Jennifuffa's Journal

That nightly snack was our downfall too, hubby and I would snack and it gradually grew into a dessert every night...needless to say that was where most of our weight issues came from!:D

Good luck with your mini goal...you can do it!

About the snacking....

I have found that once I start snacking even if it is fruit, or baby carrots it gets the juices flowing and then I end up snacking all night long until bed time. However light popcorn in an extreme pinch seems to help.

I have just come to terms with the fact that I just can't snack at night. I for some reason find it so hard about an hour after supper. I find I am peeking in the fridge or cupboard just looking for something to eat. So I try to keep busy in some way, usually play with my son then start his bedtime routine anyway.

I have been telling myself at suppertime to slow down enjoy the meal because this is the last time your eating before bed. I also got rid of all my bad treats and just don't have them around. Of course nothing is stopping me from running to the store up the street and getting a chocolate bar or other naughty treats.

Reflection:

I had an ok day today. It was rough with my son because he decided that he didn't really want to sleep at all today and I just put him down about 20minutes ago for the night which was 10:50pm. He usually goes down around 7pm and he was up at 5am this morning. What a long so very long long day.

One thing I liked about today.

It was a beautiful warm day. Oh and I got a bunch of hand-me down clothes from my friend. She has the nicest wardrobe and I got clothes in my size now and some a size down for the end of June. Which hopefully will tide me over until I can fit my pre prego clothing. I'm in the 10lb club challenge and I hope to lose a dress size by the end of June, I'm pretty close right now. I hate being inbetween sizes. My current size is a little lose in the caboose and my chubber belly is a little to fluffy to fit in the smaller size.

One thing that I could have improved about today.

I walked with my mom on her lunch hour (she works around the corner from where I live) and by the time we got going we only walked for a 1/2 hour before she had to go back to work. I should have walked for another 1/2 hour but I didn't have time to eat lunch before I left and I was starving. I guess it really isn't a good idea to exercise on an empty stomach but I don't think it would have killed me.

Sorry to hear you had a long day with your son, kids are so unpredictable aren't they?

That's great about getting the clothes from your friend!!! Instant pick me upper!

Your doing a great job. I really like how you do your journal... The reflection and what you liked about the day and improvements, such a cool idea.

cheers
michelle

One thing that has really helped me with evening snacking...I had been findind that I was getting up more in the night to pee (maybe because I'm getting older). So I set a time limit for myself...no eating or drinking after 7 pm. Because if I snack I have to drink something, and if drink something I'll be up all night peeing.

That doesn't mean I don't get the urge....but I find if I do get the munchies I just go do my nightime routine....brush my teeth and wash my face, and I won't eat after that. Because then I'll have to brush my teeth again.

It's funny the tricks we have to play on ourselves, isn't it?

Ouch. That DOES sound like a long day. :( Maybe he'll be better tomorrow?

And... WOOT! on the clothes. I love getting new clothes. Whether new or hand-me downs. I'm a total fashion fanatic. hehehe. I need to find a friend now who used to weigh what I weigh now so I can get some of her clothes. My present clothes is way too baggy. :(

Double woot on the walking. :D

Reflection

Yesterday was a pretty good day. I really can't complain. I went for a long walk to the bulkfood store and got a bag of soya beans and a bag of raisins. When I was a student teacher my host teacher made a mix of soya beans and raisins for this health unit wind up we had for the kids and it tasted really good. So I decided to make it myself so I could have a nice healthy snack.

What I like about yesterday

I went for a long walk and did 4.2kms. Oh and I also drank all of my water. I have focused on drinking at least 8 glasses a day. But according to that water info that I posted last week I should be drinking almost double. So I am going to try to keep increasing my water gradually 14 glasses of water a day sure is a lot of water.

One think that I could have improved

My husband and I went out for a date night which turned out to be a little lame. My mom came over to watch the little guy but he wouldn't go down for the night (seems to be his new thing). So we missed going to see the DaVinci Code and instead ended up going to Canadian Tire to pick out faucets and towel bars for our bathroom reno. We did manage to go for a couple of drinks and that is when we ordered Nacho's with the works, minus the beef. Of course I had my Cesar which is one of the more healthier choices but it came with a pickle. I hate when they serve it with a pickel. I look forward to the celery stick and the negative calorie thing.

I want to lose the weight so bad yet I keep sabotaging myself. The only thing I feel like I am doing right is the walking and other exercise that I am doing.

Some days I just wish I could afford lap band surgery. The easy way out. Sadly it is not currently coverd by OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) like gastric bypass surgery is.

On a brighter note thanks guys for the strong support and encouragement.

Hang in!

Hang in there! Try not to beat yourself up! Are you doing better than you were in April? Or in March? Look how far you have already come. Let the math cheer you up today. You have lost 15 pounds already, out of your goal of 135. That is more than 11 percent GONE!!!!!!

Imagine running a marathon and already having 11 percent of it licked. And you are just getting started building your fat-burning muscle bod! Every workout, every walk builds a stronger YOU!

I keep humming Eye of the Tiger in my head as I walk around my neighborhood. (Yes, I know that's corny.) Sure, I am the fatty getting lapped by skinny teenage joggers and kids on bikes, but I am getting faster, and stronger. You are, too. Don't forget that.

You are not sabotaging yourself. That is negative thinking. You are LEARNING, and things will get better!

twinmom

Thanks for the pep talk. That comment about thinking about the math has been ringing in my head all weekend. Just when I was getting that feeling about giving up. I needed that. Thank you.

Honestly I really believe that discovering this message board has really helped me.

One thing I liked about today

Drank all of my water! Yipee! Did my strength training. I am supposed to do my strength training 3 times a week. I had not done the work out in a week because I just didn't find the time with my son not wanting to sleep. But today I got back on the horse and I swear I noticed a difference in my strength already. I was able to hold things longer and do more reps.

One thing that I would have changed about today

I should have tried to get a walk in.

Just dropping in to say hello, wow 11 percent gone already that’s excellent keep going mate you can do it.

Hey there,

Yes I am up for the challenge, you are right we are up to 2pm monday avo now...holiday here for us...

I just had pita bread and salad for lunch..no spread, should we count pita bread or just sliced bread?

:D

U R Welcome!

You are so welcome! I love the math! Feelings can lie to us but the data is always true. Just keep up the good work!

congrats on the 11 percent. yay! *cheers*
you should be very proud of yourself. I know I am of you. :)
Yay!! *cheers*

what's the difference between lap band surgery and gastric bypass? I had no idea gastric bypass was included in our OHIP til you mentioned it either!

and i totally know what you mean about the water. I'm trying to slowly up my 2 liter uptake to 3.5 which according to what you posted in the other thread is what I SHOULD be drinking. *gulp* it's sooo much water though isn't it? yikes.

Initial C

Yes I do believe that the suggested water intake is a bit extreme, however it may be a simple way to help in a crunch like maybe get over a plateau or something.

As for the Gastric Bypass surgery it is more intrusive where as the lap band surgery just puts a band around your stomach with a valve that lies under the skin where by you can fill the band up with fluid or remove fluid to regulate the amount of food that you can eat. The band slows down the food traveling to the stomach which I believe that creates a feeling of fullness. I guess that leads to eating less. Lap Band is done through laproscopic surgery so you only have to recover from two incisions If I do recall.

Are you familiar with Dr. Marla Shapiero? Anyway she was on Canada AM talking about this and she said that Gastric is covered and Lap band is not yet covered. Gastric costs more apparently and you actually have to get cut open because I think they do something with skipping the small intestines. Not totally sure what is involved but you would think that lap band would be covered since it is cheaper an would involved less recovery time.

Anyway I'm not that fond of surgeries so it's not likely that I would do this, never mind the $15,000.00 it costs to get the surgery. As far as being covered by ohip I think that you would have to be extremely overweight. I don't know the paticulars.

You're doing great....I love the 11% thing. It really gives you a better idea where you are. Just think that's more than a tenth of the way there. Just take it percent by percent and you will get there before you know it!!!! :D

p.s. I love the reflection thing you do. What a wonderful self-examination and it really keeps you in tune with your mind and your body. So smart!!!!

ah. thank you for the explanation. I did a lil further research and it looks like I make the criteria for gastric bypass surgery (classified as morbidly obese plus I am diabetic). Although I don't think I'd go for surgery ever. I believe doing it the old fashioned way like you. I don't really believe in diet pills or fast ways out... But it's good to know it's an option if I ever really needed it due to health reasons. Thanks again. :)

Scarlett thanks I think it was my training in social work which lead me to the reflection aspect of my journal. We were made to reflect on everything. I am no longer in social work but that part of me still hangs on.

I am beginning my three day ban on bread tomorrow!

Reflection

I was thinking about the 11% when I was walking and it made me feel pretty good. Then I was thinking about that quote someone has as thier signature you can only fail if you quit. I started to repeat that over and over in my head and found that it was a powerful quote but I wanted to make it into a more positive quote so I tweaked it a bit to suit my needs. "I won't quit. I wil succeed!" Towards the end of my walk I repeated this phrase over and over and I am going to add it to my signature.

What I liked about today

I followed my points to a T ! I walked twice today totalling an hour 15 minutes and I feel great. I walked a total of 4kms. I am pretty proud of myself. I also drank all of my water.

What I could have changed about today

I chose not to do my strength training and I am watched The Apprentice instead. But other than that I had a pretty good day!
