Loose Skin

I don't know about alot of weight but so far with the weight I have lost it's keeping up and steadily shrinking so I'm not expected alot of extra skin. I know people that have lost a bunch due to surgery the they have a skin problem so I think if your losing the few pounds a week there wont be a huge problem. Then again it could be that age and how long it has been stretched out could have a lot to it.

My arms had extra skin and I couldn't stand it. So I started doing strenght training with my cardio routine and it has definetly made a hugh improvement. I thought about stopping when my arms became tone but didn't so my arms are now a little on the musculer side, which suits me fine. Now if only that will happen on my stomach and butt I'll be happy. I've lost 35 lbs. which is halfway to my goal.

The Myth of Loose Skin

So I was googling about loose skin after a lot of weight loss, I'm still worried about it. LOL. I've only lost 10lbs and I'm thinking ahead. Anyhoo. What this guy says makes sense to me, I don't think that surgery is the only option, that's a relief.

Let me know whatcha think.

It's an interesting site... I am finding it hard to concentrate on what he's putting though as it's a little long winded.

I'd say anything is worth a try if you have lose skin (or are worried that you will!) before you resort to surgery.

He's basically just saying that loose skin is not JUST skin, but little sags of fat. He says that skin doesn't stay stretched out, that it snaps back to its normalty, just as it can expand. He says basically all we need to do is to just gain lean muscle to replace that fat, by exercising.

Definitely a last resort. Thanks for the reply.

I'm scared of stretch marks! i can see some on my stomach and it's scaring me!!! my boyfriend was absolutely disgusted when he saw them.im gona dump him soon.. what a bastard. haha.

Hmm, ok then, lol. Anywho, most of my stretch marks from getting fat have already gone away, they were bad too and barely noticeable now.

I was amazed that my skin was as elastic as it has been. I expected to have a big bunch of loose skin hanging around my midsection, but it contracted almost completely (I was 31 at the time). The skin is still a bit loose at the belly and inside of the thighs, but I really don't notice it much unless I pull at it or bend acutely at the waist. Some stretch marks are still there over 5 years after. I just look at them like any other scar. Just some proof I've led an interesting life.

I've read it before, and it sounds pretty sensible. It argues a good case for balancing sensible calorie cutting with strength training as a way of reducing weight.

Of course skin can get tighter again -to a degree anyway -or else all mothers would be walking around with a huge sack of skin in front I think. (I know some people do get lots of stretch marks etc but nothing like it would be if the skin just stayed stretched.)

But I don't know what what degree you can eliminate ALL the excess really.

I've heard that Vitamine E oil is good for tightening loose skin and making stretch marks more subtle!

Hmmm...

Obviously, this guy has never been pregnant with a 10 lb baby!

I am currently 35 lbs under my pre-pregnancy weight, And I still have a saggy stomach (my baby is 5 months old). I've been doing tons of crunches, so my abs are pretty toned, but my stomach will never look like it did before the pregnancy stretched it out.

According to him there's still fat under there because skin doesn't just hang by itself. Crunches doesn't burn fat, you still gotta do cardio and strength training to do that. The more fat you burn, the better the abs will show through.

But who knows. Everybody might be different.

I am not sure about the whole skin therory after watching this chcik on
Doctor 90210 she lost 120 lbs on her own worked out alot did martial arts
but the exccess skin wouldn't go away the doc said no matter how many
situps crunches workouts that extra skin wouldn't go away and from the
looks of it I don't think so either.I noticed since I have lost 60 lbs my tummy is trying to head south so I am hoping it doesn't look like hers any1 else noticing this with weight loss?Tammy

I think there is a fundamental difference between pregnant and overweight skin. My stomach wasn't stretched out by excess fat; it was stretched by a uterus that was 40 times its normal size!

I'm not saying that my stomach is destined to always look pregnant (there isn't an enlarged uterus to support it), but it will never look like it once did.

Nevertheless, I will continue to work-out and do my crunches everyday!

I've been worried about this too.

I have what someone once referred to as a "double gut," and it's pretty disgusting. When I lose weight, I'm afraid that I'll have excess skin.

My aunt lost a lot of weight and has excess skin, particularly on her arms. She had gastric bypass, though, and she doesn't eat right or exercise... so she probably could get rid of them, but I'm not sure.

I have stretch marks everywhere-- my arms, my legs, my stomach, my chest. It's revolting. They're not pink anymore. They're white.

I've been overweight for so long...

There is a lot of logic in what the guy says, most people who talk about loose skin being something that happens and never goes away are talking about VERY overweight people or mature people, or people who dont eat right nor excersice to burn the fat, they never talk about young people, I'm 18, lost weight, and I -am- "soft" as you can read in my first post, but it -does- seems and feels like there is still fat in there, it doesn't hangs, it's just not as tight as it should, so it makes sence that if you burn the fat in there and work out enough, and eat the right things, it can go away, the body has a lot of plasticity, I think the actual problem is to know what's the right thing to do to burn fat or the right excersices for these areas, I think it would be really illogic if an 18 years old who wasnt even THAT fat wouldbe left with "loose" skin after doing excersice and eating well.

Loose Skin + Fasting = Skinny?

Hello,

I'm a 6'1" male who previously weighed 260 lbs., but lost 70 pounds within the span of a year or so. Unfortunately, I have loose skin around my abs, which is especially noticable in my "love handles." I was thinking of fasting for two weeks, would that be an effective way to lose my loose skin rapidly? I know everyone says exercising is the greatest way to tighten your skin, but I've tried it and it doesn't seem to work. I thought my skin would tighten up after time, but I've had the weight gone for 3 years now, and my love handles are still huge. Any suggestions? Would fasting work?

Thanks!
