Just another new guy

Hi all,

Like I said, just another new guy here on the forums. I'm on 2 weeks into my New Year resolution and looking for a active community for support like this seems to be.

I'm 38 and a father of 2 young boys. My family (wife and boys) are my biggest motivation to finally lose the 30 pounds I've been carrying around for quite a few years now. I'm 5'11" and started the year off at 208 pounds.

I've stopped drinking soda (used to drink a liter or two a day), gave up junk food (could eat a box of Little Debbies in one sitting, and did so quite a few days a week sometimes), and started eating more healthy, 6 times a day. Basic common sense approach I guess.

I'm participating in the Men's Health Belly Off! 2008 challenge which has been very motivating.

I look forward to meeting great folks here, getting even more motivated and helping motivate others.

Regards,

Steve

Hi and good luck to you!!! Im kind of the same boat, only it wasnt a new years resolution technically since I started before the new year lol

I didnt drink as much soda as you, but I've cut mine completely out and just after a few weeks have noticed a BIG difference

Hi there Steve,

Hi Steve -

I am a new member to the forums also.
I also have 2 young kids, both girls and I feel the same way about the fat daddy.
I have a bit more to lose than you but its awesome you are here. We all need to support each other through this life change we are all fighting for.
Good luck and cannot wait to hear about your progress.

Hi & Welcome! :waving: What actually surprises me, is that you only are a little overweight with such bad eating habits. You must have great metabolism! Best to you on changing your habits!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome, I really appreciate it. I hope I can help out and keep others motivated while staying motivated.

Isn't it amazing how much that stuff contributes to how you feel and your weight? It wasn't too terribly hard to quite. I've heard of others having withdrawls, which I was a bit worried about, but nothing. Did you have any withdrawl symptoms?

Amen to that Scott, we're all in this together, right? The fat dad thing is what finally pushed me to realize I'd let myself go. I ignored what was obvious to everyone else. It wasn't until my 6 year old's friends called me fat at football practice one day. It devastated me, but I'm sure my son didn't like hearing his dad called a name like that. So, that's where NoMoreFatDad (aka NMFD) came from.

Good luck with your weight loss and let me know if you need anything, I'll be happy to help however I can.

nope, not a one....It was weird....I had told myself I would allow myself tea if we went out to eat...which we did Friday night and it almost tasted to weird to drink lol

LOL, I had never thought of it that way before. I guess you're right. I was a bean pole in high school. When I joined the Navy, I was ~160 pounds. It wasn't till I lived on my own and was able to eat whatever I want, whenever I wanted that I developed the bad eating habits. There are a few times I've stepped on the scale after a week of eating Little Debbies or other crap and was rather suprised I was still at the 208-210 mark. I guess that means there is hope for me yet. Just eat right, and get a bit more active and hopefully that naturally great metabolism will kick into high gear (if only it were that easy!).

Thanks!

Refined carbs in soft drinks seem to be the WORST THING IN THE WORLD. Somehow to me they're also the most delicious. :( Sacrifice!

I am also lookin to get rid of the fat dad thing, I am so glad we are all here together. We are very similar, in that I have 2 young boys, and at 5'9" and 238, am looking to regain my muscular build so my wife and kids have someone to look up to

lets do it
Brian
