Journey, Not A Destination

Well first I think it's important to indentify why you lost your hunger for the gym. Any thoughts?

Second, why go to failure every single day on a few exercises? What do you hope to get out of that?

Third, I'm not a fan of the upright row. It can really bugger up shoulders.

I took a couple days to think about why I lost my hunger for the gym. I think its just my assumptions that what im doing at home is sufficient, and its not necessary to drive 14 miles round trip to the closest gym. Save for dead lifts and compound rows because im ill equipped

As for the body weight routine... I admit that was completely from the hip with no training knowledge or research whatsoever :) as the ability to do them is relatively new to me :)

Upright rows did aggravate my shoulders I'm droppin those.

Yo Steve! You read anything about this Folstaxan stuff? The myostatin inhibitor? You think it's something to get excited about or just a bunch of garbage?

I'm guessing you'll go with the latter... just curious as to your thoughts.

Steve, I thought you might enjoy this as I think we had a discussion about Bolt's Olympic run.

Haha, I've seen that. I often read a sprint forum and there's all kinds of stuff on there about Bolt. The forum is actually operated by a former gold medalist of the 100's coach.

Here's the thing. Losing desire to train can be a huge indicator of overtraining. So maybe dropping back the intensity a bit for a while will do you some good.

As you know, growth occurs after the gym. It occurs when stress is 'relieved' from the body.

Funnily enough, I've seen this plenty of times, where people bust ass in the gym for a number of weeks or months. The eventually reach a point where they're overreached or overtrained and they lose their hunger or are smart enough to back off. They move to either active rest or a much different sort of routine, like you with your calisthenics.

During this transition period, many times people wind up getting stronger or bigger (muscle). They were pounding their bodies so hard they never got the chance to respond appropriately. Remove the stress, and PRESTO, things improve significantly.

That's just a general observation and makes some sense given what we know about the body.

That said though, I much prefer to be smarter about my training. I rarely train to the point where I'm worn down or lose my hunger to train. I manage things better than that. I'll ramp my intensity up over a given number of weeks, at which point I'll drop back down and possibly change some things for a week or two to allow the stress to subside.

Then I start over with a slightly modified approach.

You have to remember that adaptation doesn't occur unless you overload the system. I'm not saying overload can't happen with calisthenics, b/c it certainly can. However, it's much tougher to do.

If you'd like, we could take a look at exactly what you were doing and I can suggest how I would modify it.

To be honest, I haven't read the stuff about Folstaxan. I've been reading/researching myostatin and the inhibition of it in animals and even humans for a while. It's a very interesting subject. It's not, however, something I have my hopes up for simply b/c I don't hope to get massive like that.

I mean, check out those pictures of cows, pigs, dogs etc. I've seen photos of guys that supposedly were doing some sort of myostatin inhibition and were freaky big and veiny.

That's just not my cup of tea.

But you better believe that if they come out with something like Folstaxan, everyone and their grandmom (anyone interested in easy hypertrophy) are going to be buying this shit.

I'm simply not a fan of supps. And even if I were, knowing what I know and seeing what I see, I'd give each supp a year or two before buying it. a) it gives it time to work out any kinks and b) if it lasts that long, you have a better grasp of whether or not it's worth trying.

Supps promising awesome shit come and go like there's no tomorrow.

Good afternoon! Hope you're having a great day :D

Good news: last night my friend Chris was assisting me with some Yoga poses, and I was determined to heal my inner knee strain that was present for the past 3 months: last night I had him push on my lower back while I exhaled, slowly slowly, until I reached this: It was intense, and I needed his help, but was happy I finally can do that again! Hmmm. It took consistency, attention, discipline, and relaxing to do it. And I went slow over the past few weeks until I finally got it. Yay!! SOMEDAY I swear I'll try Self-Myofascial Release ;).

Steve,
Reading the tread 5 things and saw you planned on climbing MT washington. Did you ever climb and how was it? I will get to the top of that Mt. I am absolutley fascinated with hiking but have never done it. I was always to big to do it and now i plan on doing a 4k footer next month. cant wait!!

Also, their is a book called Not Without Peril and it is about all the people that have died on that mount. Interesting read.

That just looks painful!

Glad your knee is feeling better.

Yo Matt....

We did the Presidential Traverse. You can easily find what that is if you google it. It was by far the most physically demanding thing I've ever done in my life. It got to the stage where I had to think about and contemplate every single step. Every step was accompanied by tremendous fatigue and cramping.

If you just climb Mt. Washington, it won't be as bad. We hit some rough patches too... why don't you read what happened here, you can also check out some of the pics I took:

We're actually talking about doing it again in February. We want to do a winter trek for Gordy's bachelor party. So far the only ones brave (stupid) enough to do it are Gordy and I though.

TGIF is right!

Thanks for stopping by.

Tonight I'm supposed to go to a bachelor party. It sounds like it's going to be postponed now though, which would be nice. Although I was looking forward to it, lol. It was going to be mighty interesting.

I have a black guy marrying my cousin. He is from Harlem. All his buddies from back home were going to come down this way to party. Now where I live is by no stretch of the imagination a hick town. It is however, extremely different from Harlem.

I would have loved to see the reactions of his friends when they saw the night life here.

Tomorrow morning I am either going golfing or I am setting up for this big party my buddy is throwing.

The party starts at 2 and should be a lot of fun... get to see a ton of people I don't ordinarily get to see.

If you and Gord go climbing Mt. Wash in Feb. I hope you have a good life insurance policy in place..lmao. Seriously, you wouldn't want to leave Krista with a big mortgage and a dead husband. That would not be good. And who would be here to give sage advice if you were gone?? :( Just do it in July. :D

I am supposed to be getting insurance soon. I've been waiting for this house thing to pass.

I've actually heard that climbing in the winter is easier in terms of terrain. It's easier to walk on snow then the rocks that are exposed in the warmer months.

It's the weather conditions that are brutal.

I've heard you can throw hot water into the air and it turns to snow before it hits the ground.

Besides, I heard a rumor... in order to kill Steve, you actually need to remove his head from his body.

There can be only one....

Hahaha...

This is fact, not fiction.

What's good Keith?

Doing what I can with what I've got. In a very positive and happy place right now, despite my desire to REALLY shed the loose skin/fat issue in my stomach. It's going to take time and I am willing to put in that effort and mindset. I understand there will be negative days... I just need to fight through that as best as possible. Oh yeah... also thinking about going back to the EC for a cycle...

How's life by you?

YOu so do not want to be in new hampster in July -the black flies will make you wish for subzero temps and wearing nothing but your skivvies :D
