loose weight and build muscle

If I am trying to loose weight and build muscle. Should I be doing cardio and lifting? or should I first loose the weight by just focusing on cardio and then once I am at the desired weight, start lifting?

You can't do them at once. You have to eat an excess of calories to build muscle and not eat enough calories to burn fat. If I were you, I'd first bulk (lift hard and eat a ton). You will gain some fat doing this, so then you diet and run. Lift while you are dieting, because this will help you maintain the muscle that you gained. Trust me, bulk first - the more muscle you have, the easier it is for you to lose weight.

Do both. A combo of the two will help you lose weight more effectively than cardio alone. I would choose weights over cardio if I had to pick, but thats just me. You can lose weight and gain strength together, but not increase muscle size.
