Kindred's optifast diary

Im from Australia and Im trying the optifast program to see if you can lose fat and gain muscle on it. All I'm on is 3 optifast bars a day and doing heavy weights 3 days a week and 1 karate lesson a week.

Day 4 - 7th May 2009

I feel weak and have no energy. Other than that im doing ok.

My current strength is as follows:

Squats 80kg or 176lb
Bench 90kg or 198lb
Deadlifts 80kg or 176lb
Rows 70kg or 154lb
Military Press 60kg or 132lb

My aim is to lose about 50kg or 110lb of weight. One of my aims is also to see if I lose strength while on this diet. As everyone is different Ive decided to actually try it out and see if I lose or gain strength with regular weight training incorporated with the diet.

EDIT: I just wanted to add another aim. Currently i overload my scales and I want to be able to get to a point where I can stand on them without the overload symbol coming on. To do that I will need to be under 130kg or 286lb. Currently I have no idea what my weight is as my scales keep overloading. I have been told I look from 90kg to 120kg so going on peoples estimates doesnt really help. The last time I weighed myself with a heavy duty scale I was at 147kg which was about 6 months ago. I dont think I have gained any weight since then but who knows!

Hi Kindred

Another Aussie here *waves*

You didn't say if you are a bloke or a sheila :p

Have you worked out your Calories that you should be eating per day?

I am no expert, but seriously.. why go with meal replacements? Why not just structure a healthy eating plan for life.. not try to diet it all quickly off. THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES. <--- this is an undisputed truth in weight loss.. In order to obtain long term change and long term results you need to rethink your approach I believe :)

You are already feeling weak which sucks.. you should be feeling good and positive at this stage!

I can't comment on your workout as I am a total Newbie to Workouts.

Welcome to you anyway and I strongly suggest you read read read the stickies around here, and learn learn learn.. it is massively empowering to gain the knowledge to change your life.. YOURSELF :D

I agree with Kori. I don't know anything about the diet you're on, but just 3 bars a day? Just thinking about eating just 3 bars a day makes me hungry. That's probably the main reason you're feeling weak. I agree with Kori - you should have a balanced meal plan.

Hi and yeah im Australian and Im male

I wanna do it mostly to see what will happen. I dont have that much more to say at the moment :) When i do ill be sure to put it in my diary here.

Ill just add. A lot of doctors think its well balanced so ??? Call me crazy but... Ill go by what medical proffesionals say.

Dude, look whatever you reckon OK, you are giving it a go, and good on you.. Ultimately it is your decision which weight loss direction you take. I have a huge dislike of the "industry" in general.. and very specifically with some of the BS claimed.

But seriously think about it.. What Doctors would recommend replacing 3 sound meals a day with a Shake or a bar.... the ones employed by Nestle? (who own Optifast apparently) Show me an independant report by an Australian Medical Body.. or Government Health Dept recommending it.. and I might believe it ;)

The Weight Loss industry is a multi Billion dollar one, there is big bucks to be made selling the notion of quick easy weight loss. IMHO meal replacements are complete garbage as they teach you nothing, and actually promote bad habits. Even Optifast's own website has a section on Weight Loss Surgery.. :icon_bs:

If you Follow a sensible low fat/moderate cal eating plan appropriate for your AGE/WEIGHT/ACTIVITY levels (and I might add approved by REAL Doctors/Health Authorities/Any Professional Dietician etc) And you will lose all the weight you want over a sensible period of time, it is a little more complicated that just grabbing a bar.. but what are you going to do that for the rest of your life???

Please don't believe anything claimed by one of the largest Multi National Food companies in the world...just because they claim some Doctor(s) said it was good.

Check out a guy called Steve around here.. he seems to be the guru for Blokes wanting to get buff and lose weight.

Anyway.. I didn't want to rain on your parade, but it really worries me.. especially when you are already feeling weak on this, my motivation for commenting is purely concern for you.

:waving:

To be honest I think you're a little paranoid.

My doctor said it was ok so thats good enough for me.
