Lift, Train, Fitness

unfortunately it is a problem that a lot of people with disabilities face, if your not the perceived normal then all sorts of crap happens because your not like them, eg for my son one of the complaints was that he is "too strong" which intimidates other players and he might hurt them, which relates to him with ball in hand making a blocking play at home plate (He is a catcher) to get a runner out but the runner deliberately slid feet first with his legs locked straight, into my son who was stationary and not breaking any rules. but it was somehow my sons fault the runner hurt himself ??? yet last season it was ok for a catcher (against the rules) to forcefully tag my son in the head knocking him unconscious and he still has memory problems

EXACTLY!!! So similar to my Sis.
Yet, it's okay to be as strong/forceful as possible in football???? We have lost 8 Texan Boys this year(summer practice thru now) in HS football!!! One poor family had to take their son off life support last week.. (2 of the boys were lost in heat of summer re: after school practice in triple digit heat.)

I could rant about these issues including our loved ones forever.... It just broke her heart when she was kicked off the team. Especially since it took so long to convince our parents to allow her to play due to CAH! Broken Bones can put them in shock/comas, but you can't lock them in a bubble either... They were the most at risk at birth thru 8 years old.
They were always in Children's Medical Center at Death's Door back then.. They would get a virus and almost die. Spent many a Christmas at the hospital.

Sometimes you just have to take a chance but it can be soooo much worse when it goes wrong.

Bringing this back to fitness, one day I would like to have enough funds to open a hardcore lifting gym which is disability friendly. Most gyms and fitness centres are not good places for those with disabilities to train. In fact I have never seen a commercial gym with the ability to cope with blind or wheelchair bound people, and the loud music is often a trigger for those with sensory problems.

Interesting Low Carb Study of ultra endurance runners

http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0026049515003340

showing increased rates of fat oxidation during run for LC athletes compared to carb athletes but both groups had same levels of muscle glycogen both pre run and recovery.

It has been 2 weeks without a slip of with ZC way of eating, down 6 kg (some was water weight from when I got of track during high stress) Had to force myself to eat some steak last night, appetite is gone, strength levels are good (unloading bags of stock feed from the car 1 handed), endurance is good (day 13 squat challenge)

even had hubby eating a bag of favourite sweets in front of me and saying Nom Nom Nom was not even tempting

energy levels are back up

full training starts back at the gym again next week following the post competition break

What a great idea Tru re the gym! Awesome loss- 6kg in 2 weeks? I have been doing squats the last few days, spurred on by your challenge, while not actively participating. I am in the beginner/"getting on a bit" category, but checked out your link to make sure I was doing them correctly. Thanks for all your helpful info.

some of that weight was water weight from all the stress lately but the scales dropped consistently even through shark week, Just shows what can be done when you can get consistency on track.

Blood pressure check this morning

Great job, you are better at fending off candy then I am, I am about to toss the kiddo's whole bag in the trash because I keep eyeing it.

been a while since I have had time to post in my diary, although I have been able to some reading of others.

Tonight is middle sons high school graduation, will post more when I have time, as I have been working hard on my blogs, trying to get enough content written up, as new blogs are hard to promote.

Powerlifting Blog

I was coaching again this morning before it got hot, I am closing in on achieving all of my coaching hours for NCAS.

Most of today I have been working on writing articles, current one I am working on is an article about the benefits of board presses for building a bigger bench press while minimising shoulder strain and building bigger triceps for those who are not interested in the pure strength aspect of training. For the ladies this means better looking arms (getting rid of bingo wings).

I am still known as the Tricep Queen at the gym lol

But to finish the article I still have to take some photos at the gym as stock photography just doesn't have that sort of specialised photo.

Speaking of photos, I have just ordered a light tent so I can get back into a bit of macro photography, with the side benefit of being able to take better pics for my blog.

will post again later when I am not sweltering in 35° heat

Good morning triceps queen. 35o heat? I am glad the weather is cooler down here. 25oC is hot & you get sunburned very easily in Tas.I know I should get back to doing some more triceps work to try to get rid of my granny, batwings, but now that I'm fully qualified(as a granny) I don't seem to care as much about them any more. I do admire you for being so dedicated & committed though & I love that you are happy to share your knowledge with everyone. Cheers, Cate

Read this article today, and it sounds promising for the prevention of concussion in sport

https://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/news/fullstory_155834.html

as it is part of my job to deal with athletes suffering from concussion, anything that can even partially prevent it would be great. Concussion can leave you with life long debilitating effects, and it hard to convince athletes that the need to leave the field to see a doctor before returning to play, because they think it is just a little bit of headache.

I have only ever been knocked unconscious once but my memory has never been the same since. I have sat by my sons side in hospital while he could not hold anything in his head for more than 2 minute after being knocked out playing sport, I have seen the brain scans of injured players who despite never loosing conciousness had permanent damage.

Elite level sport is not healthy, so unless your skilled enough to be vying to represent your country or getting paid the big bucks, play it safe and participate in moderation, don't push past your limits.

The term "brain slosh" is bloody scary. It makes me shudder! Great article Tru. Thanks for sharing once again. I wasn't allowed to rep you. Cheers, Cate

This morning I was out taking some stock photographs at the beach and from on top of the sand blow, missed magic hour but got a couple of good shots from inside the world heritage area. slogging your way across deep, steep, soft sand with a pack full of camera gear is one hell of a workout.

need to get out of bed earlier next time

the beach stretching away from the top of the cliff, leads to Fraser Island and to sunrise pic is showing Double Island Point. Also could not get a good pic of the rainbow sand cliffs because the tide was in and needed to be there earlier to get the sunrise hitting the cliffs to really bring out the coloured sands.
