Hi all!

I have been here since 2009 and felt I needed to stop in and say hi!!! I just wanted to let you all know who are starting out you can do this!! I was around 300lbs when I started and lost 125lbs. I have kept it off and just wanted to post the 2.5 year after maintaining pic for those that are wondering if you can keep it off.

For a quick recap:

BEFORE: 2008/ Lifestyle change start date: Feb of 2009

AFTER: October-Dec 2009 (120lbs gone)

And me today before I went out and did a 5 mile hike with a 700ft incline.

(That back in Jan 2009 I don't think I would of ever thought I could do.)

Big thumbs up!

EDIT: Fixed pics because what is a thread like this with out them!

WOW. I'm a little speechless here, you look absolutely unbelievable!!! I can't get over how much younger you look!! Congratulations, that is such a huge achievement! I bet you are having so much fun with your daughter (assuming that's your daughter :p) now that you can be really active with her!

I have a goal of losing ~125 lbs, I've lost 70 so far, and I am so grateful that you posted because it has really motivated me! I'm wondering if you were overweight your whole life, or did you gain weight later in life? And if you don't mind me asking, did you have and problems with loose skin when you hit your goal? Sorry, I know that's really personal, but it's definitely something I'm worried about, so I'm interested to know!

That is my daughter! She is in kindergarten now... so crazy. I was 29 at my initial loss and am 32 now.

I was over weight my whole life but having my daughter I ballooned even more then before.

And OMG Girl... the loose skin.... lets just say I love myself some body shapers to keep it all held up. The awesome thing though... you can HIDE loose skin. You can NOT hide the fat. I could have a body lift at some point but the thought of the pain after surgery and the inability to work out for 12 weeks after makes me very hesitant about having it done. And please ask away! I am an open book. If I can help I am totally happy too.

Omg! Kiks! :hurray:

Long time no see! You're looking even more amazing than the last time I saw ya!

Glad to see you post again! So happy you're continuing to do amazingly!

Again though, you look so fantastic! Wow! :hurray:

I hope you come around a bit more often! Always nice to see successful veterans in this war on weight stop by and offer reassurance that it is indeed possible to do remarkable things!

I have been around just lurking. I figured with the new year I would bust out a thread so people know you can do it and maintain it. I've read lots of your updated stuff. You have come so far Frogged we should meet up if you are ever in N. California and toast a large pitcher of water!

Definitely!

I am looking to travel more in the future when time permits. I just got back from NY not too long ago and I plan to go back soon!

I'd love to check out the west coast someday though!

Excellent job! I can't believe how wonderful, healthy and fit you look in the last after shot! Congrats, and thanks for posting some inspiration!

Wow! Congrats, you look so much younger :) I hope that I will find as much energy and willpower to do that.

What a transformation......You look so beautiful and happy :) Your determination is something to look forward to and imbibe in me i guess ;)

Love life , love yourself,

It's pretty surprising how quickly your body's set point will pick a new weight to stick around (thus allowing you to not have to work out daily/etc to maintain it). ;)

Checking in again and saw this comment. I work out every day still. I do 3-6 miles of hiking and lift for 45-60 minutes a day as well. I think if you start slacking and don't keep moving you start slipping down the slope that leads back to weight gain. The biggest thing I think that has helped me maintain is that mindset. It is a life style change not a "Oh hey I'm here time to relax!"

I wish it was as easy as my body going oh hey yeah lets just stay at this weight but the truth is for me I have to work at it to stay looking like this.

You look amazing! and younger!!!! good job, your an inspiration to us all :) as cheesey as that sounds i mean it

Oh no, of course. Your body will always try to go back after losing significant weight (or rather, it's much easier for it to) because of the adipose cells which are enlarged but never go away that people who were never that big never have.

However, there are a few advantages:

People who were fit when they were younger and never gained weight tend to be that way because of high metabolism... which slows down which age.. which is why a lot of those football jocks and stuff end up with big beer bellies later :p etc.

We know what we have to do to keep weight off ;)

That being said, your body will gravitate around a point; that doesn't give you a free pass to keep doing whatever you want, but it does mean that when your body is trying to stick around its set point (that's an actual psychology term for this X_x), it will adjust to try and keep you there. It's good (your metabolism speeds up when we go above the set point), but it's also bad (it slows down when we try to go below it...).

But, your maintenance level is way less than your -lose- level. ;)
