Lifting Woah light headed?

Lifting weights today, everything going good, then BAM!! Light headed to the point I need to sit down or IM going to pass out. Ate a good breakfast. had plenty of water before hand and while lifting so I dont think its a dehydration issue. Any ideas what this could be. it happens alot when getting up to me. If I am on the ground or sitting and I get up quickly my vision blurs and I get light headed for a few seconds then I am fine again. Its almost kind of scary. I would reather not go for a checkup because I dont have any insurance right now(long story) but I dont really want to pay out of the pocket for a doctor visit. did anyone ever hear of this before? possibly not enough carbohydrates? I am not on a low carb diet or anything, but I do watch what I eat. I usually eat a high carb meal about 45min to an hour before I lift but today I ate about 2-3 hours before thats why I was thinking maybe thats it. After sitting down and drinking a protien shake I am feeling much better

actually about 2 years ago I was at work and I got off on my break and I was grabbing something to eat when I got light headed like this and completely blackout out. like I could still hear everything going on around me, but I couldnt see at all. it was just black and I got really hot and I sat down and put my head down on a table for like 2 min before my vision came back and I started cooling down. This is really scary to have happen. it happened one other time back in grade school on the way to lunch one day I blacked out like this. its not a common thing. but seems every few years? but I def do get a little dizzy when going from sitting to standing.

I don't think this has anything to do with carbs. But perhaps you answered your own question in the last sentence to your first post...

well it seems the problem comes down to eating. I believe that because I ate so long before I lifted that I had already used up my stores and put myself in a deficit. I remember clearly now the 2 other times I blacked out I didnt eat all day either time before it happened. And like I dont get light headed all the time when I stand up quick. more when Im lifting and it seems like thats got somthing to do with it. Soo anyways I am going to make sure I eat 45 min before I lift anymore with a carb rich meal and see what happens. I started feeling better after my shake. but that was loaded with protien and carbs and all that good stuff. so I think thats my whole problem

Hola.

That aside, you've described classic signs of dehydration. Your body can never have too much water.

NewGen, Funny you posted this. A couple weeks ago I was chatting with this guy at my gym and he was bragging about the low carb high protien diet he was on. Well...he passed out right into my arms. Fortunately I was there and was able to catch him because he was heading for the weight rack.

I got someone at the gym to get him a Gatorade (rehydrate and sugars) and he got right back up. It was probably less to do with the sugar than the hydration levels...but the sugar was able to get him some quick energy to get back up.

Bottom line...Becareful with those low to no-carb diets...they have there place, but carbs provide you body with the essential energy to work out. If your body is using more energy than is available...it will shut down.

Just my $.02

Right, I am not on a low carb diet of any sorts though. I eat plenty. It was just that I am very active throughout the day and I hadnt eaten since a few hours before. and also I just came down with a pretty nasty cold. so this may have something to do with it as I have zero energy whatsoever right now because of it. So I will just rest this one out and hopefull get back strong as ever on monday

It happened to me once at the gym, doing a machine that works my butt. I was doing alot of pressure to my chest and when I got off the machine for the 30 second rest, I felt like I was gonna faint. I got really scared... What I did was take a break, went to the locker room, lie down in the bench a while, then got back up and finished the workout. When I went to the gym, I usually ate at 12pm, then at 3.15pm i went to the gym to workout, and I never had any faint problems... Maybe its because I always kept myself hydrated.

Oblivion...in your case it may have been breathing that caused you to feel that way. Realy focus on breathing while exercising...it is one of the most important things you need to focus on. Most people when starting out hold their breathe when exerting stress...bad...BAD idea.

If you were breathing properly, hydrated yourself, and ate well and you still get faint...a doctor visit may be called for. If it was a one time thing..I personally wouldn't worry about it...but I have done some very stupid things before. I am just being honest.
