Journey, Not A Destination

Man, Dallas is good.... I wish we could have worked things out with TO.

Good? Damn straight!

This is about the first time I have seen Dallas GOOD since I originally became a fan lol.

Yeah, eagles did well. Mcnabb(sp) did surprisingly well.

Also, who could forget about the packers! Bret is still kick ass when most players his age in are damn wheelchairs. The Cowboys VS packers will be an awesome game. Especially if both teams win out for the next two weeks.

Hey Steve(career counselor lol), I think I'm going try for medical school. :)

Hey Steve(career counselor lol), I think I'm going try for medical school. :)

Let me respond to this first;

I think that's some damn good news Trevor. You've got a good head on your shoulders and you're driven to learn. This coupled with your motivation would serve you very well in the med school setting.

You've worried me the few times we've talked about this with the things you say such as:

- That much schooling would be too expensive
- I'm not a fan of school that much, can't imagine being there that long

etc, etc.

Truth be told, your perspective will change with age. That type of schooling has no resemblance of the type of schooling you are in now. It's a lot more fun and rewarding. I can't stress that enough.

I think a great number of people take the attitude of "that would be too hard," or "that would take too long," or "that would cost too much." And in the end, once everything's all said and done.... they wake up with regrets. I've been there myself.

I think choosing a field you have a passion and love for no matter what is one of the biggest decisions one will make in his or her life. I'm glad to see you aren't taking it lightly.

Yea, they're are definitely fun to watch.

I'll take the win. :)

He has all my respect.... I'm happy for him even though I'm not a Packers fan. He's a stand up guy and deserves to go out on a high note.

What's crackalackin', biznatch?

I still have a cold and I have the chills. But I can breath better today.... so hopefully I'm on the mend!

What's crackalackin' with you? Going to strip for the old men at the gym again today? Also, what gym do you train at and at what time?.... I want to get a guest pass.

And the chills? Are you sure you don't have a cold AND the flu? You need to be at home resting, homeboy.

Hey for your information, I saw the "old man" today and he brought me a cupcake. haha! It was cute, but I gave it to one of the staff members when he wasn't looking. I told them I was "watching my calories," but in reality, people do weird things... like put a piece of their hair in food with the thoughts of, "Now you're a part of me! Muahahaaaa!" I'm not willing to take that chance.

Why? So you can point out my flaws and say, "You're doing it wrong, dummy." HA! jk

Thanks Steve! :)

Yeah, The thought of that much school really scared me. Until, I realized I already study all of the related subjects on my own every day. If I'm going to go to school for anything it might as well be something that I'm interested/passionate about. Now the thought of that much school is somewhat attractive ;).

I still have not a clue how I could afford it. I suppose I'll have to live with my family at least until I reach residency(when they pay you to learn, average 40-55K).

I've done quite a bit of research into ALL the possible career choices. This is the most difficult, but the most rewarding and the one that I think I would be best at.
It allows me to be in a position to help others and my own family.

So, I think its the best choice.

I know the only reason I would fell is if I simply don't apply myself and try. I have a tendency not to push myself. I suppose I'll have to correct that ;).

So, my short term goals are.
Continue myself education on the subjects so I can be much further ahead then my "competitors". Of course, I enjoy doing it in my freetime so thats not a problem. ;)
To finish my senior year in high school.
I need to volunteer in a medical facility of some sort. This is very important from what I read when applying to medical schools.
Apply and take the first year or two of my bachelors in community college (the most affordable way) than transfer those credits to finish the last two years of my bachelors.
I MUST maintain a near perfect record ( grade wise and so on).

I know someone who is trying to become an RN. He is taking the anatomy/biology "pre" test, The one you have to take to even be accepted to start in the correct major, He failed it with a 30 out of a 100.
He showed it to me and I would have easily been able to pass it.
He than asked If I would take it for him. I explained how if he is going to be in the medical industry and in charge of patients health. Than he should likely know this stuff lol.

And the chills? Are you sure you don't have a cold AND the flu? You need to be at home resting, homeboy.

The chills just started today.... but I feel better than before. So I don't know what's going on. I'm going to the gym tonight to sweat it out.

Who the fuck brings a cupcake to the gym for some chick who flaunts her panties.

Yea, I'd steer clear.

Oh, haha, and that hair shit is gross.

Why? So you can point out my flaws and say, "You're doing it wrong, dummy." HA! jk

Yea, duh.

Why else would I come?

Haha - same here, I often times won't even touch those " free sample" stands in the grocery stores for just about the same reason...

Exactly.

I didn't realize how much I loved the act of learning until I got to college. I mean, I was reading some pretty heavy material in high school.... but it wasn't clear why. I had a passion for the human body and for exercise.... but I was learning because of that.

Once I got to college and had a lot more free time on my hands and was independent..... that's when things blossomed. That's when I realized a lot about myself and ran with it. Just don't lose sight of who you are and what you want out of this life.....

If you want to help people, do something you love, and make good money all simultaneously...... becoming an MD is perfect.

I'd take some time and write down the pros and cons of the profession. There are cons with any profession.... and being an MD is no different. Stress, a lot of work, tons of responsibility, on call..... ya know.... there's a lot to consider. And I'm not saying you couldn't handle these things.... just giving you some outside perspective.

I still have not a clue how I could afford it. I suppose I'll have to live with my family at least until I reach residency(when they pay you to learn, average 40-55K).

I'd apply for any and all scholarships you can. Look into financial aid too.....

Many people who become doctors didn't go to school rich. I have a friend that just graduated from ivy league law.... university of penn.....

She's left with a ton of debt. But she's also going to be making a ton of 'bank' doing something she really enjoys...... so it was worth it. Having a fear of debt can't be something you let hold you back in life.

Yeah, the pros and cons thing I'll do for sure. I do know that in 2004 one third of all MD's worked 60hours or more a week.

The fear of debt is there for me. Its not enough to hinder my stride, though.

I'm leaning towards family medicine which is a 3 year intern/resident program. After your bachelors of course, Although, I'm not sure what I would specialize in yet.

I like the idea of family medicine (general medicine) as it would allow me to take a more "personal" approach. Talk more with patients about lifestyle changes (nutrition/activity/exercise/ and so on). I'm not a fan of this nations belief that a pill fixes everything. To many times doctors prescribe and treat symptoms instead of correcting (as best as possible) the actual problem. I believe prescriptions and surgery should be the last resort(but done when needed of course). Not the first thing we turn to as seems to be common place.

there was an article in JAMA recently about the desperate need for doctors who specialize in family medicine... too many doctors aren't going into that field because the money seems to be in real specialties... but in 10 - 15 years that might all change...

Investigate Osteopathy as a specialty...

Damn site, I wrote out a response to this. However, when I clicked post it sat....and sat...and sat some more. Until it timed out. So all that writing went away...

To summarize what I was saying.

Haha - I think the "bank" that family doctors make is more than enough and very nice at that.
I think anyone who enters the medical field squarely for the money has no right to be in charge of other peoples health.

Thanks for mention the "O.P." doctors. They sound interesting (I'v read many pages about them since I read your post lol). I'm not going to make up my mind right now or anytime soon, as I don't have to and it would be foolish. ;)

If I may so ask. Have you ever been to one? What was your experience with one if you have gone?

Ummm I didn't "flaunt" my panties, thank you very much. My sweats (sexy, right?) were falling down and I was trying to hold them up in the front. As for the cupcake.. it was in a ziploc container and he made it 'special' for me aka he "mushroom stamped" it with his approval before he put the frosting on it! LMAO!!

Oh, haha, and that hair shit is gross.
Yah... I'm kinky... but not that kinky.

Yea, duh.

Why else would I come?
So you can stand infront of the mirrors and kiss your own guns? I can picture it now.... you talking to your arms, "Hey there, buff muffins. Look at you, looking all cut. Awww yes... the ladies love you, boys... as do I."

Hey... btw... I was wondering....

what kind of socks do you wear? :D HA!

The son of good friends of my parents, is a DO (first rate education paid for by the chAir Force... that is one method of getting the money for school -I think Joe spent about 10 years in Germany as part of his pay back... if you're really concerned about financing your education - don't overlook the military)

Anyhow, when i've run into him at funerals and the occassional family thing - his treatment of patients is interesting - it's about treating the entire person and not just working symptoms... It's a little new agey for me but it's a interesting field, one that's becoming more common... especially in family practice
