Jim (the girl)'s Weight Loss Diary

(sorry for the poor title- I'm notoriously un-creative vv)

Hi to everyone!
I only just joined this forum, but I've been reading posts and things for a few days, and I was really inspired by everyone's little diaries on here. So I thought I'd make one myself!

A little bit about me as a person... my nickname is Jim, and I'm a college student studying biochemistry. I got the nickname in high school...some guy started calling me that, for who knows what sort of reason (my real name is Jessica), but it sorta grew on me! I like doing things like watching dramas and reading books and hanging out with friends. And...

Obviously, I want/need to lose weight, otherwise I probably would not be posting here! I don't even know how much I weigh now, since I do not own a scale anymore. But I definitely cannot wear any of the clothes I wore last winter, and those were clothes I could not have worn the winter before that. :/

My goal is going to be something like 110-115 pounds (yes, I'm short!). That's like in the 21-22 BMI range for me, so maybe not super skinny, but that's how much I weighed up until I developed this horrible eating habit I have now of eating for fun!

It's my main problem really... I don't have terrible eating habits otherwise, like I make good choices at meals and don't snack mindlessly. It's just that, whenever I am bored or have free hours, my first thought is to spend that time buying and eating food! It's a really horrible habit. I can literally eat half-gallons of ice cream or family-sized bags of chips at a time!

So my main goal is going to be to STOP the recreational eating! (And I would love to hear advice from anyone else who had/has this sort of habit to overcome....).
Other than that, I plan to also try to step up my exercise a little bit. I used to be a runner, but since I've gained weight, the only exercise I really like to do is weight training. So I'll keep up with that, but also try to add in walking 3 miles a day, I think. I don't think that will burn so many calories or anything, but it'll feel productive or something, maybe.

And I hope that updating here will maybe help me stay on track. I hope to get to know other people on this forum, too! Thanks to anyone who reads this!

Hiyaaaa! I'm Hana *waves* Welcome to the forum, Jim! I'm a massive recreational eater too..Only way I've found to beat it is by stocking up on carrots so I have something to put in my mouth at all times that's healthy or by just not having any spare time in which to eat! I'm out at work/uni most days and when I'm not I like to be out with friends and not looking into the fridge!

Good luck!

Hi, Hana! Thank you for your reply, and for the suggestions!!
I'll try to stock up on lots of easy veggie snacks like that...really good idea! And I'd also thought about trying to resolve to stay out on campus all day or something, so that I'm less tempted to start eating bored at home.

Hmmm, well, I'm not too positive all what I can write in here.

My first day went well, I think! I did not get any exercise done, but I also managed to stick to regular meals and not eat out of boredom. Instead, I did a lot of driving around to fill the time... I love driving! I wish it did not cost so much money....

Today, I think I'll be okay again, because I'm meeting a friend at lunchtime and have a dinner meeting in the evening, so not too much opportunity for boredom. Wish me luck!

I highly recommend weighing yourself. I started my diet without weighing myself and quickly realised I had no idea what I was aiming. The quicker you jump on those scales the easier it will be to map out your goals.
