Hi!! To answer your question on my diary - Yes, I have tips!! Just in case I get wordy, I'll bold the key points and you can ignore the rest if you want, haha.
1)
Progress should be slow and steady (emphasis on slow) - I tried for a couple of years to get into running, and never got anywhere because I was pushing myself too hard. I started in June running maybe five or ten minutes at a time, and stuck to a schedule of just a little bit of improvement every week, and it was SO much better this time around! People convince themselves that being sore is a sign of a good workout, and sure, that's proof that you did something, but being in pain is not a requirement. Personally, I find the fact that I can run five miles and NOT be more much more a sign of success than being unable to walk the next day! In my six months of regular running, I have been the tiniest bit sore maybe twice. Maybe.
2)
Focus on time OR distance OR speed.. NOT more than one! - As a new runner I'd say there's no reason to focus on speed, and the easiest approach would be time. It's very easy to get wrapped up in trying to get faster and go farther at the same time, and that will get you nowhere. When I pretty much fell in love with Lisa

beating

was when something she said gave me the "push" I needed to drop my speed, and ultimately be able to complete three miles on the treadmill for the first time ever. Completing a slow 3 miles was much more satisfying than completing a quick 2.5 miles for weeks without ever getting over that hump. Find a speed that is comfortable for you, and when you reach some milestone like a 5K distance, that's the time to start getting faster.
3)
Be careful of when and how you compare yourself to others - Use other people as inspiration and motivation, but never get down on yourself when you see that your running pace is someone else's walking pace, or if you're "only" jogging for a minute at a time. We all started somewhere, and as far as I can tell, we all remember that! I don't think anyone whose opinions matter would be any less than thrilled to hear about you reaching a goal like running 2 minutes straight for the first time ever! So above all, be proud of yourself for all of your accomplishments, no matter how they compare to others!
I bet there are more.. but this is what I thought of so far!! I'll update if I think of anything else that's good

Hope this helps some!
