Is it easier for men to lose weight??

I've gained about 40 or more pounds since January 08, here in the past 2 or 3 weeks, I've cut out fast food, drink a gallon of water a day, and walk 30 minutes a day, and I've only lost 7 pounds, which I think is all water weight. =/

My husband on the other hand; in August he weighed 260 pounds. He don't excersize at all, drinks buttloads of gatorade and soda. But now, he weighs 228 pounds, and the weight keeps falling off of him.

I know part of it is his metabolism, cause he eats small meals throughout the day, but I don't think metabolism causes that much of a factor, his mom says its the sudden change in his diet since he moved in with me, could that be it? Or is it just easier for men to lose weight?

The bigger you are the more you can loose in larger amounts. See Biggest Loser for example.

Guys generally have a slightly faster metabolism, more muscle means more calorie burnage. But over all its not *that* much different. Girls also retain more water - especially at 'that' time of month

I think our toiletry habits are a little more regular (excuse me, I don't mean to be vulgar).

I know my wife isn't as regular as I am and talking to other women they seem to experience the same. I'm sure it evens out in the end but yes, I do think that us men have a bit of an advantage in the earlier months.

What Wishes said.

And the adaptive component of our metabolisms in response to dieting seem to favor men too... but that's no something you need to worry about much until you're relatively lean trying to get leaner.

=/

you all have good points. jacob, that wasn't vulgar, and thats extremly true on my part, i know, TMI. lol.

i've lost another pound since i posted that message, so its going slowly but i guess thats a good thing.

thanks for the responses

The rate (lbs or percentage from total weight) of loosing weight regardless of their sex classification is also genetic based as well. My older brother can drop 10 lbs per week by simply skipping 1 meal every other day. He was born skinny and his body wants to be skinny. For my body (that's also a T2 diabetec), it wants to be fat. My body was born fat, its been fat through high school / college and its been fat most of my adult life. When I stop exercising 3 hours per day, it tries to ballon outwards - to its most comfortable size. The normal shape its known since birth (sort of speaking).

With this in mind, genetics / one's unique natural body "comfort size" influences ones' weight loss progress as well... Sad to say but true...

I agree with what wishes said. He may have more muscle because it's easier for him to grow compared to a women and he will use more calories to give them energy where as your's may not always be used for that. You may also have to think about genetics which we can't change and it's not great but we all have to deal with it and just keep on progressing as you will achieve your goals in the end.

Men Have more Muscle Mass!

Dear Friend, I can understand why you are perplexed but this phenomenon can be easily explained. You see, even if both men and women weigh equally on the scale the men usually have 18-19 pounds more of muscle mass than women. It is the genetically pre determined, before birth, that male offspring should have more muscle mass and female offspring should have more fatty tissue. So we cannot do anything about it.

Since muscle is the main fat burning engine of the body you will find that men almost always tend to lose extra fat more quickly than women, all other factors being equal in a scientific study.

Don't lose hope, though, if you are a better disciplined and well informed person you are sure to succeed in your weight loss goals.
