Ko Am Mu Do

So i am looking to start some kind of martial art, im not exactly sure which kind to be honest. I found a couple places around my are such as Kempo, Kung Fu etc. I just got off the phone with a master at a school that teaches Ko Am Mu Do. He explained to me that this is a mix of TKD, Jujutsu, Hapkido, Kick boxing and incorporated weapon training for each belt. Does anyone know anything about this style of martial art? Would it be fun for me as a beginner? Also, i read the sticky and it said somewhere in there avoid places that work on contracts or promise black belt within X number of years. He didnt promise a black belt, but he did state that if i did goto class 3x a week for a year he could almost guarantee a green belt, which is halfway to Black. They also do month to month payments, but as he stated its cheaper to pay for some months/year in advance. The school is registered with the WTF (world tkd federation) and he says that within the school his black belt certifications come directly from Korea, from the country of origin. The master i spoke with is the instructure and he is a 4th dan black belt. Any advice/info would be great since im pretty much a noob when it comes to martial arts. Thanks!! :)

That sounds like a great martial art. It seems like it incorporates most of the arts so I would say give it a go. It sounds like you know your belt order so thats good. With martial arts it is not if your a high belt it is if you enjoy it. Do it for fun not grades. The best thing is if you do enjoy it you will be blue belt in no time.

3x a week!! that is alot!

anyone else know anything about Ko Am Mu do? I signed up today for a month trial membership. Im officially a white belt heh... i feel kinda embarresed. If anyone knows anything about Ko Am Mu Do pls chime up :)

I recommend going with Ko Am Mu Do

I began with their $75. 6 day beginners class. If you like it they put the $75. towards your monthly cost. That was a little over two yrs ago. I'm 59 yrs old. I have lifted weights for 30 yrs and been in competitive body building for the last 6 yrs. I was not real flexible. I've been in Ku Am Mu Do for over two yrs now. I test for my advanced red belt on Apr.15th. We have a 9th degree black belt (Grand Master) as head of our school. I was offered a 5 yrs contract which would guarantee I'd be a black belt within 5 yrs or the next two yrs were free, to obtain it. At my age I'd never believe that I could break a board with a spinning jumping back hook kick. Besides the flexibility, you have a real sense of confidence. You can walk down the street or go anywhere and know you can protect yourself and your family. This is not an aggressive type of Karate. It teaches you discipline and restraint. To respond automatically when attacked.
