Journey, Not A Destination

It felt like a freezer too, that I promise you.

My best quote from me as I sat in that room with my bare feet hovering over the ice:

"Gordy, are you fucking retarded? If we stay in here overnight there is no amount of snuggling that is going to keep us alive in this death trap. We're walking straight down this fucking mountain in the dark. I'll use my pack as a sled if I have to."

No lie, lol.

LOL. I dont blame you for saying that. Its a good thing you guys got into the cabin and made a man sandwich to keep you warm. How surreal it must have been to wake up to all the beauty of Mother Nature, when you were almost destroyed the day before. Its funny that you guys casually walked out amongst other hikers and continued your journey. I would have took off with that one guy on the train for sure. Heck, I would probably still be up there in the snow somewhere frozen. It's amazing what your body can do when you are trying to survive though. At least you didn't have to drink each others pee. LOL JK :puke:

I know a guy who got stranded in the Australian outback and DID have to drink his pee to stay alive!! :puke: He's a crazy Canuck who has the most amazing true stories of his travels in Asia. That man should write a book.

I would have ate snow before I drank pee!

Walking out amongst the other hikers was hilarious. Strange too. I felt like they didn't deserve to climb Mt. Washington.... they didn't 'pay the price' we did. They started at the foot of that mountain and walked up from there.

I know that's illogical, but it's what I felt at the time.

That's nuts... and I hope I don't ever find myself in that predicament. Though the stories that come with it are good, lol.

So it's time to get myself back into gear. This past week and weekend was pretty much a free-for-all. The mountain hike really took it out of me, mentally and physically. I have never been sore for that long a period of time. I was pretty concerned too.... my big toes were extremely numb up until 2 days ago. They seem to be getting some sensation back now.

This weekend has been very nice. Friday night I stayed in with Krista and simply relaxed. We ordered food from this fantabulous Italian place down the street... I had some chicken parm and it was excellent.

Saturday I spent the entire day helping my buddy build a deck at his house. More like our buddy who builds things for a living built the deck and I ran around doing the little things he asked like, "hand me that tool," or "nail these things in here." lol

That night Gordy came down and a bunch of us went out to this awesome bar/restaurant called the Tiki Bar. They have good beers and amazing food. The cool thing is you cook your own food there. They have these huge grills all over the place. You simply go order your food.... and they have good meats like bore and gator.... prepare it yourself and sit and eat. The setting is just very cool... there's a stream running right next to where you eat. I enjoyed myself. Drank beers all day too. I was pissed to find my buddy had bought Bud Light Lime for us helping build his deck. I almost didn't drink it but it got hot quick and I caved.

When I got to the bar that night, I was ordering Chimay by the bottle. For those who know, it's an expensive beer, lol. Really good though! I had to make up for that piss I drank earlier.

Today I plan on enjoying the weather a bit. Might go for a bike ride. Definitely doing some agility work out in the field behind my house sometime. I believe my parents are having us over for dinner tonight too.

All in all, excellent weekend though I made no progress on the site yet again.

Welll June was an ambitious plan... and real life matters too... you'll get it done... when it gets done..

You just signed yourself up for the next trip. :p
Well, as much as I'd love hanging out with a bunch of young, hot men--I'd rather it were in a bar or someplace warm so that my nipples were hard b/c of a reason other than it was colder than the Antarctic. :D

I did a few climbs in Korea that were pretty physically tasking for me back in the 90s. I always found the descent harder. One of the climbs was with 2 German guys and a Korean guy. NO there was no orgy at the top...unfortunately..lmao. That Korean guy was amazing. He could've run up the damn mountain. Now mind you this mountain was not of the magnitude of Mt. Wash. On the way down, it was really muddy and I kept slipping in it. One of the Germans thought this was very funny and kept taking pics of me. He's lucky I didn't break his bloody camera. :cuss: It was winter, and when I got home, I was beat. Then our apt heat went off for the rest of the weekend, and my leg muscles got cold and were just killing me. Bad timing. Needless to say, I lived to tell the story...:smilielol5: Yes, I'm a big wuss. :D

So that Bud lime sucked eh? I saw that in the store and wondered if it tasted any better than the regular Bud shit does. :D

Glad your toes are starting to get some feeling back into them. That's a relief. :)

I busted my ass on my hike more times than I can remember, so don't sweat it, lol. I almost slid down an entire mountain side the one spill. It's tough going.... and the way down was easier for me... but most of the others were complaining more on the way down than up.

I don't drink Bud, so I'm sure my mind was doing some stuff there. However, I will say it was refreshing while we were building the deck. It was real hot out and the sun was beating down on us... the lime taste was good.

From my experiences hiking (on nice sunny days :D - uphill requires a lot more cardio endurance.. downhill is all about the leg muscles... becuase (i think anyhow) your legs are working hard to keep your speed under control... with as strong as your legs are -I don't imagine that's ever be an issue...

hope your monday is off to a good start...

That's a good critique there, Mal. I think you're dead on, to be honest. My endurance sucked the entire hike. I had no problem with power/strength.

Yesterday was a great day. I took the top and doors off my jeep and Krista and I went for a long drive. We went to Hopewell Park, which is a beautiful park near me with trails, lakes, etc. Spent the entire day taking in the beautiful weather.

I love this time of year.

I'd love to do a re-write on this ..

my way is more fun - but - glad you had a nice day... :D

Hahahaha, though it sounds fun... it's far from the truth. I'm not much a fan of humping in the woods. I'm particular. Not saying I haven't done it.

Hear Hear! Seriously!! I would have been running out yelling help, only to have the other hikers looking at me like a crazy person. lol Surely they did not know the force of that mountain. You guys surely did 'pay the price' that day and night. I'm sure it changed your whole outlook on life.

Yes I agree, snow is better than pee. I still can't believe you guys climbed the next day, true die hards!

I don't know if it's urban legend or not -but what I was always told was never eat snow in the winter (short o f sugar on snow when you're in a nice toasty warm cabin)

The amount of energy it would take your body to convert the snow to liquid - would expend too many calories and it would contribute to hypothermia.. your own pee is fairly sterile and won't do you any harm to drink it... if it came down to it...

Pee is better than snow...

Good to know. I'd hope I never find myself in that situation again, but at the rate our planning is going.... it's certainly a possibility, lol.

That would be awesome if you would join us in Vegas! There are definitely a handful of us already committed to going. :) By then I should have the last of my 20lbs gone and should be ready to par-tay...It will also be a couple weeks after my marathon so I should be fully recovered and ready to get my groove on. haha
