Little John's trying again. And again. Aaaand again.

Crappy weekend, health-wise. Plenty of excuses, no good reasons. Saturday was all about the family, and a day of high-energy kids with high-swinging emotions can cuz a man to do bad things. I suppose that too many peanuts and chocolate isn't too bad on the grand scale of bad things, but it was enough to suck the drive out of me. Sunday wasn't much better - less stressful, but still too busy to get a breather in for some kind of activity.

Anyway, no point in being too harsh. I'm also going to change up my exercise for the next couple weeks and cut out most lifting and just row. I don't like my current regime, so I'll be spending time developing a new one.

Sorry this weekend wasn't great lovely--It must be hard trying to do this AND having little ones to worry about. Are your kids quite young? Family time is important but it's a shame it can be at the expense of your own goals. Guess that's what family is though--putting them before you! And that makes you an awesome family man, don't beat yourself up xo

New regime will be fun! Keep us updated xo

It was a bad weekend...it happens. My kids have thrown me off track more times than I count. I hope this week is good for you! :)

I did have fun, with the exception of the end of Saturday, don't get me wrong, I was just using food as a go-to to take micro-vacations. I should have just run to the garage and put a tool away - I'd have a much cleaner garage and gotten a nice leg workout from the multiple stairs runs!

Sun, my kids are 4 (Cora) and 1 (Henry, aka Hank the Tank, aka Happy Henry, aka Cranky Hanky). They're really pretty awesome most of the time, but I need my escapes and a full day of them is mentally exhausting - I think yesterday was mainly about recovery.

Hi LJ,

I have been thinking a lot lately about how people, stress and frustration seem to be my biggest problem. We have some similar traits and I think that food has become my ‘go to mini vacation’ as well.

Do you think that when the need to re-charge ‘introvert style’ is not available that we kind of for lack of a better way to say it ‘lash out’ and eat? Sorry…not trying to make things more complicated then they are, but I really do need to understand this!

Hope you had a better day!

I think you have a valid point there JadeLynn, though extraverts may see things differently. And LJ´s solution of running to put a tool away each time he needed a mini-vacation sounds like a nice alternative ;)

Been gone a couple days, I haven't been really good. I took on a woodworking project to make a Christmas gift for my kids (an activity table), and it's proving to be very, very time-consuming and quite exhausting. As a result, I haven't been exercising other than walking around the garage looking for the G.D. tape measure, and my diet choices, while not atrocious, haven't been the best. So I made the executive decision to go into maintenance mode until 2015, where I can get moving again on the journey. I'll still check in to confess and/or vent, but not as frequently (I'm also fairly busy at work, so I won't be here too much).

Sounds like a smart idea when demands for your time and energy are so high. Have fun but enjoy moderation!

I think consciously making that kind of decision when you know you are going to be busy and stressed is a great idea. That way you remain in control of what is going on as opposed to letting the situation control you. Then it seems like it is easier to get overwhelmed and say to heck with it all and go on a big binge.

Good luck with your project and work!

Thanks for the support folks. I've been around 330 since hitting the pause button. Hoping to get some control back in the next two weeks (I'm done with work today until Jan 5th), we'll see.

My woodworking project is taking a LOT longer than planned. All the wood is cut, and I'm working through the sanding when I can, but I won't be done in time for Xmas. So Santa will be delivering a few days late with a note saying that he delivered it to another Henry in Australia and didn't realize his mistake until then.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Hey LJ!! I hope you finally got that activity table finished! Back to work, back to the routine... Looking forward to having you back with us :)

Hi folks, time to get back on track. Holidays were, as predicted, insane. If I had a spare minute, it was spent working on that stupid activity table, and it's still not done! It was my first project that involved making something pretty, and I didn't take into account how much time would be spent on things like measuring, sanding, lining-up.

Anyway, I have a new regime, new sneakers, new lifting gloves, and new activity watch (Garmin VivoFit) for the new year. I want to build up endurance since I can't hold my son for more than a couple minutes without my arms aching, so I did some research and developed a new plan that breaks down as:
  • Monday: Stretch(rest)
  • Tues: Lift (5 reps, 5 sets - Squat, Bench Press, Rows, Militaries) and HIIT rowing (20x 10s high, 20s medium)
  • Weds: Row 2x 22min
  • Thur: Lift (5 reps, 5 sets - Curls, Triceps extensions, Deadlift, Situps) and interval rowing (2x 30s high, 6m medium), Stretch
  • Fri: Row 4x 10min
  • Sat: Lift (5 reps, 5 sets - One-legged Squat, Pushups, Rows, Twisted Crunches) and 30 minute low-intensity row.
  • Sun: Row 3x 14min

Gained 7 lbs over the break, not too bad, should be eliminated quickly enough. I'll be checking your diaries over the course of the day.

Happy New Year!

Good to have you back! Making good stuff always takes twice as long as planned, but you´ll do it.

Seems a lot of us got an activity watch this Christmas! I'm sporting the Vivosmart myself.

That's amazing you are doing something so dedicated and time consuming for your kids! Good luck on your new regime!
