightly overfattened.

if you are new to it all start by getting your body used to excercise, with both cardio and resistance training on separate days.

then start doing the different muscle groups on different days and leave 48 hours between working the same muscles again, so do arms on monday and wednesday, abs on tuesday and thursday etc etc. throw in a couple of half hour cardio sessions and maybe a HIIT (interval) session when you feel ready for it.

as far as diet goes cut out the saturated fat and build up the protein intake, there's plenty of dietry advice for all approaches on here. eat more but smaller meals and you'll notice the change quite quickly. if you crave cetain foods dont stop eating them altogether, just make sure your sensible with them, have a good treat meal (anything you want) at the weekend. drinking water when you think your hungry always works and will stop you over feeding yourself.

most of all, be patient and stick it out even on those days you cant be bothered, just dont get obsessive about it or it'll never last

good luck

you should put your efforts into gaining muscle.
People dont realize, but a good heavy weight lifting workout will burn as many calories as if you spent the same time running.

Plus you have 2 added benefits.
1 - when you have worked your muscles, they then require calories to heal. your muscle will take a few days to heal properly, so not only are you burning cals while your training, but for 2days after as well.

2 - the bigger your muscles the more calories they require to heal, therfore the more muscle mass you have the faster your metabolism.

Dont blow CV out the window its still improtant.
Try doing 20mins a day of HIIT.
