Journey, Not A Destination

I absolutely disagree with you, and if you were in my line of work you would not feel as you do.

What if you weren't in your line of work and were a buyer with no affiliation to the seller's agent?

Trust me--I don't know a single agent who's never gotten screwed over by a client

I am not a client though, so where does my moral obligation lie?

Good morning sunshine...

THis isn't a drive-by -I just have nothing to contribute... :D

have you and the ever so cute gordy set a launch date for your web venture yet? when do i get to break the bottle of champagne over my computer monitor in celebration?

Hahaha, Gordy and I haven't met for a few weeks sadly. We're both just extremely busy. That's not to say no work has been done. He's been doing some 'off web' stuff that has to get done. We're putting together custom workout logs that we think we'll be sending to our clients. They'll get a 3 ring binder in the mail with our logo on front and inside it will be their workout logs to track what they do in the gym.

This will get sent back to us which might be a pain for the client so we have to think it through some more.

It might be a pain if they don't have a scanner they will have to type what they wrote in their log to send to us.

I've been interviewing Lyle and writing my book. I don't like calling it a book... in my mind it's more of an introductory manual covering just the basics. Most anyone who follows my stuff on here won't learn anything new from it. Except for the psychology section which I've been putting a lot of work into.

As of now I'm not sure if the book will be done when we're ready to open for business or not.

In a way I feel like we've already opened for business b/c we're working with a number of people online already... I don't want to have that trap me into thinking I don't have to work hard on getting the site complete enough to release the name to the 'public' though!

Short answer: No clue, lol.

A while back I think you had started to work on using pdf forms...

that might be an option...

AND... another option -if I were to engage a few brain cells... since you've got the other web hosting facility that allows for databases... to have an online form set up so people could come directly to your website and enter their information there...

the front end would be user friendly and the back end could be all sorts of reporting...

Not something you have to do immediately -but it's something to consider

Yea, we thought of this and we might utilize it.

But it still means that some people will have to write in their logs while training, then, at some time before our scheduled review which will happen probably twice per month but depend on the client, they have to go on the computer and refill out what's in their log on either a spreadsheet or a pdf form... assuming they don't have a scanner.

If we did this we would need a 'client-only' portal which isn't hard to do...

It's a thought.

That's enticing but sounds freaking complicated.

I'm sick of complicated, lol.

Definitely.

Eventually I think we'll have a professional look at everything we're doing in terms of the site and tell us how we can optimize it.

Smart me says this should be done up front.

Dumb me says I don't feel like the hassle.

I like that idea for both the forum and for your website... while your paying customers get access to you and gordy -having extras on the website that aren't available to mere mortals is an added bonus...

Good morning!

Just my personal opinion:

I wouldn't mind keeping the journal and then re-entering it online. I enjoy my exercise journal and it has been a great help. I have been pretty much writing down everything in my WLF diary anyway minus my pathetic weight amounts. In fact I find it helps. I can by the time physically do it, write in my journal, when I go to re-enter I can pretty much do it by memory. I DL'd a spreadsheet from Stronglifts but I ditched it and just swiped an extra day calender from work.

I would likely rather do that than mail a binder. Dont forget cost also. I UPS 5-20 sample binders a day and I can tell you. It aint cheap. Or fast. I don't remember where you are but chances are good that a good portion of the country will be 4-5 days away. Then it will have to come back.

I agree... it's something I do want to add once I forumlate a plan as to what exactly will be there.

Gordy still likes the idea of making all the videos private which I'm not too sure about. I like reaching people and that's something the general population needs as a whole bad... client or no client.

the videos are public... and they are superb...

However, the real value comes from actually knowing how to put an effective workout routine together... like how many of each thing do I do, in what order should i be doing them, how often... etc... I'd imagine that's what people would be paying for...

We haven't priced it out yet and you're right... it may not make sense since we're trying to keep our services as cheap as possible which is another thing I've been wrestling with. I currently have a number of people on our online platform and a few are under different "price models" which annoys me.

But we were only planning on shipping the binders out once. From there, they'd be emailed the updated sheets and insert them into their binders themselves.

Our thought is a) it would make it easy for them and assure they're tracking what they need to be tracking and b) it would get other people in their gyms interested in what this binder with our logo plastered on the front is.

But again, the cost has to make sense.

Oh that most certainly is what people are paying for.

The videos are just that... videos.

They teach proper form, nothing more.

I would never charge an individual even for a program.

I charge someone when they want my 'coaching.' A program is a once and done thing. Add coaching to it and now you have a dynamic animal that is modified as you progress through your journey and tweaked based on feedback; psychological and physiological.

Gord knows this but he also knows how much work we put into our videos and it might be an enticing factor for a potential client rather than just giving it to them.

I think I've talked him into playing it by ear... if we're hurting for business, maybe. But IMO it's a great reason to for people to want to come to our site.

Not cheap...

inexpensive... reasonable... economical...

cheap is the polyester shirt that falls apart after 2 washings or shrinks beyond belief...

you guys aren't cheap... you offer a much needed service that is financially accessible to the majority of the public...

I misread that part. I thought they would mail the whole thing back. My bad. Yeah they could mail back the guts and you could mail new sheets standard mail so that wont be too bad.

I agree that the binders would be a good idea. But then again I sell binders so I always think they are a good idea

Great correction

Yeah and dont forget: They are getting a binder. Any trainer will recommend a journal. So this is a necessity. If they go to OfficeMax and buy a binder they will likely be out the same amount of money. Or even more depending on the qty you guys can order.

Yea, what I typed is stupid.

I'm not even thinking the client has to mail anything back, unless they want to. The way I envision it is simple.

We mail binder with guts

They fill out guts while they train

They either type up what they wrote in the guts or scan the original cuts so they can email the info back to us

We email them more guts that they put in the binder themselves

Does that make sense?

perfect sense... :)

and that's where i like the idea of pdf forms...

the client can print out the form and it looks all nice and purdy...

then they can fill out the very same form in acrobat reader (a free application avaialbe everywhere) and you can have teh form at the click of a mouse - email the contents fo the form back to you... (or into a database...)

Steve, you crack me up. I love what a straight shooter you are and how you bust people's balls. A+ for having a mind of your own and for calling people out on their nonsense. hahaha...I'm almost over the hurdle at work so I'd like to get caught up on your diary soon. You have so much going on here in one day alone it's hard to stay on top of it all!!

What's instore for the circuit training today? Is that posted in here a few pages back? Maybe I missed it.
