Is bulking/cutting sport like?

I was just wandering if Cutting/Bulking is sport like. I play Football (American) but at times I have to stay in perfect shape. I am not looking for size at all. Often I am reading articles on 5x5 and strength conditioning, plyometrics, etc.

So is it okay to cut/bulk while your in a Sport. There are many benifits. Like if I bulk I could add alot of mass (however I will lose speed in the middle of a bulk) or I could Cut and lose fat (which will result in a very small muscle mass loss along with a loss of energy not to mention if I lose pounds I can take harder hits).

What do you all think?

you should addres these areas during the off season and maintain in season or performance will drop

Exactly. You probably won't make many gains if you stay at your current weight. To increase your relative strength, bulk up during the offseason doing heavy lifts, and cut to lean muscle before the season starts. Otherwise you won't get as much as far as gains are concerned.

If you do a clean bulk, you can add mass (and strength) without adding too much fat. As far as cutting goes, start by reducing your calories by 250-500 calories a day. This will give you roughly .5lg to 1lb loss a week. If you keep the protein high, you can lose some fat with relatively little muscle loss. If you do it right, you can actually cut and gain strength.

The keyword, right.
thanks, you all helped me make my decision. I'm gonna cut before the season. Hope I do good at linebacker.
