just another ab question

To get abs visible, i heard you have to train hard sets, and easier sets, say 3*5 reps with really hard resistance, and the other day 3*12 easier, say, situps. And apart from that, eating is of c important.

Now my question, how do you apply more weight to the ab movements? The toughest ab exercise i know of is the simple and original situp with no support for your feet and your hands behind the neck. However i can do 3*20 of these.
What is really tough, tough to the extent that i can only perform like 3*5 of, assuming that i wouldn't like to use machines?

There are plenty of resistant abs movements that are pretty difficult without weights even for advanced users. However try adding weights to these excersises. These are without use of any machine or bench. If you have a bench then you can make it even tougher.

what i do that really busts by abs is leg lifts with a twelve pound weight ball on my ankles. Lay flat on your back and lift your legs off the ground. Have someone put a 12 pound weight ball on your ankles and balance it there while slightly lifting your legs up and letting them go back down. This can be a difficult excercise though because you need someone else and it takes practice to be able to balance the weight ball on your ankles without dropping it.

nice idea fitwes! i'm not gonna use a weight ball though, just some strap-on weights on my ankle, maybe 4 one-kg weights (about 10 pounds).

theleip - i'm pretty familiar with those movements, but my personal trainer said that short ab movements wont develop the muscles - the movement needs to be long and thorough. But i'm gonna try them anyway.

Thanks to both!

Your PT sounds fishy. Fitwes, what you described predominantly works the hip flexors.

Try this. Tell me how it goes, cause my gym lost their ankle straps...:(
