Looking to lose an extra human I apparently picked up along the way

176.5 again this morning which I'll definitely take. Ate too much at the parents as usual, but wasn't too bad and also instead of having my day off, went to the gym and did a half hour of max incline brisk walking followed by the bike. 46 minutes at 134 average heart rate (including the walk home) calculates out to over 500 calories net, so I'm hoping that mitigated most of the damage. Worst case scenario was probably maintenance.

Back to the solo training regime today. Pullups, dips, lat pulldowns, pushups, dumbbell curls, overhead dumbbell press.

Hope the solo training went well. I don't know why, but I just don't like dumbbell curls. Maybe I'm using too much weight. First world problems...

176 this morning (actually closer to 175.75). So that's 199 pounds lost.

On the dumbbell curls, they're apparently not my best exercise. The idea is to go straight from the alternating dumbbell curls into the alternating overhead presses, the idea being it should be roughly the same amount of weight. But right now the overhead presses are way ahead of the curls, I'm in danger of needing to up the weight on them again, while being far away from that point in the curls. Actually I'm pretty sure it's just a discrepancy when it comes to my left.

Anyhow, basketball later today. Right now it's omelet time.

Sooooo close to 2hundo! The extra workout must have worked.

OHP uses the delts and upper body along with the triceps. You should be stronger in OHP than curls. When I did OHP regularly it was more than double what I could curl. Initially I could see them being similar, but having OHP get ahead is a matter of becoming stronger in pressing and not a weakness in curling. Curling has a low ceiling for gains compared to OHP. I've never done presses alternating so maybe that makes a difference, but I wouldn't think it would change much. You could go heavier and lessen the reps for curls or just setup with 2 sets of dumbbells.

You'll be able to shift focus soon enough. Making any gains on any lifts while in caloric deficit is awesome. Trying to inch forward will certainly guarantee that you aren't losing muscle mass or at least that it is minimized. I assume once you reach your 165 goal weight that you will try to gain lean weight. Do you have a weight target to maintain or are you going to see what feels/looks right? I assume that heavier than your current weight with really low BF is feasible for you.

Hope you're having a good day V. I get confused with all the lifts and deficits and mass stuff but I assume it means you are kicking ass still. xo

There's essentially two issues:

1) Trying to get my body fat down to below 12% (ideally as low as 10%) isn't just some odd mathematically quixotic goal. What is usually referred to as "loose skin" actually has more to do with body fat. Yes the skin has lost some elasticity, but the fat deposits underneath are what causes the sagging. Reduce those and the elasticity can improve even more and the appearance of the skin improves dramatically. I've seen mentioned in several spots (including by my own doctor) that getting your body fat as close down to 10% (more for women) as possible is advisable before considering having the contour surgery, because it's possible you'll not feel you need it by then.

2) Once I've gotten rid of the remaining excess fat, it becomes quite possible that even if I gain some fat back while adding muscle, that it would get distributed like on a normal human being instead of just going straight back to sagging skin. I have no desire to go on a cutting/bulking cycle like a body builder, but there's a reason why they do that and it's to gain muscle while losing fat. Since that's what I want to do, a little of that may be what's in store. #thinpeopleproblems

Anyway, 175.5 this morning (a new low). Actually it's closer to 175.25, but this one is too big a milestone to fudge. My old cheap digital scale, which I stopped using because it was not able to weigh me over 300 pounds, said 175.2.

In other news, the handheld body fat monitor said 16.7%. That's easily a new low (I had a couple of 17.7% before but most everything else above 18%). The bad news is tomorrow is Thanksgiving, the biggest food orgy of the entire 365.242 day year. If I could break the 200 pounds lost barrier tomorrow morning, before the food onslaught, that would be kinda neat.

Kinda neat? Yeah kinda. Kick ass Vee!

I really appreciate you taking the time to explain your goals. You've educated me on something that I will need to know eventually and I thank you for that.

Not that much hinges on my opinion, but I will still say that I am completely in your camp with your goals now that I understand them. Losing to a low bodyfat makes sense. Especially if it could mean no contour surgery.

I never considered that losing most of the non-essential fat might effect redistribution with minor fat regain, but it makes sense. Most of your fat cells are in your torso and not under your triceps after all.

I hope you are celebrating 200 pounds lost in the morning. Something to be thankful for for sure.

Now I understand too Vee! WOWSERS! I often start to give you lots of cheek, but then stop myself. It is really amazing what you have done & still are doing, xo Cate

Well,

So in the rest of the world, today is Thursday, November 27 and I've lost 90.7 kg. In the US, it's Thanksgiving and I've lost 200 pounds. This doesn't feel so bad.

What's the next milestone? At this point, where my head is currently at, there's really only one possibility: the finish line (at least for the actual initial weight loss portion of this journey). At 160 I'd be a 22.3 BMI, which is certainly slender, but at least numerically not anything sickly or anorexic.

Body fat: my five day average on my body fat monitor is 17.5% and my five day average on my weight is 175.9. If I lose 15.9 pounds, and assuming a 3:1 ratio of fat loss to lean mass loss (which is a normalish rate, but it's certainly possible I could do better than that), I'd be at 11.8% body fat at 160.

I don't know if I'll look like that, but you get the general idea. So the finish line will be 160 or whenever I get a five day average of 10% body fat, whichever comes first (likely the 160). When I get to 160, I'll shell out the two hundred bucks and go back for the DEXA scan to get the exact (or as close as you can get while still alive) numbers. At a pound a week average, that makes it Wednesday, March 18 as the ETA.

Anyway, thanks for reading this far. Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends and happy Thursday to everyone else. I've earned my turkey and pumpkin pie today. Take care.

:party:200!

Yes! What a memorable Thanksgiving! I'm super proud of you Vee! You'll get 160 and the super low BF% if that's what you want. Last goal! Wow! Happy Thanksgiving Vee!

You will indeed get to where you want to be. Happy Thanksgiving Vee & Happy Friday, here in the future :D

So 180.5 this morning. :D

Pretty sure Satan invented Thanksgiving. Oh well. The food was delicious and it's going to be almost all water weight anyway.
