Answer these questions before starting your diary.
-- How much weight do you want to lose? 72 pounds
-- What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight? 18 months
-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)? Eat heathly, exercise
-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal? Me
-- How realistic is your goal? Very
-- When will you start? Last week
In four months I would like to be at 210. I am 5'-3" and weighed 237 last monday when I started this. My biggest problems with eathing are at night while watching TV and eating too fast. If I can control these I will really be doing something. Old habits are so hard to break... :banghead: Here I go again..

I am obsessed now and hope to stay that way

My diet is going good so far but then it is just 8 days into it. If I can just stay obsessed with it I will be ok. It seems like after all this time I am either not or I am obsessed. No middle ground with me. I was up early and walked a mile. I think I hurt my back just a touch doing the vacuuming and stuff this weekend. My left leg starts to hurt as the nerve gets pinched. It is feeling better but I did not want to over do the walking this morning.

Hitting the hard spots already

I have lost all the easy pounds now each one after this will take lot of work. :seeya: So that is what I will do. Making a very long term goal with lots of mini goals in between is a real good way to approach my war on weight. I am up for it..

Getting back to walking every morning feels so good. I think it must get my blood flowing or something cuz I feel so energetic.

So far to go

It is hard when you think of how far you have to go to be at a good weight. I lost another pound ... yes! Feel wonderful... yes! If this keeps up I will hit my first goal ahead of time. That would be super..
:patriot:

I feel great

:willy_nilly: I feel great. :hat: I am so much happier with my self now that I am on this diet. I broke down and started counting my calories again yesterday. Just need to know what I am putting in my body for the day. :waving: After counting I can see I am doing just about what i need to. I will keep it up for awhile. I have done a lot of counting in the past so I really do know what to eat and what not to eat.

Well done on your weight loss to date.

If you count calories - dont make the mistake of thinking that you need to aim too low. There has been too much publicity of 1,000 calories a day and 1,200 calories a day diets over the years. These people should be shot!!!

Round here we go much more towards the carefully measured 12 * weight in pounds concept plus exercise of course...

Those old fashioned diets are great for people with 7 pounds to lose - useless with people that need to stick to something for quite a long time... The bigger number actually works out better for a lot of reasons.

Dont make the mistake of thinking that you already know what to eat and not to eat. There is so much more to it than calorie total magic numbers...

Hey!! do you mind sharing your diet and workout details?!

Thanks Omega,

I am not really counting calories 100% of the time. I want to eat what I need to keep me healthy. I am also drinking lots of water and taking vitamins. I found the only old fashion diet that ever worked well long term was the Weight Watchers approach. No fad craze diet for me any more, no pills, just eat three smaller meals a day with a little healthy snack in between and exercise.

I love to work so if I do not go exercise first thing I find I do not do it because I am in the middle of something and just will not stop ... So what works for me is in the morning I getup, drink one cup of coffee then go exercise. I do all kinds of stretches, adjusted pushups and sit-ups then walk for 1 or 1.5 miles on the tread mill. I hope after awhile to increase the miles.

Ok Eymediaoutlet this is what I have done for 2 weeks. So far I am not tired of it.
After my exercising I will eat breakfast of ¾ cup cereal (wheat checks during the summer) with ½ skim or low fat milk, banana or almonds for a snack, lunch it is a small amount of one or more of these 1/2 c yogurt, cottage cheese, pieces of cauliflower, carrots, small piece of cheese or one or two a pieces of lunch meat. I again have a snack of some cut up veggies, dill pickles, or 1/8 almonds or (4-6) dried unsweetened prunes. For dinner if I am too busy to cook I have Lean Cuisine with a salad. If I cook then it is a small amount of meat with one or two vegetables. My biggest down fall has been the night time. So no snacks after dinner for me….I just drink water and so far this is working very well for me.

Oh thanks Camy.. that is very nice of you. I am not expecting this kind of weigh loss to last. Some times our bodies will lets it go and other times it just seems to have a mind of its own no matter what you do. I was only looking or hoping to lose 1 to 1.5 pounds a week so this is a suprise. As you age your metabolism slows down so much that it is even harder to lose it. The big thing I need to think of is this is going to be a long term commitment not a short one. I am now on week three of 72 weeks of my commitment .

Big hugs to you :waving:

Thanks Sallybean,

Yes it does feel great. I will stay strong. This is week three and I really feel wonderful. Just 11 pounds make you feel so much better. Pants feel better. Infact I can fit in to them and sit down too. LOL :driving:

Weight loss has slowed up but I expected it to happen.

Weight loss has slowed up but I expected it to happen. :ack2: This is the start of week 4 of 72 weeks of my plan...

I am sticking to my commitment to eat only healthy food by:
not eating many crabs,
try to stay away from real sugar,
eat fruits
eat nuts
eat lots of veggies
a little protein
and exercise every day

Went out to lunch Sunday but still just eat vegetables and a little meat with salad. No desert that came with the meal... :angelsad2:

Thanks Sallybean,

Although I have not lost anything for a few days I sure do feel better. How are you doing?

Needs,

Might a make a suggestion? First and foremost if you can't find time to cook your meals for dinner or for any other meal and/or you are not willing to make cooking like your second career, then you will continue to see your weight slide up and down without any real substantial results.

Second - get rid of the packaged lunchmeat (if that was what you were referring to)! It is no better than packaged dog poop. Just as we would never think to pick up a needle to shoot heroin (we hear it makes you feel GREAT, and that is why we get hooked) we should just have it in us not to get packaged/deli lunchmeat. They are full of chemicals including sodium nitrate and diasitate. Both chemicals reduce your testosterone levels and counteracts your weight loss effort. Also one of those chemicals has been linked strongly to cancer.

Third - Eat only nonfat dairy. There is no such thing as low fat milk unless it is nonfat. Use skim milk, FF half and half, FF sour cream, and FF cottage cheese, etc. Kraft makes a great FF shredded cheese that I use a lot on my lasagnas and parms.

try this out and just see if you get some escalated results. Again cooking is a big thing. There are faster ways and tools (like a rice steamer) to make it easier to cook in bulk for the week. I cook on Sundays for the entire week.

Five times a day, every 2-3 hours: No butter or oil, pam spray only!
5oz lean meat(no more than 20% from fat calories vs calories per serving) with 3/4 cup complex carbs. (5 egg whites = 5oz lean meat)

If you must have fruit, limit to once a day in the morning.
Veggies are unlimited - try to get in at least two cups a day.

You can unlimited condiments to add taste to things. Make sure they are low calorie and below that 20% fat rule. I use the CRAP out of mustard. Did you know there are about 50 different types of gourmet mustard? Broth adds great flavor to chicken, rice, and pasta.

If walking is the only exercise you can do right now, do it for an hour and walk quite briskly.
