Journey, Not A Destination

Thanks Ali!

I've actually been training part-time. I never really stopped that since college. For some reason though, I feel a need to get back in a gym. Plus, if something were to happen to my finance job before my new business is entirely off the ground, it would be nice to have the constant flow of traffic being affiliated with a gym would provide as a trainer.

Plus, last time I trained for a gym, I was just a 'pup' lol.

I think I could make some big differences now in terms of the training programs.

I know I've read tidbits about this new business you are starting, but I don't know enough to create a really educated discussion, but I was just thinking (wondering), and this is if you will be doing nutrition/training with your own business... will you have to sign some form of agreement that you can't work with those people you train at this gym because essentially you'll be taking business from them from the relationships you form there?

Perhaps this really is a stupid question because I don't know enough about what all you are planning from your business (so, if this is the case, sorry).

I see how the training aspect would be great to list for your credentials again too.

Based on what I see from you around here...I can imagine you are a fierce trainer...any gym would be lucky to have you, believe me.

Appreciate it. :)

Did you have to deal with that mess on 95 in your travels yesterday?

Thank goodness no!

Fortunately we snuck into the city after the morning rush and amazingly made it out of the city at 5:15 pm without touching our brakes once. The jam going into the city was amazing though.... worse I've ever seen.

That's something else we need to discuss. My parter is the head trainer at a huge training facility outside of Philly and he's running into some problems unfortunately.

They way I'm pitching it to this manager is like this:

I have a reputable name online and in the real world. There will be a high amount of traffic to my site. The chance that it's someone local to the area, I'll train them through the gym.... so it's free publicity for your facility.

If he can't take that as my word then that's fine by me. This business is my heart and soul and I'm not about to stop it for some second rate training job that I don't need financially. He either wants it or he doesn't.

I only see it as a benefit to his gym but my view is jaded by my own intentions and confidence.

We'll see.

Not a stupid question at all, actually.

To be honest.... I'm not too concerned about my 'credentials.' At all.

The way I look at it is people either want to pay for my intellect or they don't. If they don't, that's fine by me. But I have enough fires burning that I don't 'need' to entice anyone at this stage in the game. I'm sure that sounds awful, but it's how I feel. I think it stems from the extreme amount of time other 'trainers' spend on enticing clients to sign up with them. I'm a contrarian.

That said, I'm certainly going to do my best to make my site appealing to the eye and sell the truth. If people buy it, they buy it.

Even IF social security is still there, it's not going to be enough to cover the needs/expenses for that period of time.
the last social security statement I got - has my payment at about 1600 a month if I retire at age 70 - if I retire at age 65 it's considerably less a nd that's if I still make what I'm currently making or more and work until I'm 70 - I've been paying into social security longer than you've been alive ... not really a good return on my investment :D

I definitely agree about your reputable name, and you definitely have a wealth of knowledge and I know you will succeed whatever you do. Thanks for being such a valuable contributor here, I have definitely have learned a lot from you and your posts! :cheers2:

Haha, it's all we have at the moment. But that's a prime example of why accepting some of the burden of saving for retirement is a necessary for the individual investor. Things like 401k plans are extremely under-utilized, yet, incredibly important.

I'm glad to hear that. Frankly, that's what I love. Not just helping people reach their goals.... but helping them be an informed consumer of trainers, diets, programs, etc, etc.

Thanks very much... means a lot.

Oh wow.

Should I turn it off now?

lol.

If you turn off your rep, are you still able to receive and read comments?

yup you can - you just don't show the green bars anymore - it shows gray like mine :D

But you can read comments in either the moderator tool (doesn't show what post it's attached to though)- or just go back into your control panel and turn them back on temorarily and then turn them back off.

Turning off rep really only benefits those who have lots of negative rep and they get the r ed bars.. :)

I'm trying for red rep :) I think that'd be oh so cool :D

Very true, the red bar would be fitting considering the name.

I don't think I'll turn the rep feature on at my forum.

I mean, I think a lot of people like them and the last thing I want is to drive people away from my forum.

But at the same time, it creates clicks.

Not cool.

It is used as a way to show distaste for another poster and I like to keep things out in the open.... you have a problem with someone's information or something of the sort.... say it. Or PM it.

And my least favorite.... it gives a jaded view of who actually knows their stuff. I have the highest rep here, but I could be a fumbling buffoon for all anyone knows. Yet, they'll listen to me b/c of how much rep I have. It takes away from unbiased thinking.

Hey, as long as you're in the popular click, that's all that matters. Nothing else in life is more important. :biggrinjester:

I could be a fumbling buffoon for all anyone knows.

Oh, we all know you are. That secret's been out for quite awhile. You just forgot to add that you're a hairy, makini-wearing fumbling buffoon. :D

I'm just saying all that b/c I'm jealous of all your damn rep. You know what a rep whore I am...:blush5:

Bow down to the king.

:p

agreed the rep thing is annoying, its like a popularity contest that i just cant be bothered with.
On the plus side, it amazes me that people keep giving me rep as if i did something extra special even though i never give it back! Wonder if i could sell reputation? or even sign up 20 accounts just to reputate each other for fun :D
