I'm glad to see you workin' through those blues!
I know how it can get when you feel like "it's all just a grind" and you have to do stuff because you need the money, but remember that money will help feed your new "exercise expenditures" habit :p
BTW, congrats on the jogging! I still can't do it, but I am hiking a lot!
Keep working on your daily chores, remember that a single day at maintenance calories is NOT going to add any pounds, and keep having a good time.
You should take some pictures of the garden you're working in; I would love to see your favorite parts!

My Favourite Parts? (Okay that was my dirty mind at work)

Today I drove out to a scenic neighbourhood and did a walk/jog. It took me half an hour to get warmed up but in the end I finished with a 25 minute shuffle. I have shin splints.

I'm rebounding from a little spring fever. Off the wagon. Having a few free days here while I figure out how to get back on the wagon. I think I'm distracted by my kids and spring break.

ps

If anyone has any experience working through shin splints from jogging I'd like to hear. It wasn't easy today, and I didn't get my heart rate up. I just plugged away. When does it get easier?

Oh Kelly - I had the worst shin splints of my life about 8-9 months ago - they took a full two weeks to heal, and hurt like HELL!

I'd like to say I plugged on through the pain, but after the 3rd day I was in agony and by the end of the first week I seriously considered going to the doctor because I thought the damage was far worse then simply shin splints, I thought it was more along the lines of a stress fracture.

The good news is that the pain did go away - icing it might help, maybe an Aleve...

I hope you get passed this quickly!

I'm glad you appreciate my sense of humor and find it "subtle and refreshing", instead of the usual "I'm calling the cops, sicko!" response I get. :D
Shin splints suck, and I can definitely say that there are a couple of short term "emergency-must-be-on-your-feet" fixes (pain pills, wrapping your shins with a wide ace bandage, extra socks) but they must NOT be used to "keep training and work through the pain". If there is an emergency reason you HAVE to spend a lot of time on your feet, then they can help prevent further injuries, but the simple act of spending that much time on your feet is not going to help you in your healing time.
The article posted above here seems like it is pretty reasonable, but the exercises have to be started slowly, and should generally be done once your splints have healed. They do have some nice simple exercises, though; I plan to do some of them in the coming days, I really want to make sure I build those muscles and gain that flexibility.

What do I think you should do? Make your kids rub your feet and calves, it both feels good AND stimulates blood flow to an area that is well known to have problems receiving enough oxygen and nutrition. Tell them it's your physical therapy and you cannot do it yourself. :p

happy monday to you- - it's also poultry day today - do the chicken dance beneath the light of the moon... have a fantastic week...

Hi Kelly, hope the shin splints are getting better. I have had them before a couple of times and like M2M said, they take a week or two to go away. Hope they heal soon! :)

forum buddies

Need some lovin'. Miss the way I was feeling and acting and doing the previous three weeks. Think I had a touch of mania that has set me back but I was doing so well. Wish I had someone to talk to.

Kelly, we all have these days. This is a tough battle we're all in. Personally, I think it's harder than quitting smoking. I was able to quit smoking cold turkey, after smoking 2 packs a day for 8 years. The thing is, you can cut the cigs out of your life entirely, but you can't do that with food. On top of that, food wraps its tentacles around our psychology as we grow up, and our emotions often get the better of our logical minds.

On days like this I just force myself to do some exercise. It isn't fun, but I know I'll feel better for it afterward.

Good luck, and don't forget -- we're all rootin' for ya!

53 minutes later

I jogged for almost half of 53 minutes. I need to get about 30 minutes in before I start to feel really warmed up, then I can go a better distance. The sunshine and buds on the trees and the yards looked pretty in the evening light.

I guess the worst part of the last few days has been that I have let my chart go. I havn''t done big damage or anything, just don't feel like keeping track. In a way its been good because I have assessed my "natural" eating habits and they are better than they were.

Shins making themselves known. My bulk is somewhat bulky. But I am not too fat to enjoy jogging. I have done so much walking its good to kick it up a notch.

My chart....ahhhh. (Laments chart) Oh well.

Would anyone like to chat? I'm in my kitchen cooking, gonna hang out in the lounge for a bit.

Kelly

Good on you, Kelly. I bet you feel a lot better now -- at least a lot better than you would have if you hadn't have gone jogging.

Oh, I've never had shin splints, but I hear they are terrible. Also, sorry you are feeling bored/lonely/alone.. or whatever that feeling is. I know I get it sometimes. Keep up what you are doing, because it is working!

I hope you're evening went well, take it easy tho. No sense doing yourself damage. Remember, you can lose weight through simple diet alone if necessary.

Hey there Kelly - Im glad to see you are off and running - good for you - some one once told me that once you are ina routine of exercising for 2 weeks plus and have to jsut give it up like that - that it triggers an on set depression...I thought that was interestign at the tiem whenI was going throgh some stuff - it really made a lot of sence...

Anyway good for you for continuing to plug along - ya know if you ever need to talk or vent or whatever you can pm me or email me or write in my diary - Im here ofr ya well at least I am trying to be lol...Have a good day Kelly
