Journey, Not A Destination

Ashamed of what? Don't be ridiculous!

If you are going to be adding all this cardio into the mix, BE SURE you get more than the 1500 cals!

What do you mean your fat intake is sad? Dietary fat doesn't make you fat, you know this right?

Look, I can't stress how important nutrition is to successful goal completion. We have spent so much time on program design and exercise, and that TRULY takes a back seat to your nutrition. If your nutrition is not in line, everything we have discussed so far means ABSOLUTELY nothing. I mean it.

If you don't want to speak about your nutrition in public, feel free to PM me.

I'm not a healthy eater. I'm asian and I eat white rice and pork and steak and chicken with the skin. I do eat vegetables but it's mostly stirfry. I've taken out all fried foods, even eggrolls, which are my favorites. There are things that I have tried to change such as eating brown rice instead of white rice, but with my family and having dinner with them, white rice is a given, so I just limit my portions, only 1 bowl and eat more vegetables.

I LOVE SWEETS. It's so bad that I can't have candy in the house because I will eat it all and when I head to Target I have to NOT look at the candy counter. This is how bad my addiction is.

I've started eating every 2-3 hours and I'm not very good at counting calories so that's why I have fitday. When I think I eat a lot, I find that I'm barely eating 1500. Suggestions? I did see your list of foods in a post awhile back. The thing is, I hate counting calories. I'd rather just eat and know that what I'm putting in my mouth is healthy and that's it.

Look, you don't have to count calories forever. It is as simple as this:

Figure out your caloric needs to match your goals. You have done this already.

Figure out how much protein you need. This is roughly 1 gram per pound.

Figure out how many good fats to get in.

Once done this, fill the rest of the required calories with whatever you want, logically as healthy as possible, but even that doesn't play a HUGE factor in reaching your goals. If we are talking about optimal health, that is another story. But if we are talking about reaching your physique goals, you can get away with more than most make it out to seem, just as long as your calories, proteins, and good fats are in check.

Once you know these things, you simply divide it by the number of meals you can realistically fit into your day. If is 3, so be it. If it is 7, whatever.

I like to put a bunch of different meals that satisfy my calorie and macronutrient needs onto an excel spreadsheet. I have many. that way, before I go grocery shopping, I decide how I am going to eat for the week. Check out the my list of optional meals that I created on excel, and go from there. I don't count calories at all, except for when I am developing new meals.

Takes leg work in the beginning, but smooth sailing afterward.

You get out what you put into this. Blunt, but true. I don't think any less of you if you don't put in what it takes to get lean. But if you REALLY want to be lean, it is going to take a certain commitment and some sacrifices. It is that simple.

Oh, and fat you eat does not make you fat, that is what I meant by my last statement. Fat is formed from excess energy. Too many calories. The body can't utilize what you eat, so it stores it for later. Has nothing to do with the fact that you eat fats.

Sean likes PITA's - he told me so :)

Good Morning Handsome,
I wanted to stop by and thank you for all the support you've passed my way lately!

My days are looking brighter :D

You are quite welcome. I saw in your journal that everything turned out for the better, which is great. I am very happy.

Hi Steve! Sorry I haven't been here in a while. You are still looking great, so I guess everything's ok? As if look good has anything to do with it huh! I want to thank you again for your tips. I am now weight training on a regular basis and am seeing results, not in weight, but in my measurements! Thanks for all your help, you've been great!!:)

That is very good to hear. Measurements are what really matter. Do you think a pro bodybuilder is looking at himself in the mirror thinking, "Gee, I look like I am carved out of stone, but the scale says I am 300 lbs, so I have to lose weight" ?

Keep it up, and feel free to stop by anytime with questions.

Are you in a caloric deficit?

easier said than done - especially when you're female... not a good excuse but - it's reality... measurements are definitely more important than the number on the scale - but we still like to see that number go lower... I find threatening my scale helps... :)

Yea, but who cares about that stupid number? How you look is what matters. A scale is a tool that tells you very little about what is actually going on.

A beginner for example, can actually lose fat and gain muscle simultaneously. That is awesome. But the scale might not go down during this time period. It may stay the same, or it may even go up. But the individual may look a hell of a lot better.

I know you know this Mal, I just hate scales.

putting on my whiney neglected college student cap -- back in the dark ages when I was college... I wasn't in super duper athlete shape, but I could hold my own - I pitched, I swam butterfly, and I was a damn good field hockey player... Every year the members of the teams would have our stats published - including height and weight... I think in college I probably weighed about 170 (I could also bench press more than most of the football players) but I remember hearing from the boys - Oh she's fat - she weighs 170 - didnt matter what I looked like - it was the number that mattered.. (and the fact that well - i still had my face but that's another issue :D

I should be adult enough to be past this - and god help me I no longer care (to some degree) what other people think - but... that freakin' number is what people get judged on too often.

You are right, far to much emphasis is placed on it. You keep working your butt off and prove them wrong. Actions speak louder than words, always.

Looking past it is not as easy as I stated.... the subconscious mind is an EXTREMELY powerful mechanism.

** note to self - stop whining **

you're a good egg... (one of those expensive fancy good for you omega 3 eggs not the cheap generic eggs)

Hi! wow, you've got a great body! :D
It's so strange to read about someone that want to gain weight! :p anyway, I really appreciate how you respect us: too many fit people laugh at our attempts to lose weight. The way you treat us and help us says a lot about you: you're a great person.
