Journey, Not A Destination

Hi Steve,
I put the rest of my measurements in my journal, as well as my response to your advice (which, of course, I intend to take!). Thanks for all your help.

If you keep up at this rate, you'll have to hire an apprentice!

Steve, one other question --
On squats and deadlifts, what do you think about starting at a lower weight and add some weight with each set, so that you warm up before doing your heaviest weight? Or is it enough of a warmup just to do a few reps with the bar only?

Thanks for stopping by my diary and offering your support... it is much appreciated. Hope you are having a Happy Tuesday! :)

You are quite welcome, and good day to you too. :)

Good Morning Steve! ::waves::

Morning! :D

Good morning Steve! hope you have a wonderful day!!:)

Plan on it, it is supposed to hit 70 degrees here today. I am ecstatic!!!! :)

If this does not trigger something, you might need to up cals for a bit. We will see. I have also had to drop cals down to 8 per pound of body weight to trigger some weight loss for some. But I would rather see you up cals for a brief period after this rather than cut. I want to make sure your measurements are not increasing in good areas, like arms, chest, etc.... which would mean some muscle gains, which will net out with your fat loss to show no movement in weight.

However, I see you lost some weight from yesterday, which is nice.

Geez, I should have discussed warm up with you, totally forgot.

A warm up's main objective is to prepare your body for the type of work it is about to undergo. This said, I recommend some dynamic flexibility work before you start.

However, in terms of specific weight warm up, this serves as a neuromuscular rehearsal of the upcoming lifts. Most people warm up with really light weights and high reps. I think this is an invitation for injury and/or chronic aches and pains.

If you want to get some blood flowing, hop on the elliptical for a few minutes.

When it comes to the weights, a few build up sets I recommend. So for instance, if you were going to squat 200 x 5 for your working sets, your warm up would look something like this.

95x5
135x3
185x1

Quote of the day

If I repeat one, let me know.... my memory is terrible.

"Stand up to your obstacles and do something about them. You will find that they haven't half the strength you think they have."

oooh I know that one... Norman Vincent Peale you are quite the renaissance man - Seneca yesterday and now Peale today :) I'm waiting for Eleanor Roosevelt to come soon :)

nicely done

ok i have a question for master Steve :D

i'm starting gym tomorrow, but i honestly have no idea on what to focus (any recommendations?)
also i have some big lack of energy lately. i think its because of too much work, but deb mentioned something that it might be because of my calorie deficit. now i don't wanna trouble you too much and hold up too much space in your diary hehe i'm gonna post a link with question i put on harsh truth if that's ok and can you take a look and tell me what ya think?

http://weight-loss.fitness.com/harsh-truth/10006-am-i-doing-right.html

so am i doing it right nutrition wise?
and what do you recommend me for the gym? i was thinking of doing around 20-30 minutes of bike or walking on treadmill but using the HIIT as you described or at least try hehe and then do series of crunches, push ups, and then some weights.

Lena :D

P.S. if i didn't explain myself too well its the language thing...i sometimes have trouble explaining myself in english lol

Your caloric intake seems pretty low for your size. I don't think you need to bump up to HIIT yet. What is wrong with your back?

Hey Steve! Hope you can get out and enjoy the weather! It's supposed to be 55 here in Minnesota...a heat wave for us!

Thanks! I doubt I will get out much today. Will probably walk downtown today during lunch. Tomorrow afternoon though, when it is supposed to hit 70 again, I think I am going for a bike ride with a few friends. Can't wait, will be the first activity outside for quite some time. :)

wait till i find a dictionary lol......

ok found it hehe but there's no exact word. nerve in my lower back became like pinched (improvising here) and i was in therapy for 2 months getting massages and all. it is much better now and my instructors are always aware and help me with the exercises that are directed at my lower back.

as for calories i'm keeping it at the higher level last few weeks (except last few days cause i had schedule problems and just couldn't eat). i calculated my calories on wishes home page and on sparkspeople. there are days when i get to 1800 or 1900...i'm just trying to eat when i'm hungry and control portions. some days i'll eat a bit more but i rarely go over 1900.

thanx steve :D

Oooh Steve in nice snug fitting bicycle shorts :) and nothin' on top -

now that's a nice visual that will get me thru the next meeting.

thanks :p you're a peach you really are..

Without knowing the exact condition, I really hesitate to make exercise recommendations for you. I would stick with the doc's advice, and hope he/she knows what they are doing.

In terms of nutrition, you could comfortably hang around 2000 cals and lose weight. And it seems like things have been working well for you, as in, you are losing weight. So make sure you monitor your cals, not letting them get so low again, and you are in good shape.

If you plateau, come and see me. :)

Ooooh even better -steve bicycling au natural :)

doesn't that get uncomfortable?

sorry ill behave
