Join The FSD!

I don't know about you guys..but I am getting a bit nervous for the Friday weigh in day. I just guessed at 145 when I started..because, honestly, I haven't weighed myself in awhile...and it scares me!!! I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Hey, I have a HUGE obstacle this weekend. We are having a really really big party for my grandfather's 80th birthday..like 70 people at my house...a ton of food (finger sandwiches, cheese, all catered) and cake...and alcohol..etc etc. I don't drink alcohol, so that won't be a problem..but, I love party food...not chips..but, the sandwiches and the CHEESE! haha!!! I have to remain strong ya know?

Okay, talk to y'all later!

Sarah

I know it is a bit of a cliche, but they say to eat something filling but healthy before you go, as it is supposed to stop you eating the unhealthy stuff at the party. However, I think this is based on the idea that people only eat when they are hungry, which for someone like me is completely false!!:D It may help a bit though. Or just give yourself a day off. Say you are going to have a treat but not over do it and get back on the healthy diet the next day. I think if I tried to resist nice food for a whole party while having to watch other people enjoy it, I would either end up giving in before the end of the party and going nuts, or I would buy something on the way home. Maybe a bit of everything in moderation is the best way to go ;) . That's my plan for my birthday. I will go for a meal, have salad and salmon which I really like (very healthy!) and then have a nice dessert (very yummy!!:D ), and try not to let the taste of sugar make me stop off on the way home.

Good luck for Friday, I'll see you here :D

Hey, this is a fantastic idea Avi2Kat and Losing Cleo! Mind if I join? I'd love to be able to be part of a group weigh in. I'll even change my ticker (ah-haha... yea, scales make me nervous...) This'll be the first time I've weighed myself for a long time, so I'll have a good idea on how much I need to lose.

SarahL, my current, I quote, "diet" I'm having two very small meals a day, and one normal one. The two meals are just under 200 kcal each, so if you do that for breakfast and lunch, you'll be sorted. And make sure you do have breakfast if you normally don't as it'll keep you going til party time. Then it is a big question of self control, and moderation. Though if the cheese is too tempting, you can rest easy in the knowledge that your total intake will be at around 400 kcal, maybe less, you'll be OK for about 1100 kcal worth of party food (well, depending on what your current intake is.) Good luck though! And don't forget to have fun :)

Mrs Bear, you're a Beardy owner! He/she's gorgous! We got one about 8 months ago, he's fab!

Oh yeah guys...the party is at MY HOUSE...lol! I'll try to be good. I have some hoodia...I haven't used that the way I should have..I try not to take any diet pills, but..ya know, if something can be an appetite suppressant on that day, it will help!

Hopefully I will be too busy making sure everything is going well to forget to do any of the normal 'going to a party' socializing. I have my house to worry about, my kids, my pets...haha...I have a wild Scottie that will need to be a bit tame that day..hah...she is just a sweetie who wants to kiss everyone...and that isn't good for the 'non dog lovers' (do those exist? lol)

Thanks for the suggestions!

Im in! I only want to weigh in every other Friday but I can still join right :) I am scared of scales, I get discouraged extremellyyyy easily, so if two weeks go by and even if I have only lost 2 lbs I will be happy with that.

Wow, Bronski, it is so nice to hear from another Beardy owner  . Ours is a boy called Buster, or Rooney, or Looney (We love nick names in our house :D ). He was very sick at the beginning of the year (he had a blockage which is more often than not fatal!!) but he is back to 110% health. We have started letting him run around the house and he is adorable ... we are obsessed with seeing where he will go and what he will do next. Better than TV :D . What is your Beardy's name?

I read yesterday that it is good to weigh no more than once a week, because when your body burns off fat, the fat cells immediately fill with water to help prevent drooping and sagging skin. The water is gradually squeezed out, giving your skin time to shrink as the size of the fat cells decreases. But, that means you are staying about the same weight until the water is removed.

That explains why you might go for days on a plateau - even though you are eating right and exercising - and then suddenly drop a couple of pounds or more. The plateaus are a good thing - although extremely frustrating when you are working your butt off to burn the fat - because they give your body time to catch up with your weight loss.

I also ready that something like 90% of the water retained in the fat cells is removed while you are lying down, thus the importance of getting enough horizontal time - or sleep! I don't know why this would be so, but it sure explains why I have to get to the bathroom so fast some mornings!!!

Okay, anyway, I thought you weekly weighers might find some of that interesting. I sure did. I have decided to go ahead and join now. I will weigh this Friday. See you then! Good luck everyone!!!

Yay! Do I get added to the magical and whimsical list of whimsy? I like being on lists :)

Mrs Bear, Buster/Rooney/Looney is fab! I'm so glad he was able to recover. Ours is called Vincent; he originally came with his brother, Jules, who was the dom of the pair. But being put in a new enviroment, the two started fighting for dom status. When blood was drawn we took the more aggressive (and also more bleeding) one back to the pet shop. It wasn't fair on the two of them. Vince is quite happy now. I love watching him eat crickets, though he never seems that bothered if it's me feeding him...

In a strange, sick way, I'm kind of looking forward to friday. Then I can really kick off my weight loss plan, knowing how much I weigh. Though I don't doubt there'll be tears. There always is!

ETA: Just looked at my ticker doofer, and it's days until I get on the scales, and I have a fish... with scales! Ahahaha...ha...ha... just me then?

Twinmom, that is so interesting. I never knew that and it does make it a lot easier to accept those plateuas. And it makes a lot of sense aswell.

Bronski, I'd love to see a pic of Vincent!! Ours loves locusts, but at the moment he's gone all veggy and is eating mostly brocolli. It must be my healthy eating rubbing off :D or maybe he is growing up, aaawwww ;)

I haven't managed to stay off the scales, but I put that down to the fact that I had retained a ton of water due to poor diet last week, and I have been watching that come off. Already dipped down to 12st 13lbs from 13st 3lbs after the weekend (4lbs in 48 hrs - it is definitely water!!) so I am glad I started my ticker at 13 st. But I promise that after Fridays weigh in, I WILL give the battery to my husband and get him to only give it back the following Friday!! Otherwise, what is the point of me joining this club

Mrs Bear, will definitely put some pictures up, maybe in my little diary thready bit. Thing is, the best pictures are all on my phone, and we gave our working dongle to someone. We got a new one but it won't work  But once I find a magic way of doing it, will definitely post a pic of Vince!

Well done on the weight loss so far! I know the feeling, I really wanted to get on the scales this morning, but I knew that after eating breakfast, even though it was only a 30g bowl of cereal, it would all end in tears. Plus, joining here means that when I'm at X many kilos I can come here for virtual hugs... The scales and I have a very, very bad relationship. Once again, I blame the judo...

After would be lighter because you will have sweated a lot of water out of your system. However, you would have to consistently weigh after cardio everytime, otherwise your weight might go up again slightly once you weigh fully hydrated.

I can't imagine not weighing my self for a long period of time. As depressing as it is to see weight go on, I would feel exactly like you do, Bronski, at the prospect of getting back on the scales. Fear of the unknown is very powerful.

And if its hugs your after, then here is a good luck (((HUG))) for Friday! :D And (((HUGS))) to the rest of the FSD club!! And remember, whatever the scales say, we have all worked very hard. Some days you falter, but others you succeed magnificently. This is a hard road to travel, but we'll do it together!

I don't know what came over me then! I'll have to get a set of pompoms for next week :D

All gym trainers say NEVER weigh after working out! All of them! Even when I tried a few times they wouldn't let me! :)

YAY!! I'm on the list! And I'm fantastic too! Thank you thank you thank you Avi2Kat!

On the weighing front, I can see both sides of the argument. You'll have lost water through sweat, maybe even driven away some calories (would that help?) but on the other hand, water comes back, and it's an irregular time to do so.

My judo coach always weighed us after training. Ah, good times... actually, no not really! It would all end in tears! So personally, I'd say weigh in after either. Though like Avi2Kat said in the first post, in the AM is the best time, after piddles and before eats.

Thank you for the hugs Mrs Bear *hugs!* And that speech was very moving, I'm getting pretty excited and hyped up about getting on the scales now. I just need to find them now...

I guess the fear of "oh-my-goodness-I-remember-when-I-was-X-many-kiograms" adds to the excitement. I'd like to be back to the ol' judo weight, though I have a feeling that'll be a very, very long journery. Well, it may not be, I'll find out tomorrow. I guess we'll all find out how we're doing tomorrow.

So if I manage to go all next week without going on the scales, do I get let off being the little scale devil? :D

Bronsk, do you think that being weighed by your coach may have started you off thinking about your weight, and caused weight gain (like people who think they are overweight but are not, starve a couple of pounds off and then enter the yo-yo cycle!), or was it not connected to that at all?

Heehee, here at the FSD, we rid ourselves of the scale demons :p

I'm not sure Mrs Bear, I've always been overweight. I'm going to waste up my cliched excuses... now; it runs in the family! My dad's overweight, his parents were both overweight, my brother's overweight... So even though mum always looked out for my brother and I, I never got to be as skinny as the other girls.

I guess my coach had it in my best competing interests. Weight catagories are stupid; the top weight catagory for girls was +70 kg, so that's about +154 lbs for the less metric! I'm awquard! And anything above 70 kg was put in that catagory. At the Nationals, I was put with a beast who must have been about 160 odd, she was miles and miles bigger in all directions. Then there's me, high 70s! I didn't last!!

So I mean, it was always in his best interests to make sure I was in a lower catagory, so I wouldn't have to fight the big girls. I touched 69kg once, but never for a competition.

I've always been overweight, especially for my height (5ft 1 - haha, I weigh in metric and measure in imperial) And that's the story of my life! Well, not quite...

Bronsk

Am I on the list? I can't see it for some reason...this computer won't let me see some things...it is strange! I need to rid the computer of demons!

How is everyone today? We had a wild WILD night last night here in Ohio...thought the roof was going to blow off...and my 5yr old and 3 yr old were up in tandem all night long...so, I have bags under my eyes today!

It took me awhile to wander on over here, but I'm in for this. :). Yay for weighing in.

(Not really.)

As long as I never enter the 140's again.

Heyo everybody!

SarahL, wow, sounds like you had a fun night! There's nothing better than a content smile with the eye bags. It just makes everyone around you very jealous :D

Not long now... Again, looking forward to it, but not at the same time. Kind of like when you perform in a show; the excitement of performing but the stage nerves that come with it.

If I don't return later, I wish everyone good luck!
