Just a little bit more to go ...

Hey thanks Nightrunner! :) I hope you enjoy the blog. I have 20 or so posts lined up to post, but I need to tweak photos before I can get things going. :)

Last night I made gazpacho from the tomatoes and zucchini that I got at the veggie stand. I picked up some gorgeous purple heirloom tomatoes and they make a beautiful soup. So dark and vibrant!

Tonight I'm planning on grilled salmon, but I can't decide if I want to put a remoulade on it or something more sweet and fruity. I'll probably have a baked sweet potato and a big spinach salad with it.

So any suggestions of food anyone would like to see posted on my blog? I have a ton of ideas, but I'm always open to suggestions.

Bittman paraprhased: There's a diff. between deprivation and discipline. Be aware of true needs vs momentary cravings.

That rings true for me. I need to ponder it more and maybe blog about it.

In this moment I'm craving vodka...is it just this moment or a true need? I think...vodka never lies, its always needed.

I freaking LOVE hot dogs! I don't eat them anymore but Hebrew National is the best of the worst. I love them with saurkraut.

Oh and just for info purposes, they are not 97% fat free. They actually have 20% fat per serving.

No, they actually are 97% fat free, meaning 3% fat. Each frank weighs approximately 45 grams, of which only 1 gram is fat. And if one does the math, 44/45=.977, so to me that's 97% fat free.

Now, they do provide 25% (not 20%) of their calories from fat, but that's not what you said.

Sorry to hijack your diary Kara....I know Guess Who is obsessed with fat from other threads :)

I'm an admitted coffeeholic.... :(

I have a Keurig single cup brewer that I would run into a burning house to save....we've named her Kerri.... :ack2:

So excited. My sprouting seeds from Park showed up. I have radish, watercress, alfalfa, and broccoli. Mmm. I'm already thinking about sandwiches with sprouts.

Down to 173.8 today. Yay.

I took measurements last night (first time in a long time) and compared them to last year at the same time and I'm rather disappointed in myself. I wanted to maintain for a year, but I've picked up a few inches overall and I know better. It's amazing the difference that 10lbs can make in overall inches. Looking at the differences has definitely pushed my level of commitment.

On happier news, my new bed gets delivered today ... whee! Of course it means taking the whole bedroom apart to make room for it, but it's a small sacrifice. :)

Yes coffee...and vodka...and sometimes in combination when drinking white russians...lol! Add a hebrew national to that and I'm in heaven.

New beds rock! I don't know how people managed hundreds of years ago sleeping on hard mats on the floor. I'm definatly glad civilation has progressed to the point of the temprapedic.

Jeeze. Can you tell I'm bored this week? My name is all over the board the last couple of days. It's almost embarrassing. :)

I really need to find something else to do.

Hey!
Just glanced through your journal, looks like you're doing great!! Your dedication is encouraging!! Congrats on hitting 173.8!!

Nicole;)

Nope, I spend nearly an hour or more a day on here now. I find if I at least browse some posts daily I am more likely to stay on target for some reason. I just don't post as much as you cause I'm afraid of sounding stupid or not posting my thoughts elegantly enough. Or that I will be giving out erroneous info.

Anyways, I am trying to decide what I want to glaze tonight or tomorrow so I can try that out. It's been on my mind since you posted it, but I really cannot manage more than a pair of serious cooking sessions a week right now.

Finally, you asked for input on the cooking blog and I was embarrassed to realize I couldn't think of any requests to make. My problem is that I am a bachelor and while I do better than the average bach in many ways I don't think my cooking skills are all that great and I certainly don't know that many recipes.

None of which stops me from diving in and making recipes. The night I made the veal sliders I also prepped a yogurt and cuke sauce with a fruit and honey glaze for the chicken along with a cut of fish and some shrimp. So really, I cannot think of a certain request, but if you could remember that some of us are totally novice and guide us towards all the things we wanted to know how to cook but didn't realize it, well that would be great.

That's a really great suggestion. I struggle with that sometimes - balancing wanting to make fancy recipes with wanting to share things that are accessible. I've decided that I'm going to start a regular Thursday posting sharing tips, tricks, gadgets, etc. Today was the Magic Bullet and a hummus recipe.

This morning I was down to 172.6. Whee. Now what I have to do is NOT say "wow, I've done so well I can splurge" - which is my usual pattern. :)

I would love love love to be down in the 160s again by the end of this month. It would put me back to where I was when I stopped losing last year. Last June, ever so briefly, I touched 159 (for a day) and then I bounced back up to 162 or so and have held in the 160s/170s ever since.

Funny thing, I feed Lyle McDonald's blog - read this on Tuesday: . Last night was a weights night for me and I found myself unconsciously loading the bars to keep the strength in. :) It made me laugh when I realized I was doing it.

I'm going to unveil my ignorance and ask what the heck does it mean to "keep the power inside the bar"????? Maybe I should have read the article better instead of skimming it... :(

E.

That was the whole thing - it was about superstitions and rituals and how they can be effective because they provide a mental boost.

He talked about how a very early trainer always made him load the weights onto the bar with the hollow/curved bits inside - to keep the power "inside" and how he still does it to this day.

From the article:
It’s a belief thing, call it voodoo or placebo but, here’s the thing: if a placebo effect makes you perform better, is it really a placebo? If it makes someone perform better or more consistently, that’s all that matters even if, at face value, it seems insane.

The magic bullet I have, does not belong in the kitchen...
Heheheh. I have one of those, too. I am wondering how many people will hit my blog after a search on the phrase and be totally confused. :)
