Looking to get fit

hey guys, I'm new here and I had a couple questions. Recently I started working out after a while of lazy activity. I'm looking to loose the gut I have and get into shape. Right now I am weighing in at around 180. I am 19 years old and 5 foot 10. What I'm here for is to get some tips on some exercises I can do around the house to get into shape. I can only make it to the gym about 3 times a week.

Also does anyone have a good workout plan for someone with my stats? this can include stuff to do at the gym (Planet Fitness) or even stuff around the house.

3 times a week at the gym is good. Other than that, do cardio.

However, these 3 days at the gym are not consecutive are they?

Yeah the gym 3 times a week is good. And Evan is right to make sure that you are at least alternating them... I even suggest that you mix in some weeks with only 2 workout days.

Weight train with your big muscles and keep the exercises compound. No machines! If you have to start with little weight, who cares! Doing it right will bring results faster.

When it comes to a program, there are so many different combinations you can use. One thing to make sure though is to keep changing things up. Do not do the same routine for more than 4 weeks. The average person's body will start to become really efficient at the exercises at 4 weeks.

When it comes to the cardio keep it short... you don't want to over train. Short means no longer than 20 minutes.

Bottom line... get in there and take action... just don't injure yourself.

That's a big bunch of arse

It's not always wise to exercise the same muscle groups on consectutive days but with the right training schedule you can train on consectutive days.

OP - What kind of schedule do you follow now? If you don't have one then what are the main lifts you've been focusing on?
