Is HIIT a replacer for low intensity cardio?

Ive been doing a lot of reading on HIIT and havent found a clear answer. Some say HIIT is all you need, others say they do both. Can I replace my cardio with HIIT instead? I generally do 30 minutes at about 70%. I did my first HIIT today and man I felt funny afterwards. My legs almost gave out and I was actually winded for a while, which has happened in a few weeks. I am looking just to burn excess fat. I want the muscles, I dont think Ill ever be really skinny( I have a natural big build) and I was just wondering if I am wasting my time doing the 30 minutes of treadmill at 6 mph.

they both have their place. HIIT is far superior to the low intensity cardio for terms of physique changes but there are important physiologically changes that come with aerobic type setup.

I believe longer cardio will help you with Stamina and Endurance. HIIT will burn more fat and help your speed. Either way they both have there benifits, but HIIT is has alot more positives and the workouts arent as long.

Personally I still believe its a personal thing, but I have no scientific or otherwise grounds for that statement other than personal results.

From a strictly running POV, interval training to help up your V02 max, and LISS to help build endurance. So for running, a combination of both is ideal.
