Lift, Train, Fitness

spent a fair bit of time on the computer yesterday, completing two more of my units in the FIFA medical diploma I am working on, the first was the unit on eating disorders and the other unit I finished off was ACL injuries.

10 out of 42 units complete lol

Getting ready for AD&D this arvo/evening, introducing 3 new players, one of which is bubs godmother.

I don't drink very often, but hubby is designated driver, last time I had alcohol was before getting prego with bub who is 1 1/2 and keto make alcohol tolerance very much lower so could be an interesting evening, bring on the mead, games, and good company.

A year and a half already? I must be sleeping my life away! Sounds like you´ll have a fun evening - I´m sure I don´t have to remind you to drink enough water but I´m going to do so anyway :p

had a fun evening, did not overdo the alcohol (2 mugs of mead and 2 glasses of wine in 5 hours), being blind drunk in not needed to have fun. now back to keto, mead is far from my usual macros

It gives me the shits when people place soooo much emphasis on BMI

BMI is a BULLSHIT number for fucks sake.

I know that I have to reference it often enough on the forum because of how so many new members will only tell you their BMI and not any other relevant data.

If I was to post my BMI without any other information there would be all sorts of false assumptions made, It won't work as an experiment very well here on my diary but lets see ?

What assumptions would you make if somebody posted their BMI as 40 ?

What about a 28 BMI ?

I know you´re right: BMI is meant for population statistics, not individual health decisions. But I still feel better for having an officially healthy BMI again...

That's fair and not a problem, the problem is the belief that anything outside of a supposedly normal BMI is unhealthy and anybody with a normal BMI has healthy levels of fat.

in 2016 Researchers found that 54 million Americans had been classed as overweight or obese, but cardiometabolic measures showed they were healthy. Another 21 million were classed as "normal" in terms of BMI, but they were unhealthy.

A bit more scientific data regarding BMI

A 2008 study in the International Journal of Obesity found that BMI underestimates the prevalence of obesity when you define it, as the World Health Organization does, as a body-fat percentage over 25 in men and 35 in women. Fifty percent of the people with a BMI in the normal or overweight ranges are actually obese.

Today is a busy day, I need to work on more units for medical diploma, bub is teething again and my appointment for shoulder injection has been brought forward, so I shouldn't be using it over the weekend while the injection takes effect. So no training sessions this weekend.

I also need to do some more photo editing for a few photos from the MMA grading photo shoot. Action shots are difficult in a semi dark room while making sure not to get flash in they eyes of those fighting.

Yeah, that makes sense about the BMI. I think I'm right on the borderline for being overweight with a 25 BMI (I'm not really sure about the number, but it was something like that). I admit that I could lose a few pounds, but it doesn't account for body type at all, right? Just height and weight, or is that a different thing? Anyway, I tend to do poorly in BMI so I'm all in on the down-with-BMI movement.

I am proud of my youngest son, this is him assisting with the gradings on Friday both as a judge, sparring partner and crash test dummy. Unlike many he has no interest in climbing belts, as far as he is concerned the belt only tells you which order to stand in line. getting his technique, power and discipline right is more important. This attitude should apply to so much of life in general for everybody, especially weight loss.

Sounds like a very healthy attitude indeed. Wish more folks had it.
I like the body-fat way of determining obesity. It makes a lot more sense. The problem with using it on a large scale is that as far as I know all cheap, low-tech ways of determining body fat are imprecise for anything other than progression over time of a single individual. Which is why bmi is attractive for research. But it should still be dumped completely for individual use. Some day I'll shell out the money for a body composition assessment and find out how it compares to the body fat number on my scale...

Higher functioning Autistics can set a great example for Neurotypicals. Having intense focus is not a bad trait to have, neither is the tendency to follow instructions without deviation.

Shoulder is numb from injection, not looking forward to anesthetic wearing off.

Cortisone is on the WADA prohibited list but only in competition, which means the duration of the competition and the preceding 12 hours. Outside of competition use it is acceptable to have.

He has a cool moustache.

My body fat was measured while I was away and it said I was 32%. My scales at home say I am 40%. Big difference there. So I have to go on BMI and also waist circumference also. Still a long way to go.
