Lift, Train, Fitness

I should also note that the body measurements today confirmed I am the perfect proportions for powerlifting lol, which is just about the opposite of most popular mainstream sports lol especially those that involve running and my flexibility is dreadful with a -1 (0 is like touching your toes with straight legs and foot at 90 degrees) on the sit and reach test :rotflmao:good thing PL doesn't need much but it could have been worse, my partner for measurements struggled to reach the measurement slider on the same test.

this all goes towards an assessment on talent identification.

I could see some of your classmates hating your guts for being older than them, female, and awesome at what you do. And it´ll do them a lot of good :)

I am old enough now to not care what most other people think lol, a lifetime of being different tends to harden you up a bit.

Today’s target is 189 push-ups. People living with a severe mental illness are also at much higher risk for lots of physical diseases, including obesity, lung disease, heart disease, and stroke. In fact, one study in the UK estimated that people living with severe mental ill health are 189% more likely to have a stroke. Why? Probably a number of factors, including the side effects of medications used to treat mental illness, higher rates of cigarette smoking, and the social isolation and stigma that can accompany mental illness. In Australia, this has contributed to a life expectancy gap of between 14-23 years of those living with severe mental illness and those without

I have said this a fair bit to people but I do struggle to put thing in words sometimes so this is from another lifters blog, it aplies equally as well to weight loss as it does to lifting

Stop believing, listening, and trying all the bullshit out there.
We are in an amazing era of access to so much incredible knowledge, but if we are not able to weed through the bullshit that comes with it, then what good is it? This ability starts with realizing there are no secret supplements, no secret exercises, no secret piece of equipment.

Stop believing there is a bullshit miracle out there, and you will find it’s pretty easy to see quality information over crap. Just because someone has a shit ton of likes or followers does not mean they are knowledgeable about strength or that they can make you strong. All it means is that they are really good at marketing themselves. The same thing goes with the Joe Buff trainer in the gym. Just because they look good does not make them strong.

and more importantly NO weight loss secrets outside of hard work and consistency.

Today’s target is 216 push-ups. Two hundred and sixteen is the number of studies published in scientific journals between 2013-2015 that investigated the benefits of mindfulness. Mindfulness is not new- techniques we call mindfulness have been practiced by followers of Buddhism for centuries. However, the incorporation of mindfulness into Western medicine has taken place very recently: in 2004-2006 only 11 studies looking at mindfulness were published.

some of today's push-ups will again be done in a lab after my lecture today. Today is functional movement screening, including Trunk Stability Push-up.

Back from uni, stability and mobility testing was interesting, I need to find tests subjects now so I can get the testing procedure for each test embedded in my little brain for the final exam at the end of semester (practical exam). I will have to build makeshift equipment to practice testing with as I am not sure I have the budget to get the proper toolkit.

as far as doing the tests myself, I had a couple of fails on exercises involving shoulder mobility but this is to be expected considering this is what I am doing rehab for. Aced the other tests and the trunk stability push-up test was done in the female hand position easy, then I swapped to the male hand position (thumbs placed inline with forehead) and again found it easy. Doing so many push-ups this month had to have some benefit :)

Hi Tru,

I’ve not spent much time reading your diary unfortunately but I’ve just had a skim through the last few pages and I am very impressed. I e always been in awe of power lifters. Unfortunately because most of my joints have had new bits screwed in or old bits sewn back together I’ll never be able to really try it myself.

It’s great that you’re studying what you love and I really hope it brings you joy.

As I expected a testing kit at $375 is a bit more than I want to spend at the moment, so it will be a trip to the hardware store for some 2 X 6 timber and some dowel. I will have to see if a friend has a bench drill so the dowel is a correct 90 degree angle.

Today’s target is 125 push-ups. 1.25 million Australians experience a substance misuse disorder every year. Substance misuse is closely linked to mental health difficulties. In fact, of those people living with a substance misuse disorder in Australia, it’s estimated that around 25% have another mental illness. When you have a mental illness, using substances like alcohol or other drugs may make you feel good in the short term, but almost always make symptoms more severe in the long run. It’s a chicken and egg situation - using substances can also precipitate the beginning of a mental health problem.

Our son has cut his alcohol consumption right down as he realises the impact it was having on his mental health. I like that you are doing this, Tru. It is really admirable.

Almost finished making my FMS kit, just need to find somebody with a bench drill so I can get the dowel holes perfectly vertical, could be a trip into the men's shed and get them to do it. Total cost so far $23, and a little bit of time, much better than $375

That's a pretty big difference! It's the same with therapy equipment, often: making a balance board when you have some wood scraps lying around will cost you nothing while buying it puts you back 80€ or so. Just so it looks "professional". I guess it's because these things are tax deductable for firms?

It helps that you are a very handy person too, of course. I must visit our local "men's" shed to see if I can get a chair fixed or if it's too hard and/or too costly.

Today’s target is 240 push-ups. Think that sounds tiring? When somebody has severe sleep apnoea, they can be dragged out of deep sleep more than 240 times every night. This has a huge effect on the body’s ability to rest, and can lead to a number of medical problems over time. However, another thing sleep apnoea can do is dramatically lower your mood. Undiagnosed sleep apnoea can feel an awful lot like depression. If you find yourself waking up in the morning feeling unrefreshed or with a headache, or if you have been told that you snore loudly or stop breathing in your sleep, consider talking to your doctor about sleep apnoea.

I have physio later this morning, but had to sand down and re-mark a piece of my FMS kit as last night my lovely little daughter while my 20 year old son was supposed to be watching her climbed up to a shelf, got hold of a black permanent marker and added her own artwork to my freshly made kit, and only on the kit, at least there was nothing on my timber floor.

The final 2 holes will get drilled tomorrow by a friend. After the extra sanding the timber actually has a nice grain so will finish the project with a nice varnish to seal, protect.
