Kasey's weightloss Diary

Hmmm where to start, where to start. Let’s see. My name is Kasey. I am a 23yr. old mother, girlfriend, combat veteran, sport bike rider living in Florida. I am in the middle of my journey to losing weight. My baby baggage I call it.

Growing up I was a very chubby kid. If I can remember correctly when I was 14yrs old I weighed 181 and im 5’3” [I was shorter when I was 14 so you can imagine]. Honestly it never really bothered me either that I was overweight until I was in High School. Sadly I was the girl who complained about her weight but never did anything about it. [I will admit, that is a pet peeve of mine now. I hate it when someone complains about being overweight and than 20mins. Later they are chowing down on Burger King] When I was a junior in HS everyone started looking into colleges and all that stuff. Not me, I wanted to join the Military. I went down the local recruiting station with my friend and talked to the recruiter. He than asked me to follow him to the other office where the scale was because he wanted to see how much I weighed. It was sad. Basically I was to fat to join and the recruiter told me to lose the weight and if im still interested in joining than to come back. That day changed me for the rest of my life.

I immediately started eating healthy and dropping all of the sweets and bad food I used to eat and honestly it didn’t bother me one bit! I wasn’t an active person. I couldn’t run no more than 200ft without feeling like I wanted to shrivel up and die. I was so out of shape and I had no one but myself to teach me and get my ass into shape and that’s exactly what I did. I started off power walking everyday after dinner [6-7pm-ish] I walked about 2 miles. Within 2 months the weight started to melt off. Everyone started noticing which made me even more motivated and determined. I than went back to the recruiter and he was utterly shocked that I had actually lost the weight to join on up. He weighed me and CHA-CHING! I was 10lbs UNDER the weight limit for my height to join! I had lost 50lbs in 4.5-5months just by eating healthy and [than] moderate exercise. I went on off to Boot Camp and the rest is History.

I stayed active and healthy and kept the weight off since that day the recruiter told me that I was basically a fat ass. I became a gym regular and loved working out. I never went back to fast food; even to this day I think it’s disgusting. After Boot camp I became obsessed with running. I LOVE to run… I know im weird but it makes me feel so energized and fit! I’m not a fast runner mind you but im an endurance runner… I’m like the energizer bunny. I keep going and going and going. ANYWAYS….

Last May my BF and I found out I was pregnant BIG SURPRISE! Yes it was a complete shock. I have been on BC for 5 years and always took it regularly. He had just gotten back from Iraq and well they weren’t lying when they said that sh*t is potent! I went through a really bad depression while pregnant. I couldn’t believe I was going to have a baby. I also got a glimpse of the future and ALL THE WEIGHT I was going to gain and it made me even MORE depressed.

Fast forward to February 21, 2008. Jayden Michael is born and he is a beautiful healthy 8.15oz baby boy! He is such a little cutie! He left me with 80lbs of excess weight and a saggy belly over a c-section scar. I have come to terms that my stomach will never EXACTLY go back to the way it used to but you better believe I am going to work my ass off to get it somewhat decent because I REFUSE to have surgery to fix it. It already has gone down a lot, but it still has a ways to go.

I wanted to workout so bad after I had my baby but my doctor told me not to because she didn’t want me to do something that would compromise the healing of where I had my c-section. So… I settled with moderate walking, which was alright but I wanted to RUN! I started running 6 weeks after I had him. I now run 3-4 times a week which averages out to be 12-15 miles a week. I also run up and down the bleachers at the High School which is A LOT harder than it looks lol. I am also eating 6 times a day and eating only healthy food. I have lost 50lbs already and im really proud of myself. I have 30 more pounds to lose before I reach my pre-pregnancy weight. I am hoping to lose that weight by October 21 which is my 24th BDay. Once I reach that goal I want to lose another 15lbs.

So won’t you come with me down the weight loss road? My journey to becoming a MILF!

STATS:
Height- 5’3”
Weight [BEFORE BABY]: 155
Weight [WHEN BABY WAS BORN]: 239
Current Weight: 189

Lbs lost in 4months and 1 week: 50

hey Kasey. I so know what you mean about the c-section tummy. UGH. I had 2 c-sections. I bounced back quickly from the first, but the 2nd one....Yuck. a year and a half later and I swear it looks as bad as the day my 2nd was born lol. With both pregnancies, I was about 204 before they were born. I gained like 50ish each pregnancy and they are less than 2 yrs apart

We have similar goals :) I need to lose about 10 lbs more than you though. I'm going to check back in with you soon and see how you're doing and compare it to my progress lol. NOthing like some healthy competition!!!

Good luck, hope you have a great day tomorrow :) and congrats on the weight you've already lost

TGIF!

Im so glad it's Friday! Another day closer to my weightloss goal! This morning I had a half a cup of oatmeal with a half a cup of skim milk [mixed together]. Not the greatest of food but it's BFast! I also had a Banana. I start drinking water once I get to work [which is very soon] and I also take my multi-vitamin everyday.

I have this large water bottle that holds 32oz's of water. My goal is to drink two of those everyday before I leave work because that equals out to be 8/8oz glasses of water. So far I have been doing it, sometimes I even drink more than the two 32oz's.

Im not sure what im going to have for lunch today. I think im going to have a can of Tuna [mixed with about a tablespoon of light Mayo and some pepper] and a banana. That sounds like a good healthy lunch right? I brought dry, oven roasted peanuts to work to have as a snack in between meals.

Tonight if my friend will be working out with me, we will be going to the HS and running sets on the Bleachers. If she doesn't come than I will go to the gym and use the eliptical for 30mins and than the stairmaster for 10 and than a 10min cool down on the treadmill.

Im going to start "upping" my workout routine to get more fit and lean. PLUS I have to work EXTRA hard to get rid of or somewhat get rid of my "Mothers Apron".

Do you have a diary? Since we do have similar goals I wouldn't mind checking out your diary. Like you said... Healthy competition! :cheers2:

Hey hey! TGIF, totally!

Wow, that's so hectic, the military, eek!

I'm just getting into running now... so hopefully addiction sets in :)

Oh, and if you don't like oats too much, try get Oat Bran... make a porridge out of that... more fibre and more creamy! Now that's Bfast!

Lol, ya I know right... but joining did get me out of the house and brought me to sunny Florida where I live 3mins from the Gulf of Mexico! :coolgleamA:

Im almost positive you will get addicted to running. Once your body learns the whole routine, it'll love it!

Hmmm Oat Bran... I'll have to try that. I am going to the Grocery store after work today. Maybe i'll pick some up!

Hi there...I just had to check in as a former marine.

My youngest is now 13 and Im 38..I have on occasion been called a MILF.

I'm trying to lose about 25..It sounds like you are on the right track

So today’s workout is running sets on the Bleachers at the High School. My friend is going to be doing it with me. She is also starting to run with me 3x a week which makes the workout better. This weekend I will probly go to the gym and do some strength training. I went and got a 2yr membership about a month and a half after I had the baby and I went and did cardio there a few times but than my BF’s shift changed and he was working a lot later than normal so I had to stay home and watch Little Man. He didn’t get home until about 8pm and by that time I was putting the baby to sleep and the gym closes at 9pm during the week SO since I haven’t been going to the gym ive been making up for it by running 3-4x a week. I know that strength training is important when you are losing weight but I wanted to drop some weight before jumping right into the weights. Now that I am feeling a lot more energetic and I feel like im getting my old strength back im going to start doing some weights.

I was looking at GNC.COM and noticed a few things I might get. I might buy some fish oil capsules to take everyday with my multivitamin and I was also looking at their meal replacement shakes. I read the shake is suppose to make you not get hungry so quickly before your next meal which will make you eat less at your next meal but I don’t get hungry right now between meals anyways so should I even look into something like this? I eat 6x a day. I eat 3 regular portion size-small portion sized meals for BFast, Lunch and Dinner and 2 snack in between BFast/Lunch and Lunch/Dinner. My snack usually consists of either dry roasted/unsalted peanuts or a Special K 90 Calorie bar.

I think I am going to step it up a bit with my workouts and eating. I think I am going to drop the 90 calorie bars [special k] and incorporate more “natural” foods, like the peanuts and or fruit/veggies.

Here is my breakdown for today.

Breakfast [6:30am]
1 Cup of Quaker oatmeal
½ Cup of Skim Milk
1 Banana
Women’s Multivitamin

[B]Snack [9:30am][/B]
1 Serving [about 40] Dry Roasted/Unsalted Peanuts

[B]Lunch [11:00am][/B]
1 Can of Albacore Tuna
1 Tablespoon of Light Mayo [Mixed in with the Tuna and some Pepper for added flavor]
1 Banana

[B]Snack [2:00pm][/B]
1 Serving of Dry Roasted/Unsalted Peanuts

[B]WORKOUT! [4:30pm][/B]

[B]Dinner [Eating no later than 7:00pm][/B]
I am making home made South Western Vegetable Soup. It basically has tomatos, chilis, green beans, corn and tomato sauce all in it. It’s very good and it’s low in calories.

I also have to add all I drink is water! Fortunately I love water. I drink 64oz’s [sometimes more] a day, everyday. [I]Sometimes[/I] if we go out to eat I will get unsweet tea and add 1 packet of splenda and a lemon wedge but other than that I only drink water. When I was younger I drank all kinds of crap… Soda, Juices, SODA! I’m so happy I broke myself of that habit. When I was pregnant I had a soda every once in awhile but I am back to my old ways now and soda just tastes nasty to me.

Hi there! Sorry if I missed it, but what the heck is a MILF?

:patriot:God bless America, and the soldiers who work hard to keep all of us in North America safe!

I had both my babes by C-section, and can relate to some tummy muscle laxity as a result! Best wishes on your WL journey.

cheers

A MILF is a "Mother I'd Like to F***".... I only mean it sarcastically though lol. I couldn't think of a catchy title and than MILF popped into my head. :)

So yesterday I went to the High School and ran one lap around the track and than did about 4 sets of running the bleachers than ran another lap around the track. It wasn't to to bad only bad part is the fact it gets so hot down here and I like to workout right after I get out of work so the sun is shining right on me when im doing my workout. Oh-well ...makes me sweat more I guess lol.

I did make my Vegetable soup last night but I think I skipped a step and it didn't turn out very well so we ordered from Olive Garden. I however only got a salad [their regular fresh garden salad] and I got the Pasta Fajule [sp?] soup. I only ate about a cup of it though because I didn't want to get over full. For the hell of it I was looking at the Nutrition facts of all their meals last night and the Stuffed Chicken Marsala [the meal I used to get when I was pregnant] has 1350 calories! I about crapped my pants lol. I don't even eat that many calories in one day! Let alone one meal! Oh well... Maybe once I reach my goal weight I will treat myself to a 1350 calorie meal lol.

BFast this morning I had a cup of Fiber One with a Cup of skim milk. It was pretty good. Not sure what I will have for lunch today. Probly Tuna again.

Thanks!

Yup, Link in my signature :)

Holy hell. If I ran up the bleachers just a few steps I'd keep over lol. On the protein shakes, I loved loved them....until I noticed the one I got has like 36 grams of fat in it :( but only 210 cals and 52 grams of protein. Too bad about the fat, but that's way too much. there's no way I could limit the rest of my fat intake from everything else to like 10 grams of fat. Hopefully there are better protein shakes out there, or maybe one can be made. That shake kept me full for 3-4 hrs and was such a convenient way to get in my protein.

oh yummy. Olive Garden soup :ack2: You're killing me over here. Ok, I"m off to eat my Kashi Go lean crunch Cereal :) Have a good weekend

Last night we grilled steaks on the grill [Top Sirloin] I had Josh cut mine in half so my steak was about 6oz's. I also had some steamed broccoli and a little bit of corn. I didn't workout yesterday but I did clean/detail my motorcycle [I had a kawasaki zx6r] With as much grease that was embedded on my wheels, I got a good arm workout out of it. HA

This morning we went out to BFast. I used to get the chicken omlette which came with hashbrowns and toast [I ate that a lot when I was pregnant] but since I had the baby ive been getting oatmeal with just milk and a side of wheat toast, and thats what I had this morning. For lunch today I am probly going to have a can of Tuna Fish and a banana. Dinner tonight me and Josh are riding out somewhere, not sure where but wherever we ride to I will make a healthy choice [like I always do].

On another note I tried linking my Journal in my siggy but it won't let me. It says something like "I have exceeded the 100..... something or other that the site allows"... Does anyone know how I can link it in my siggy without getting that "error"?

My Questions answered

-- How much weight do you want to lose? My first goal was 80lbs. I have lost 50 and I want to lose another 35 before reaching the weight I was before having the baby. Once I reach that weight I want to lose another 15.

-- What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight? I am hoping to reach my pre-pregnancy weight by my 24th BDay [October 21] and than my next goal is to be 125-130 by my son's 1st BDay which is February 21, 2009

-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)? I am running a lot. Running is the one cardio exercise that I love to do because I feel like I get a really REALLY good workout when I go running. I also plan on incorporating weights to tighten and tone all the areas that I am losing weight from, and of course very healthy NATURAL eating [i.e organic type foods vs processed foods]

-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal? Old pictures of me before having the baby AND being able to fit into my CLOSET FULL of pre-pregnancy clothes!

-- How realistic is your goal? I think it is very realistic and who knows with the rate im going maybe ill be 125-130 by MY BDay!

-- When will you start? I started 6 weeks after I had my son. I had a c-section and my doctor was VERY strict on not allowing me to workout until she saw me at my 6wk checkup. After I saw her that day I went and ran that night! I started April 7, 2008

Other questions you might want to consider answering in your diary, to get you started, and avoid that white page writer's block are: (stolen shameless from Geam's diary)

1. What is your current height and weight? I am 5'3" and the last time I weighed myself [about 2 weeks ago] I was 190. I don't like to weight myself a lot because I feel better stretching it out and seeing a "larger" weightloss number on the scale vs 2lbs here and 1lb there
2. If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be? 125-130
3. At what weight would you like to be at four months from now? I am hoping to be at my pre-pregnancy weight of 150-155 [when I was 150 before having him I only had about 17% body fat!]
4. Why do you want to lose weight? Because I want to feel like my oldself again. I want to be able to feel "sexy" like I used to and to be able to fit into all my old clothes [I have a lot of them!]. I want to feel good naked!
5. Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event? Nope, just for my own personal benefit
6. What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals? Nothing at all!
7. Why do you think that you now have a weight problem? Because I gained 80lbs when I was pregnant!
8. What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight? Nothing really. Before I got pregnant I ALWAYS ate healthy and exercised all the time. That was my way of life so I am now returning to how I used to be and live.
9. Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight? Yes when I was 17 I lost 50lbs. Eating healthy foods, lots of water and cardio
10. Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back? N/A
11. What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Why do you think it did not work? It's common sense that eating healthy foods [veggies, lean meats, protien, fruits, lots of water] and regular exercise will result in weight loss. I have always done this and it has worked. If you give into cravings than you will not lose the weight like you are expecting/wanting to
12. Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time? I do sometimes but than I feel like its to much of a schedule and it gets boring. I like to make everyday different as far as working out and eating so that way my body won't get "used" to it.
13. Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook? Yes. I cook chicken a lot and soups and I like to steam veggies and sometimes on the weekend I will make different foods from recipes I found but instead of using the "regular" stuff in the recipe I substitute it with fresher/fat free or reduced fat things.
14. How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go? We go out to eat about 2 times a week. Usually Ruby Tuesdays and I always get a salad when we go there.
15. What are your three favorite foods? Chicken, Salads and Turkey Sandwiches
16. What are your three favorite restaurants? Ruby Tuesdays, Logans and OCharleys
17. What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food? N/A
18. If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different? My self-esteem of course
19. Do you eat when you are not hungry? Nope
20. Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)? Nope
21. Do you hide your food or eat in secret? Nope
22. Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed? No, when I am sad, nervous or depressed I lose my appetite and don't eat at all!
23. Do you eat as a reward? Nope
24. Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer? Nope
25. What do you normally eat for a meal? Lunch is usually Tuna or a Turkey breast sandwich on whole wheat/grain bread, dinner is usually chicken and steamed veggies
26. What type of snacks do you eat? I don't eat snacks
27. In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing? Running Running Running! I have also started running sets up and down the bleachers at the high school
28. Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home? Home, the high school and I have a gym membership
29. What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise? RUNNING! Weights, and swimming
30. What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals? The satisfaction of knowing how happy and proud I will be to reach 130! AND to add another weight loss success story to my life.
31. Do you have rewards for certain goals? I got my hair done when I lost half of my 80lbs and when I lose the rest of it I will be getting another tattoo that has to do with life and my son being born

Wow, I see all these diaries with like 2k+ replies! How does that happen! Anyways I didn't post anything up yesterday so here is a breakdown of food and exercise

BFast
1 Serving of Go Lean [hot] cereal
1 Banana
1 glass of skim milk
Multivitamin and Fish Oil supplement

Snack
1 Serving of Dry Roasted/unsalted peanuts

Lunch
1 Can of Chunk Light Tuna
1 Tablespoon of Light Mayo [mixed in with the Tuna and some added pepper]
1 Banana
Fish Oil supplement

Snack
1 Serving of Dry Roasted/unsalted peanuts

EXERCISE!
2 Mile run

Dinner
4oz [it could have been less, it was a really small chuck steak], steamed French style green beans and steamed broccoli

I had a sweet tooth around 7pm so I cut up 3 strawberries and mixed them up with a 60 calorie sugar free chocolate and vanilla jello cup. It hit the spot!

Today I am running again after work with my friend. Tomorrow is BLEACHER RUNNING! Woohoo! Its amazing how just 3months ago I felt like a freight train trying to run and now I feel so much lighter. They weren't kidding when they said 1lb lost = 4lbs of pressure off your knee's!

We are going on a cruise to the Bahamas in December so thats even more motivation for me to reach my goal! So far everything seems to be going pretty well. I get frustrated every once in awhile but who doesn't? I just want this weight gone! I will admit before I had a baby I would look at other women and see how much weight they gained from being pregnant and I would snicker about how "now that the baby is here they won't lose the weight"... or whatever but now I am right there with them granted not everyone tries to lose the weight after a baby [i.e my sister HA!] but I want to prove everyone wrong and than some because im sure [like I did] there are people/friends that see/saw me with all that extra weight and thought how I won't lose it but oooooh I will. Ive done it before i'll do it again!
