Little John's trying again. And again. Aaaand again.

Thanks folks, yesterday was easier - the brownies were covered and the pizza was gone, and since it was warmish out, I got into my garage and cleaned it a little bit instead of waiting for dinner. Dinner was scrambled eggs with cheese and 2 tablespoons of milled flax seed - which is about 1 tbsp. too much, but now I know.

Had a good workout, which was surprising after skipping lifting last week.

Best news of all was my Wednesday weigh-in - 326.6 lbs (down 7.6 lbs), 30.7% BF (down by 0.6%), and 48.38" belly (sucked in, that's down 1.25" from last week). Hate low-carbing, but I love the results!

Party time! Keep doing what you're doing, LJ. I'm enjoying the frequent updates and positive attitude. Let's keep that up, alright??

Thanks - keeping the positive attitude is all that much better with support from my fan club!

Did my 10K last night in two 5K sessions. The first one was a great pace: 2:13.4 min/500min, but the second was a bit slower, and I needed to power up the last 1000 m to get my average speed up to the 2:15.3 goal. All told, it was just shy of 45 minutes, and I burned 600 calories.

Food-wise, all was well until I was done rowing, and I had a brownie and a small glass of whole milk. Hardly a major lapse, but still running over my carb and sugar goals. Not beating myself up over it, just being honest!

Did have some fun yesterday with the kids, the three of us went outside - my son and daughter made "mud soup" with an accompaniment of slush. They were using a 5 gallon bucket as their kettle, so I fabbed up a stirring paddle from scrap lumber (left-over from the play table build, appropriately enough), and was an instant hero.

Ooo you´re a lucky dad! I grew up on a farm and my sisters and I weren´t satisfied with mere mud. We incorporated all the gross things we could find, plus a lot of herbs and let our witch soup cook in the sun for days... But I would have been thrilled if my dad had played along! (He did take time for us as often as he could by the way, he just didn´t play the games we would otherwise have played.)

Thanks all - can't say all my time with the kids is good, feeling kind of guilty about being kind of a jerk yesterday to them. There's a lot of construction in my office area, so I spent the all day yesterday hearing loud hammering. It just wore down my every nerve. And I usually get home during the kids' witching hour - complimented by my niece's eardrum-shattering scream whenever anything frustrates her. So, yeah, I was kind of a mean Dad.

But enough of that happiness, healthwise yesterday was good. My workout of lifting and interval rowing both exceeded expectations in terms of performance. It's a pretty good feeling to have to bump the weights up because they're too light.

Foodwise, also, went well. Well under calories. I went above the carb and sugar target, but that was a result of vegetables, not junk food, so I'm OK with that. Found a good easy recipe for low-carb pasta sauce that turned out really good (posted below), and had it over a couple sausages and a bunch of roast peppers and onions. Also what I'm having for lunch today!

This weekend: I get Saturday off of being Dad, courtesy of my awesome wife. Not sure what I'll be doing, especially since trips to the local breweries and burger joints are out. Maybe I'll grab a sashimi lunch somewhere or maybe BBQ, otherwise, I have some garage things I want to do.

Easy Keto Marinara (taken from here: )
Ingredients
28 oz peeled San Marzano tomatoes (no sugar added)*
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried parsley
1 tsp salt (add more if necessary)**
2 Tbsp red wine vinegar
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

Instructions
Puree the tomatoes in a small blender or magic bullet*. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Taste and adjust salt if necessary.

*What I had on hand was crushed regular tomatoes, so I didn't need to puree. I'll do it again with crushed San Marzano.

**1 tsp was probably twice as much salt as you really need. For this batch, I added a 10oz can of tomato paste and a cup of water. Next time I'll use half as much salt and skip the paste and water.

Everyone gets frustrated sometimes. Kids forget pretty quick!
That's awesome that you could increase your weights!
Great job on calories!

Thanks MR, they do forget, with some really odd exceptions!

Weekend started with good intentions: Friday was a 10K row followed by dinner out with the kids at "Lucky Taco", a food truck that expanded into a new restaurant with supposedly good tacos and an awesome beer selection. I had neither - I had a salad and diet coke, and a few of my kids' tater tots.

Saturday was "Dad's Day Off", where I had broccoli and eggs scrambled. Sashimi for lunch, and a run to Home Depot. Things then went downhill as I stopped at DQ on the way home. And I came back home to a sick daughter, so Dad's Day gets put on the shelf. Dinner was two bowls of corn flakes and a bunch of ginger snaps. And a Palate Mallet Double IPA. I did get my row in to meet the weekly goal for rowing, but skipped Saturday's lift.

Yesterday was better, I stuck sorta to low-carbing it - certainly better than Saturday, and made up for my lack of lift - so I lifted and then rowed 10K. I felt like I paid back some of my Saturday Sins.

Blood work on Wednesday, and a Dr. Appt on Thursday to follow up from a November physical. I'm really curious to see what my cholesterol looks like after weeks of meat & cheese, and vigorous exercise.

Great job on the 10k rows! Sorry you daughter was sick and it threw your day off.
Hope things look great at your doctors appointment.

I think you did pretty okay on the weekend, or at least you did better on the calorie front than me. I'd call that a moderate success, particularly since you definitely exercised as much as you should.

If my experience is any indication, I'd be surprised if your cholesterol was any worse after dropping some weight and exercising more. And I wouldn't be at all surprised if it improved. I ate an absolute ton of bacon and eggs and cheese during my long weight loss phase and at my last test the doctor referred to my cholesterol as "admirable."

All and all you get the MrVee seal of approval for the weekend. Enjoy this high honor.

Getting caught up here. Great job on the weight loss. Such a great feeling seeing that number get smaller and smaller and to just see the hard work is paying off. With your low carbing, do you cound your calories every day? I've always hated calorie counting, but think maybe I should start up again considering my stall. Ugh!

As for your "mean dad" day. Honestly, I'm not very good with kids. They're cute for about 10 minutes, but then the noise and commotion just really wears on me so I can't completely understand being on edge. "These days" happen. The kids know you love them so all should be just fine. :) I hope your daughter is feeling better.

Thanks Mystic, added bonus to the 10K is that my rowing speed is slowly improving (trying to keep my heart rate between 150-160 bpm)

Thanks for the Seal of Approval, Vee!

Mandy, kids are the greatest and worst thing in my life! I'm exaggerating the second part, but you get the idea. And it is definitely nice to see the change, I only wish I'd pushed myself down the slide earlier!

Yesterday was back onto LCHF, it was kind of tough, to be honest. The fridge needed to be restocked, so there weren't a lot of snacking options, but I had some cheese and celery as a snack, and a big greek salad for dinner. I had a stressful evening after dinner, though, and ran to the gingersnaps and milk. Sigh... It's not like I could just have 2 of them, either.

No exercise yesterday, it was a rest day.

Unofficial weigh-in this morning looks like I may have a gain, but my belt's a bit looser, and I didn't have the most satisfying poop, so I think I should be down on the other two measurements (gut and fat %), even if my weight is up tomorrow morning.

Looking to change up my lifting regime in a couple weeks. Similar to the current one, but rather than doing a circuit 3 days a week, I'll be focusing on zones. Alternating weeks to do heavy weights (5 sets of 5 reps) and light weights (3 sets of 15-20 reps). BB = Barbell, DB = Dumbell, TG = Total Gym

Tuesday
Pushups (slow-motion for strength, regular speed for endurance)
BB Military
DB Flyes
Seated BB Tri Extension
10X Interval Rows: 20s High Intensity, 40s Med Intensity

Thursday
TG Pullups
EZ Curls
BB Deadlift
Twisted Decline Ab Crunch (5 per side)
2X Interval Rows: 30s Balls-out Intensity, 5 min Med intensity

Saturday
One Legged Squat (or Hack Squat???)
Calf Raise (one-legged for strength, two-legged for endurance)
Seated Leg Extension
Plank (4X20s for endur, 2X30s for strength)
30 minutes lazy row

Liking the routine change. Demanding and making the body adjust to something different. Planking is very underrated, kudos to you for implementing that in there. You're doing quite well. Gaining isn't such a bad thing, probably just the lean muscles growing. The main thing is that belt is a little more loose than it was before! Congrats on the success to far. You keep it up.

:D Liking the poop update, people are generally too embarassed to mention it but good pooping is amazing quality of life!

I'll second LaMa's comment! I've never been a fan of the 'girls don't poop' mentality. Be proud of the good ones, I say!

I know what you mean about the poops! I don't poop in the mornings before work and I always wonder how much more it would say that I had lost if I had had a nice poop!

Your new routine looks great!

Appreciate the compliments on the new routine. The problem with them is I always get too excited to try them out, and I lose interest in the old. This time around is no exception, but I want to finish out the next 2 1/2 weeks.

Ladies, I've been married for 7+ years. Not a long stretch, but long enough to know the horrid truth that you don't poop rose petals!

As predicted, my weight was up this morning from last week from 326.6 to 329.2. BUUUUT, my sucked-in gut went from 48.375 to 48.250, and fat from 30.7 to 30.5.

I skipped breakfast yesterday and only had a salad for lunch. Corned beef and cabbage for dinner, because no one eats that in Ireland. First and last time having that one, blech. After that meal I was only at 850 calories for the entire day, I had to supplement with cheese and salami, and still came in over a thousand calories under goal for the day after my work out. What a weird feeling, I wasn't even that hungry. Not the case today, though!
