Logan's journey begins..

Great job avoiding all the temptations that seem to come your way... I've been having some issues lately with that and reading how you overcame it really helps out.

Looks like you're keeping up with everything, great work!

Nice job at lunch! It's important to have a little bit of everything at family gatherings (including dessert), otherwise whoever made the food will glare at you. And you made up for it with dinner!

Thanks lizzie and conkel :)

Temptations are luring throughout my building today...people have brought in all sorts of snacks / finger foods, and I am currently salivating to the wafting smell of meatballs simmering in some BBQ sauce............wow, my mouth is currently watering and my stomach is growling, this will be a true test of will power, that's for sure!!!

Dinner tonight is at the fancy restaurant where 7 of us have to try and spend $500! I am opting for the lobster...far fewer calories than just about anything else. I will pair that with a big salad at the salad bar, and probably call it good. My meal comes w/ 2 sides, which I either will just not order any or see if someone else wants to eat mine (mostly potato based sides). I should be ok though, just have to get past the dessert part!

So much for weighing myself once or twice a week. I am now finding myself doing it every 2 days now, but that's ok (so far) because I have been seeing results. I am down another .6 lbs in a couple days, so I can live with that :)

Well, I may have to close my office door, these smells are getting a little overwhelming!!!

Congrats on resisting the temptation at the pizza bar! Hopefully you are resisitng all the food in your office too!

I like how you are planning your meals in advance that could cause temptation...planning ont he lobster and salad is a good plan.

Have a great holiday!

Hey Logan,

You're doing so great! I lost 40lbs after the birth of my second baby and have kept it off for 16 years. You're doing it the right way. Diet and exercise. It took me a year and a half, but I did it the right way. Starting a healthy lifestyle is the best thing you can do for you and your future baby.

Having said that, some of your daily calories logs don't look like you're getting in the 1800 calories. You don't want to starve your body because then it begins to store fat. I also think you need to eat more veggies (green leafy). Also, you don't add the exercise calories back into your diet.

So if you need to eliminate 3500 calories to lose a pound it would be interesting to know how many calories you were taking in before you started your fitness journey. If you were taking in 3000 calories pre-program and now you're at 1800 and let's say you're getting in 200 calories a day of exercise. That's a 1400 calorie difference in your favor every day. That's about 9800 calories a week in your favor or just under a 3 pound weightloss per week. Your body will adapt, so you'll need to change it up after a month. I would try to add in a little more cardio and incorporate some weight training. Lean muscle increases eats calories.

Good Luck! Slow and steady wins the race!

Logan,
I can't send you a private response until I've been a member for 5 days. But I want to respond to your questions.

The body will adapt to your exercise if you do the same thing all the time. That's not such a big deal when your trying to maintain weight, but when you're trying to lose weight that can create plateau's. I always tell client's variety is the spice of life especially with exercise and food. You look like your doing ok on cardio, but you could change it up a bit by doing some interval training. I'm not much of a runner anymore but I try to walk a very fast pace and introduce a short burst of running, sprints, or jumping rope in with my walks. You only need to start with a minute of jogging, just make sure you continue to walk at a brisk pace. Example walk for 3 minutes, jog for one, walk for 3, jog for one, and so on. You could do the same kind of thing on your bike, short burst of intensity. When you start weight training you can do the same thing, after each set jump in place, side to side, jumping jacks, or anything else you can think of for 30 seconds or so. You'll raise you heart and burn tons more calories. I also encourage my clients to try different things all the time hiking, yoga, martial arts.

The same thing works with food. Change it up. Try new things. Less processed is better. I grew up in the south where at that time everything was fried. My taste buds were all out of whack. Once you start to wean yourself of the crap processed starts to taste weird. I cook using a ton of seasonings to help add flavor to my food. It just takes a while to adjust. Simplest way to start I think is to replace things like white rice with brown (cook it with onions and broth), potatoes with sweet potatoes (no butter), white bread with whole grains. Add fruit to oatmeal and cereal especially things like blueberries and pomagranates (so good right now). I grill onions in olive oil and roast peppers and add them on sandwiches, pasta, salads, almost everything. When you blend different lettuces together and add a little protein (chx, salmon) and some veggies with a CLEAR light salad dressing you can eat piles. Salad dressings are one of the biggest calorie offenders. People don't realize the bad stuff even in dressing labeled light.

Most of us have taste buds that are accustomed to sweet and salty. We don't start that way. You have to change that. Think of how beneficial it would be for your baby if you started their life with nutrient rich foods. Foods that would help it live a longer healthier life.

I could go on forever. Make me STOP! Check out my website webworkout101.com. I would love to give you a free trial. I just launched and I'm looking for before and afters. I feel such great energy from you and I think your head is in the right place.

Hello everyone! It's been a little while (about a week) since I've posted anything...been rather busy! A quick synopsis on where I'm at:

Over the last week, we have been out to eat 3 times and went to 4 family gatherings...talk about a tough time!! Overall, I believe I did very well..I limited my portions and kept the "junk" food down to a bare minimum. I didn't even get the chance to exercise much (walked/jogged a couple days, but that's about it).

At least the scale showed that I did OK during the ONE FULL WEEK of temptations and little exercise. I am only up .2 lbs from lowest weigh in yet, so that is promising nonetheless!

I am excited to be getting back on my normal routine of eating and exercising. I will be adding some new things in to my workout soon, and I feel a good surge of weight loss coming up! Hope to get back and posting everyday too.

Talk to you soon!

Glad to hear you had such a small gain over such a tempting week! Congrats! I love Thanksgiving, but it is nice to be able to settle back into my routine.

Yeah .2 pounds is nothing, I packed on a few more than that but today everything seems to have leveled out. Great work

What do you plan to change/add for your work outs?

Geez, I don't like being this busy, I am getting no time to post anything!!

I lost another pound after my last weigh-in after the holidays, so I am glad for that. Otherwise, I am still eating good (same stuff as my previous entries) and back to working out for an hour each night (after the Thanksgiving break).

Conkel, I've been mostly focused on cardio, but will begin to add in weight training. I wanted to get comfortable and on schedule w/ the daily workout routine before getting too carried away/burnt out, but I think it is about time. Well, time to head to lunch (same old salad, cottage cheese and veggies for me)!

Take care and hope to be able to post more (in your guys' threads soon).

Hello everyone!

Things haven't calmed down much, thus I haven't been posting very much! I guess if I had a huge change in food / exercise, I would find the time to come and vent, but I've been very good foodwise. My birthday was Saturday and didn't do anything too extravagant. I did go to the OU vs MU game Saturday night, and that ended up going the way I wanted it to! (I am anti Mizzou) :)

I am down 14.2 lbs in the month I've been on my "lifestyle" change and I can say it hasn't been that hard at all. I have a lot of distractions, food wise, but my willpower is stronger than ever and have learned to say NO to mostly everything that I shouldn't eat. If I do give in a little, it is only A LITTLE! 2 bites of cake, or a bite of a cheeseburger, and that's it! Enough to fulfill my taste buds but not enough to fill the gut!

Overall, I'm feeling very good. Starting to get compliments of "are you losing weight"? So that always feels good!

Well, back to work, have a good day!

You're doing great. Once I started getting compliments it was hard to stop me from losing weight, it feels so good when other people start noticing, I'm sure it's the same with you.

Keep it up, 14 pounds for the month is amazing!

Thanks Jared, I'll be there sooner or later!! :)

I have still been eating good, but haven't been exercising much the last few days. I did do a little weight lifting at my house yesterday, but didn't get too carried away. But somehow I managed to lose 2 lbs since I last weighed 3 days ago..so I'm down with that!!

Will be working out this evening and getting back on the routine. My wife and I went through our closet last night, and I had some clothes that are still a little too small for me to wear right now, but I told her to not put them too far away, because I will be able to wear those in the very near future! I was able to throw out some old shirts, that were from my "prime days", that I will never be wearing again :)

Well, gotta get outta here, take care!

Oh yeah, today is my one month anniversary on this site!! YA!! And it also marks my 5 week mark that I began my new lifestyle change :) :) :)

Thanks again to everyone and their gracious support!!

Happy monthaversary!
And well done 16 pounds in 5 weeks is awesome! You have done such great work and you have learned so much, so I don't see how you won't be able to do this no problem!

Have a great day, Camy

Where are you Logan? Working out and eating right I'm guessing.

Good attitude with keeping the tighter clothes close, before you know it they'll be loose on you

Hey man, I'm here! I've been crazy busy at work and at home lately, so the posting has still been minimal. If I can make it through this week, the plan is to be posting again everyday, as I THINK things will begin to calm down soon..

Anyway, yep, still eating good and working out. I'm about to kick up my cardio a little bit more now, as I can tell my routine I've been on isn't as effective as it was at the beginning. Just hope to run more and hit the weights.

I've got a family Christmas dinner on Saturday, where there is A LOT of food available, and the main course is steak fondue. So, I plan on just portioning off my meal ahead of time, instead of eating a few things here and there. Shouldn't be too big of a deal though..I've trained myself quite well over the last 1.5 months, to where temptations don't really bother me.

Well, talk to you soon!

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!!

I ate pretty well...not perfect by any means (too many sweets lying around!!) Numbers wise, I have basically been maintaining, as I have not been exercising much the last 4-5 days, but that'll be changing soon. I've been prepping myself for a new program, and it's going to start Jan. 01.

A friend and I (although he is 2 wks ahead of me) are going to do the P90X workout challenge. He has done it once before and had amazing results, but had a death in the family that stressed himself back to his original weight, etc. I am very excited to begin it and know it is going to be hardcore, but I am ready! I ordered some equipment needed for the program, and the last of it will be delivered on Monday. I am reading the manual on it now, and will be doing the pre-test to get my numbers to see how much they will change at the end of the program.

Well, I am tearing apart parts of my kitchen floor and laying new tile down this weekend, so I will be posting a lot starting Jan. 01!

As always, take care!

Good morning everyone, just a quick ticker update. Dropped it 2 lbs which puts me right around 20 lbs total thus far, I can live w/ that :)

Looking forward to a couple more days when I die attempting to do the P90X workout...haha!

Ahhhhhh.....day 1 of the P90X workout is in the books! I find it a little more tough to type this message out as my back and shoulders are feeling a little weird today :)

That work out flat out kicked my butt; but I was able to get "my" reps in (not keeping up with them...yet). I see this doing very good things for me. The first workout was chest and back (about an hour) followed by ab-ripper X (15 mins). Today will be plyometrics. I invested in some resistant bands (not wanting to pay big bucks for dumbbells) and a pull-up bar. I should be able to do all of the workouts they do with the aforementioned equipment. It helps that they have one guy on the video that uses only bands too, so you can see the proper form for every exercise.

I see big results coming over the next 90 days and probably much sooner. This workout is going to work muscles I didn't even know existed!

Food wise I have been doing pretty good, although I have been to quite a few "big" dinners lately w/ the family, but other than that just sticking to my guns.

Will keep everyone posted on my workout routine...have a good day!
