Jane,
Nice start on your diary!
Some fruits have natural sugar in them, and that the sugar helps retain the fat. Fruit is okay, as long as it's in moderation. I knew a guy that ate 10 bananas a day, in addition to very small meal portions- I mean, very small portions. Yet, he was overweight. He wondered why... Anyhow. It's the vegetables that's best for a diet.
I had the same problem, not feeling satisfied after eating diet foods... And sometimes, feel "full", yet not satisfied. I can tell you that usually in a diet, the first 2 weeks are really tough. It gets easier on the 3rd week and gets more easier as time goes by. You'll have to "train" your mind.
My trick is, to take the time to think about what you are doing when you reach for the snacks. Is it worth it? What do you really want?
I wish there was a better way to help curb that desire. Maybe try chewing on a low calorie gum? I personally used "Hoodia", a supplement that you can buy online or at a GNC store (health store) for the first 3 days. What it does is suppress your hunger. Water helps too. After the 3rd day, I felt confident enough to stop using Hoodia.
Most people use Hoodia or such supplements as a daily supplement. I try to avoid that, because it's really tough to ease out of it. Instead, I use it as a tool to stop hunger on that particular day. I think it makes a world of difference. I tried using Hoodia as a daily supplement, as the container suggested, last year. As soon as I stopped it, I went crazy with the food. So, that's why I did it just to deal with the first 3 days and stopped before my body could get used to it.
This is my personal list to weight loss:
1. Portion control.
2. Eating right- no fast food, no eating out, no junk.
3. Stopped drinking Diet coke/Diet Pepsi.
4. Drink mostly only water, with the very occasional juice.
5. No eating after 8pm.
6. If in a 'stuck food situation'- IE: birthday party- eat in moderation.
7. Water- drink between 8 and 15 glasses a day.
8. Exercise daily- mostly brisk walks & bicycle rides
9. Rely heavily on doctor-approved digital weight scale.
Best of luck!!
George
