Loose Skin

Ok, I'm not sure if I buy what this person is saying and I am going to throw in my own personal experience here as an example.

Starting at the age of 10 I started gaining weight..when I was 21 I weighed about 190lbs (I'm a 5.2' female by the way). I lost over 70lbs very steadily exercising and calorie counting..on average I lost about 2-3lbs a week and it took about a year. I was left with a saggy stomach and boobs that looked like a sock with a potato in each!! I maintained the weight loss for about 11 years. (By the way all through the weight loss period and beyond, to this day, I exercise every day).

Three years ago I couldn't take my saggy skin anymore. I'd maintained my weight loss for 11 years and I wanted a flat stomach.. so I went and had a tummy tuck and breast augmentation. After the operation and the swelling went down I had a stomach you could bounce quarters off. (I gained 30lbs in the past 2 years as I started working from home but I still have a stomach you can bounce quarters off). My point is, I did it 'right' I took my time with the weight loss, exercised and I still had the skin. Surgery was my only option. My surgeon told me that no amount of exercise would help me. Just my little story, but surgery wasn't something I rushed into...it was 11 years following my weight loss of watching my weight, exercising and I did not bounce back.

I just thought others might want to hear my side of things :)

I think the guy is full of baloney and just trying to sell a product. Good for him like 70% of loose skin it eventually goes away by itself.
But there are people who loose a LOT of weight and it will never ever go away.

Sure they can kill themselfs bringing themselves to 10% body fat or similar so its not so noticeable, but its still gonna be there :)

and for the record, i was 65% body fat before i started. I know for a fact that i will have surgery to remove excess skin afterwards, however i plan on waiting a year or two to see how much naturally goes away first :)

Another Loose-Skin Question

Hi guys, I have another question of loose skin, now everywhere I read and everyone I talk to says give skin a year or so to contract as much as its going to, and wait a year to consider surgery.

Now my question is, does that mean a year AFTER weightloss or a year after starting to lose weight.

So I was googling about loose skin after a lot of weight loss, I'm still worried about it. LOL. I've only lost 10lbs and I'm thinking ahead. Anyhoo. What this guy says makes sense to me, I don't think that surgery is the only option, that's a relief.

Let me know whatcha think.

i dont think loosing 10lbs would mean you had any loose skin, i lost 7 stone now thats when you see major loose skin

i totally agree, i lost 7 stone my skin was like a marque, i think this article is more about a bit of loose skin major loose skin=surgery its the only way, ive been there, lost the weight, done the gym still had the skin, when i had mine removed they said i might need lipo, however they said it was pure skin which was removed so that throws this theory out of the window im afraid.

id like to see any pics of people who lost 7 stone and have no loose skin, then i will believe this xxx

I've lost 40 pounds over the last year. I can already tell I am going to have loose skin. My stomach will be hanging down to my knees. As soon as I lose all my weight I am getting a tummy tuck. My arms and inner thighs will bounce back. I know my gut won't.

hold off for a year or two Amanda, your skin will shrink a bit and it will save you a bit of scars and extra money removing it :D

Having seen your other pics it looks to me you still have some fat to lose, but yes it is time AFTER you have your end weight.

If you have any lose skin, a simple bulk program would take care of what little you could have left.

I am looking to lose nearly 100 lbs and have lost the first five already .. am pleased but it's a long way to go. I am wondering if I am likely to have a big problem with lose skin when I am finished? It won't put me off doing it obviously - I'd rather be a normal weight with loose skin than obese without it - but I'd like to know what to expect if you lose that sort of weight.

A year or two after you FINISH :)

depends on lotsa things, nobody can tell you until you've lost. Some people younger or whatever bounce back more than others. some loose 40lb and have tons of spare skin.
100lbs i would expect at least SOME saggy skin though at a guess.
And yeah, better to be skinny with loose skin than obese without - easier to hide spare skin and look good than find clothes to fit obese or hide it lol

I can live with a big of saggy skin - I've seen my thin sister's stomach after two pregnancies so I was expecting something like that :) - but I don't want to look like a blimp that's been rapidly deflated. But oh well, we'll just have to see.

If it did come to surgery, and I am jumping the gun here, does anyone know if it's available on the NHS or if not, how much it costs?

i think USD about 5-10k
But i could be wrong - thats just the currency conversion from here - pricing could be different over there

So as long as i am exercising and cutting calories i should be okay? Losing it slowly? Lol i am freaking out now, i dont want to have to go under the knife to see it gone.....

What's the point of worrying about it now? My tummy looks like an old lady right now, but I still have a ways to go, and there's no way I could afford surgery right now, even if I wanted to. Focus on your health, and the rest will come. :)

this happend to me i was 5 foot 6 220 and lost 70 pounds now i grew to 5 foot 11 but i gained the weight back and am planing to lose 40 pounds get to around 175 the loose skin sucks but i guess with time and exersize it will go away

Definitely better to have the skin and the fat :). And I certainly do not want to quit just cos I might get a bit of loose skin!
