Is it better to run AND lift same day?

not nessecarily on en empty stomach, if your goal is to expand lunge volume and get a healthy heart (which is what cardio SHOULD be used for imo) you should have some energy in you so you can go harder.
 
LV, i have heard you should do cardio after weights, since cardio takes alot of energy from you and will cripple your weightlifting.
But if you wait sevral hours, doing cardio like 8am and going to the gym like 6pm, is that a long enough wait?

Yes, if they are performed in the same session then cardio should be done after weights. If one would like to perform them on the same day and time is not an issue, you can perform cardio in the AM and weights in the PM.

This is what I do....cardio 6:30am, weights 5:30pm.

HIIT, utilizes your body's fat storage as energy. eating something before HIIT, would essentially just be burning calories... 90-100% of your heart rate and switch to 60-70% intervals.

and the cardio your specifying is "related" to regular cardio. the point of HIIT is, burning fat with minimal muscle loss while running your hardest and of course taking 45-1 minute or so walk/jog and repeating.

I've practiced both HIIT and low intensity cardio, fasted and non-fasted, and my findings are fasted low intensity surpasses HIIT on a fat loss/muscle retention basis. Diet must be spot on at all times.
