Looking to lose an extra human I apparently picked up along the way

Thanks Jade. It has not been easy, though ironically the early stages (say the first year and a half) were much easier psychologically: I knew what I had to do, knew what it took to do it and new what it looked like when I was successful. Now that I'm down where I am, the ambiguity of life is back and answers are much more difficult to come by.

169.5 this morning and yesterday morning. 15.9% on the monitor yesterday, 14.9% on the monitor today. Ultimately for the next two months, that monitor will be one key, with the amount of weight I'm successfully lifting being the main key.

Night time is weird. For a formerly fat guy, wondering whether you've eaten enough is a strange feeling. My guide line will be to try and hit my target as accurately as possible, and if I feel hunger at night, eat a small snack. Oddly enough if I'm going to err doing this, it's better to err on the side of gaining weight too rapidly (IE > 0.5 pounds a week) than not rapidly enough.

My gym has been closed all week, so I'd been going to a different location. Supposedly it re-opens this week, so I'm going to head over now.

I'm sure it must be weird to eat more now to try to gain weight, but as long as you stay focus on the fitness/recomp goals I'm sure you'll do great!

I think you have done fantastically well. Reading your diary has been absolutely inspiring. You have never once moaned, or complained, have always been positive and reached your goal. Not many people can say that.

Thanks guys. Polly, to be fair, I complain all the time just usually not about losing weight. Dating however, I complain about constantly. It's annoying.

Anyway 169.5 again today, 15.4% on the monitor. Push workout in and it seems like I'm definitely moving more weight. Me strong.

Time to drink protein shake...

Hey, strong Vee! I have to strengthen my core & stretch more apparently. Not sure where to start really, but I will surely try. Can you believe I lost 1.5kg over the weekend? - fish'n chips, pizza & wine! I, too fooled those scales! Crazy!

This took me back many years. I was on the Cambridge diet and the weight was dropping off me. I had a young family and to be honest ignored my husbands advice that I was looking ill. My mum came to stay, took one look, went in the kitchen and cooked me a plate of egg and chips! By gum I felt better after that

Alright 171 this morning (which is actually down from 171.5 yesterday). As long as I remain under 178 for the next seven weeks I'll be fine.

Working really hard this week, and turned 44 a couple of days ago. The latter caused a minor spike in my weight (birthday dessert).

My lifts continue to go fine. Today was push day and that means bench press. The bench might be the best all-purpose gauge to your level of strength. If that's the case than I'm definitely getting stronger as I lifted 5 reps today of a weight that I had trouble budging not that long ago.

Belated Happy Birthday Vee! I'm sorry I missed it. I should have the WLF birthdays in my diary! :blush5: Glad things are going well for you with your plan, xoxo Cate.

170.5 this morning. It's kinda weird now that whatever that number that is, it's neither good nor bad. I suppose it needs to trend up, but only ever so slightly and I added several pounds in a hurry with the diet change. Strength and body fat is the key.

To that end I'm going to use my nifty body tape measure:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Health-o-Meter-Digital-Tape-Measure/20512802

And measure my natural waist after I weigh. 29.9 inches today which is just fine. If I keep that steady or if it only increases slightly while my weight goes up, I'll be good.

Need to do a better job on focusing my calorie increase on good calories and not just eat junk just because I now have some room for it.

29.9" waist....so jealous. OK I'm going to start measuring as of- tomorrow. I haven't measured myself for a couple of years. I just started IF today & it will be interesting to see if I lose measurable fat! Enough of the junk eating Vee! xoCate

I think so Mystic, but it's actually hard to know. I just have to keep lifting weights and pay attention to how my pants are fitting.

171.5 this morning, 29.8 inches on the waist.

So since this is a weight loss forum but I'm not currently trying to lose weight, I figure I'll lay out the schedule as I see it. Bulk = calorie goal to try and gain 1/2 pound a week, Recomp = maintenance calories, Cut = calorie goal to try and lose a pound a week.

Current = Bulk
October 12 = Recomp
October 19 = Cut
November 16 = Recomp
November 23 = Bulk
January 18 = Recomp
January 25 = Cut

And at this point I'll have a much better idea of exactly what it is I'm accomplishing. It's set up so the idea is that I gain and lose the same amount of weight on bulks and cuts. It's also nicely set up so that I'm bulking over the holidays since it's really hard for most folks to meet calorie restrictions on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's.

If this all goes according to plan, I may double the length of the cycles for 2016: Cuts = 8 weeks, Bulks = 16 weeks. Again this is somewhat strange for me since all of this is new territory, but to get where I'd like to be, apparently this type of thing is how I'm supposed to do it.

We are really interested in the possibilities of life at goal weight Vee & this is a weight-loss fitness forum & you are leading the way for many of us. I'm happy to be a case study in the 5:2 "diet"- a kilo down & feeling great after the first day. I don't care what that kilo is(unless it's muscle, which it shouldn't be!)
It must feel very strange being at your goal weight, (I remember it well) but by bulking up, you are re-directing your focus & that should be a good thing. Now, if you start to look like the incredible hulk I'll have to say something....just saying xo Cate

170.5 today. 29.9 inches on the waist.

Seems like I got conclusive proof that I'm getting stronger on today's push workout. It's the easiest one to judge as all of the exercises are pretty straight forward and bench is a good barometer for overall upper body strength. Very happy about this.

Going to get ambitious tonight and try out this recipe for dinner:

http://www.fedmanwalking.com/content/recipe-roaring-forks-green-chili-pork

A local restaurant serves this and it's usually very yummy. So I'm going to give it a go. Probably won't do the flour tortillas, though.

Good news on the increase in strength Vee. That recipe looks delicious & I don't usually eat pork!

170 this morning 29.7 inches on the waist. Really going to track the weight closely. Won't make an adjustment until I get about a dozen weigh ins. But if the weight still isn't trending up, will have to eat more.

Legs day completed. Man, legs day sucks.

Wound up not doing the pork stew last night as I couldn't wrangle a few of the needed spices. Once I get those I'll try again. Did have carnitas instead as I did have the spices for those. Very yummy.
