Little Pouch (Lower Abs)

Hi...I just have a question about working out the lower abs. Now, I know that getting rid of body fat is important for having a flat and fit stomach and I do my cardio workout 3x a week. I also do the necessary crunches as well. My stomach is somewhat flat except for the little pouch on the bottom (it is smaller than before) but I really can't seem to get rid of it completely. What should I do?

You might want to try some type of leg raises. They tend to work the lower abs (as well as some other muscles in the top of your thigh). You can do them lying on the floor, on a bench with your legs hanging off the end or hanging from a chinning bar. You might also want to try bicycles. Those are done lying on the floor like a crunch. You start with your legs out straight and your feet a couple of inches off the floor, then curl up and bring one knee up to touch the opposite elbow. Next rep bring the other knee up. One study I read found bicycles to be the most effective ab exercise.

you might try exercise biking on an stationary bike, go six miles a day and try to make it as fast as you can, you will burn any unwanted fat in no time
I hope this helps you

Typically the problem is we store more fat in the lower abdomen then the upper.

I don't want to get into upper/lower abs debate. Do you have exercises for upper and lower biceps?

Your trying to say that bicycling will get rid of any fat? Not many people can do 6 miles a day.

anyone can do six miles a day if they pace themselves. you can definately go six miles an hour for sixty minutes, it's not that fast at all. In fact I guarantee you can do faster and I don't even know what your bodytype is.

I say go for it, you'll thank yourself.

6 miles/day on a bike? that's nothing. A jog is about a 15min/mile ... on a bike, you should be able to do that in about 30-40 minutes. I do 5 miles in 45 minutes on an eliptical trainer (easier than actual running), and running is definately not my forte

I usually do a cardio burn on a stationary bike. When I started, I set it for level 7 out of 20 and rode for 20 minutes at a very fast pace almost as hard as I could. I rode 7.25 miles. Since then I just raise the difficulty up a step after I feel like I don't get much from my current setting. I have also been weight training. I can see a difference in mass of the muscle groups I am working and I think I can tell a difference in fatty areas. I have actually gained a couple of pounds but I know I have lost fat and gained muscle which weighs more. If anyone is curious....6ft 200lbs. well sculpted just extra layers of skin and fat due to healthy college experience.

My diet is ok. I try to keep the daily calories below 2000, about 1500-1800, and stay away from junk food, simple carbs, and sugar other than fruits. And of course stay away from beer/alcohol.

Let's clear some things up a bit...

To lose that last little bit of fat you cannot just do abdominal exercises... You can't smash the fat away... You must do cardio work out along with some form of weight lifting... To lose weight try doing interval training...

The fat that is stored in your little "pouch" is the first place fat gets stored when you eat... so that means it's also the last place it gets used... That's why it's so hard to lose that little bit... Now if you do interval training along with weight lifting (I suggest Functional Training) you could increase your fat burning because muscle can use fat as energy....

Then there's the whole diet aspect which I'm not going to touch because if you're an moderately active person you'll require more calories, etc, etc....

And if you want to work your abdominal muscles remember.. there are 4 adbdominal muscles and each one as to be worked a special way especially the transverse.

But I've cover the very basics so if anyone wants more info, feel free to message me... I got articles up the "ying yang" that I would be more than happy to share...

G'Luck
