Jacko's weight loss diary

Finally decided to get into shape on 14th February. I'd just been away and pretty much ate and drank whatever I wanted and when I came back I realised I was 249.5lbs. So I decided I'd have to try and lose some weight! It was a big step for me as I had never really cared about my weight so never tried to diet. My target is to lose about 70lbs in about a year (so lose a couple of lbs a week) so I should be a healthy weight for my height.

I've stopped with fizzy drinks as I used to drink far too much coca cola, drinking mainly water now or pure orange juice in the mornings. I was also drinking alcohol most nights but have now cut back to a glass or 2 of wine or a couple of beers on my day off.

I've also started really trying to get my 5 a day fruit and veg. I prefer veg to fruit but trying to have at least a apple or orange a day as they are my favourite fruits. Other than that just trying to eat a little better and decided once a month (around payday) I will have a treat and maybe get a takeaway or something and hopefully this will stop me going mad haha. Also trying to walk more and when I get my confidence up may start going swimming a few times a week.

So been at it nearly a week and it's gone well except for one day when my mum decided she was going to order a takeaway curry! I just had a smaller portion than I normally would have done. I plan to weight and mesure myself every saturday and record the results in a little booklet I bought specially, but I couldn't resist getting on the scales a couple of times over the week as I store a lot of weight on my hips and although its only a very small difference they did feel very slightly smaller. Weighed myself yesterday and had lost 2 lbs and today I had lost 3 and 1/4 lbs altogether. So happy, I didn't expect to really see any results so quick thought it might take a few weeks, just hoping I can keep it up but I'm kinda of enjoying it so far.

So today I weighed myself and I'm down to 245.75 :hurray: I've lost 3 and 3/4 lbs in a week. Woo so proud of myself with this being my first week, will have to go shopping today thought as I'm quickly running out of fruit and veg lol

Great job on your first week, Jacko. 3 and 3/4 lbs?! Woot!

I feel like a pusher for as often as I make this suggestion, but I've been mixing some fruits and veggies into a breakfast smoothie with some soy milk and protein powder. I find it to be a great way to start the day. Just putting it out there. ;)

Can't wait to see how much you lose by next Saturday! Keep up the great work.

Trying to think what to have for dinner and tea today with what we have in. I've run out of pasta which I like to take to work instead of a sarnie. Guess I'll have to take a processed chicken sandwich with me. May have fish fingers for dinner with peas and a jacket potato...hmm I dunno,

Finally added a ticker to my signature :D Yesterday went pretty well except for having a 4 finger kitkat, however it was well within my calories so fine really. So far today I've had 2 slices of toast and a carrot, I normally have bran flakes for breakfast and realised its so much more filling than toast. At 11 I had a slight pain in my stomach and felt sick I think it was a mix of thirst and hunger so I had a drink fist and still felt a bit hungry (but the pain had gone thank god) so I ate a carrot and it now seems to have gone. Still the same weight today lol need to stop weighing myself except on saturdays I'm getting obsessed.

Also quite happy about the amount of sit ups I can now do in a row. When I started on the 14th I could only do a couple and I felt so bad, when I was at school we had to do a beep test kinda thing doing sit ups and I was the only girl (apart from the pe teacher) to finish the test, most girls don't do sit ups I guess but I always have been a bit of a tom boy. It improved and by the first week I could do 5, then 10 and today I did 20 in a row. I wish I could pluck up the courage to go swimming, I love swimming and now theres a pool basically just over the road! I'm off tomorrow so would be a great time to go and good excercise but I dunno.

Hey Jacko,

I'm about to embark on a similar journey to you, from 260lbs to 165lbs, just ironing out my diet and will start this weekend. Hoping to complete it over a year and maintain it forever! ;)

I know what you mean about swimming, i have a pool about a ten minutes from me but don't dare go down there at this weight which is a pain because swimmings one of the few exercises i really enjoy....

Just out of interest whats your daily calorie intake on the diet and what was it before so? Using an online calorie calculator i'm told that (including my proposed workout schedule) i should be having 3.5k calories, and although it's recommeneded to just drop 500 for weight loss i was thinking of allowing myself a max 2k calories

Good luck on your journey, i'll keep an eye out for your progress! :D

Before I was only eating about 1,000 calories on a normal day but it was pretty much all junk and then once every week I would have a takeaway or something(and go totally over my recommended calories). I also drank so much coca cola and was drinking alcohol most nights. I was also skipping breakfast most days.

Now I'm eating at least 1,500 calories (500 less than my recommended) and just eating more healthily and eating breakfast every day. Seems to be working.

Thanks and good luck with your journey too!

Today has been pretty good so far, I was going to have cereal for breakfast but my mum had left the milk on the side and I can't stand warm milk, has to be really cold for me so I had a toasted breadcake (bread roll for everone not from South Yorkshire...so probably all the forum heh). For dinner I had a jacket potato with bolognese (had left over sauce from pasta I took to work) with a bit of cheese on top and salad. It was very nice. I plan to have a bit of fruit soon, maybe apple and a orange. Then for tea I'm having a stir fry with pork and chicken. I also bought some budweisers so plan to have a few with my tea.

hey wanna weight loss.......
here is an idea
EAT BREAKFAST LIKA A KING.......
LUNCHA LIKE A PEASANT.......
DINNER LIKE A BEGGAR..........

Thanks for that :| but really wouldn't work for me as I'd be constantly hungry and then be likely to grab something else and go over my recommended calories. Happy how I'm doing it at the minute, and as far as I'm aware doesn't really matter.

Today I've had cereal and an orange for breakfast and plan to have pasta and chicken for dinnter then a beef sandwich for tea and just plan to drink water.

Lost a lb so far this week, hopefully I might lose another before saturday but if not no biggy.

I dunno about "a few" budweisers :D but that sounds like some great food. All the best with your journey.

Stuck at the same weight this week in the end! Can't really say I'm suprised I did drink a bit more than I wanted to. Best try better this week!
