It Starts...

Hello!! My first time here, actually following Alta around today, she knows the cool people. lol

I didn't know you were also doing WW! Me too! I've lost 32 pounds since February 08 on WW.

I really know what you mean about the dieting being over. My whole way of life and eating has been changing for the better. I love that i choose what I want to eat, and I am not restricted. It's helped me find foods that are just as good as my old fatty favorites.

I too have been really wanting to go meatless. I love veggie burgers, veggie sausage, veggie chorizo... but I need to try more stuff, I can't eat that all the time. I even tried the veggie ground beef and made tacos with it.

It's different, but I am hoping over time that I will learn to love the new flavor and stop missing the real stuff. I want to do it for my heart.

I hope you are having a great week!! Go WW!

Haha!! Hey you are allowed to stalk her I just decided!!! Thanks for stopping by I like when new people come say hello.

WW has really showed me to look at labels and cut back on protion size. I have found it to be the only thing that really works for me! I couldnt tell you how much I have lost on it, because I have been doing it on and off for the past few years. But I have made up my mind that I am in it for the long haul. 32lbs is GREAT!!! And its so easy!!

I have had ZERO success with trying to go meatless. But I haven't really tired that hard. My co-worker keeps suggesting I just get a vegan cookbook, but I just haven't done it yet. I am just worried that Stephen won't like ANYTHING... he is picky.

So far my week is going good... crazy busy but thats how I like it!!

Cheers MJ :cheers2:

I have gone meatless, but recently have begun to slowly eat more meats. I find it to be much easier to not completely restrict yourself from meat, but to eliminate it as much as possible, and to especially stay away from processed meats and red meats. I have kept fish in my diet and eat it daily. It is super low in saturated fats which makes it a much healthier choice. I also prefer the organic meats, because the meat is leaner since the animals are farm raised and have an opportunity to run around. Other options are beans and anything soy. Also protein shakes. But I am not going to sit here and tell you that I don't miss a greasy hamburger every now and then. But having made the choice I have, I am "not allowed" to eat them, so I eat tuna burgers and veggie burgers instead.

One thing to note though. Many veggie burgers have nearly the same amount of saturated fat as regular meat does. I discovered the fish burger yesterday, and for more than half the amount of saturated fat those things are super awesome.

Oh and I recommend trying tofurkey. Deli slices made of tofu that taste like real meat. Can't go wrong!!

I wish I was more of a fish eater, but I have a hard time choking the stuff down. And Stephen love it, but he is from the east coast so there he could get it fresh... here its all flash frozen from the stores and tastes fishy, so growing up we never ate it and now its like something new and ewww to me.

My fams from the east coast as well (my dads side are much more fishier people [my uncles are fisherman]), which may explain my super easy pallet for it. My moms side of the family even think I'm crazy when I come home with a non-traditional fillet of fish like catfish. I really want to try swordfish... might give that a go this week.

I definately recommend attempting to eat fish though. Though its not straight out of the ocean, it is still good. Maybe try to purchase a pre-marinated fresh fillet from the grocery store. That might make it less fishy tasting and more tolerable for someone who's not quite a fan of seafood.

Hey :)

I don't know if I could ever go completely meatless. I'm just kinda picky about my meat... I love steak and fish too much to ever give it up completely.

BTW, I'm a Capricorn... I hope you will still talk to me after I told you that, lol ;)

Yeah we always have fish when we go to Stephen's family's... and will most likely have fish everyday while we are on our trip since we will be on the ocean.

I heard swordfish is really good... someone told me that I HAVE to try it while we are there.

We bought some frozen fillets, but I dont remeber what kind they were... Stephen hated them because they weren't fresh... there is a fish market here, but I haven't been there.. I might need to check it out. It's also really expensive.

Yeah, Step is the same way he loves his meat. Me I am indifferent... I grew up always having meat with almost every meal... but I would like to start cutting out the sat. fats.

LOL my mom is also a Capricorn so no worries!! Her and I get along just fiiiine!:seeya:

I love fish. I could eat it every meal. We have to get frozen here as well but thats ok. I have heard a lot of great chefs say that if you are over 1 hr from where the fish was cought, frozen is better anyway. We have trout and catfish that is fresh but anything else is frozen. Salmon freezes well. I have it atleast 3-5 times a week. I love it.

I just need to have a talk with my tastebuds and tell them to freaking like fish or deal with it!!!!!!!!!
It's been my experience with fish haters -that they haven't had it prepared properly...

It's not the fish itself that's offensice -it's probably that it was overcooked or not prepared well...

Expand your culinary horizons a bit and give it a shot... it's not scary :) well monk fish is but it's tasty good :D

I have had some fish that was good... smoked salmon and then a baked halibut.. I baked salmon, it was terrible... Expanding my skills would not be a bad idea.

I personally can't stand smoked fish -the texture of it drives me crazy... but baked is very yummy...

Next time you attempt to bake it yourself...

A sheet of tin foil... some fish.. .some lemon slices... maybe a splash of white wine.... and some garlic or parsley or dill... whatever herbs you enjoy.. then seal the foil and bake it for about 25 minutes.. fish comes out perfect every time.. and tastes amazing.. because it's cooked in the foil - all the juices stay with the fish - so it doesn't get dried out and is pretty much impossible to overcook...

A:iagree: Pouch is great for fish. I had a recipe somewhere......... Oh well mal prolly has a better one anyway.

you can also use parchment- the parchment browns so it makes it a nicer presentation.... and just cut open the parchment - but that paper isn't always readily available int he grocery store... :D

Anyone wanna hear my carp recipe???????

Simple
Take 1 carp
Put it on a cedar plank
season liberally with salt, pepper, lemon juice
roast over an open flame for like 30 minutes

when the fish is nicely charred remove from fire.

Throw the fish away and eat the board........it will taste better that way.

Get it? Cause carp arent good. HAHAHAHA

LOL ahhh you crack me up Ed!!

I will try the pouch method Mal and see how it works out for me. Can you do the same on a gas grill??? Throw in some veggies???

the plank method you can do on a gas grill... the packets you can do in the oven, toaster oven, grill, whatever.. .and veggies go nicely in them - zucchini and carrots work well
