Hi!
Wondering if anyone has been or is using Acomplia the weight loss drug? Would really like to know more about it and gain some feedback with regards to taking it.

Thanks!

Acomplia
rimonabant
Company: Sanofi-Aventis

Acomplia is a new anti-obesity drug which has just been approved in the European Union, and may be approved in the United States later this year.

What is Acomplia?
Acomplia (rimonabant) is the first in a new class of therapeutic agents called Cannabinoid-1 Receptor Blockers (CB1).

Acomplia is used in the treatment of obesity and related conditions.

How does Acomplia work?
Acomplia acts by selectively blocking CB1 receptors found in the brain and in peripheral organs important in glucose and lipid (or fat) metabolism, including adipose tissue, the liver, gastrointestinal tract and muscle1.

Acomplia switches off the same brain circuits that make people hungry when they smoke cannabis.

CB1 receptor blockade with Acomplia acts to decrease the overactivity of the endocannabinoid system (EC system)2,3. The EC system is a recently characterised physiological system that includes receptors such as the CB1 receptor and it has been shown to play an important role in regulating body weight and in controlling energy balance, as well as glucose and lipid (or fat) metabolism.

What is Acomplia used for?
Acomplia is used complementary to diet and exercise to treat obese or overweight patients who suffer from Type 2 diabetes and abnormal levels of fat in the blood.

Sanofi argues that Acomplia can also prevent the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Patients with large waist circumference (102 cm in men and 88 cm in women) will mostly benefit from taking the drug.

Does Acomplia also aid smoking cessation?
Acomplia has been studied by sanofi-aventis as an aid to smoking cessation based on studies for up to one year in over 6,500 smokers motivated to quit smoking.

Sanofi-aventis submitted a New Drug Application to the FDA, which in turn issued a non approvable letter for Acomplia for use in smoking cessation. An approvable letter was however issued for Acomplia for use in weight management.

Acomplia has just been approved in the European Union. Is Acomplia approved in the United States?
No. Sanofi is still awaiting U.S. marketing go-ahead which it has said could come by the end of this year.

U.S. health authorities have asked Sanofi for more information on Acomplia.
Acomplia received European Union marketing approval in June 2006.

The first launch will take place in Britain in July and be followed by launches in Denmark, Ireland, Germany, Finland and Norway in the second half of this year, according to Sanofi.

What were the results of Acomplia Clinical trial studies?
In clinical studies, Acomplia has been shown to improve a wide array of cardiometabolic risk factors as well as promoting sustained weight loss4,5.

Approximately half of the observed improvement in HDL-cholesterol, triglycerides and HbA1C (an indicator of blood sugar control) in patients who received Acomplia 20mg was beyond that expected from weight loss alone6.

What are the side-effects of Acomplia?
Side effects in the trial on Acomplia in obesity were vomiting and nausea, forcing about 19 percent of patients to leave the trial versus 13 percent of those who took placebo.

on Acomplia for 5 weeks

I have been taking Acomplia for 5 weeks now.

I changed my life style on January 10th 2007 when I realised my weight had ballooned to 26 stone (364 lbs). I decided a diet wasn't the answer as I had tried so many in the past and none had ever resulted in long term weight loss.

I changed my way of life completely, I started eating sensible healthy food and going for walks. In February I joined a local gym and started to go every other day, I mixed this with long walks. By the time I went to see my GP 6 weeks ago I was down to 21 st 1lb which was a los of almost 5 stone.

My weight loss at this point had slowed down to the extent that I was struggling to shed a pound in a week

After seeing two different GP's at my surgery the second one finally agreed to let me have acomplia on prescription, I thought this was suprising considering how Obese I am. Anyway I went back for my first weigh in after using up my first months supply. I was down to 19 st 13lbs which was a loss of 16lbs. The Doctor was extremely pleased with the results as was I and she prescribed me another two months supply until I go back for my next weigh in.

Since then I have reduced my weight to 19 st 8lbs in the space of a week thats another 5 lbs.

Obviously there were a few side effects at first including constipation, the runs, stomach upset and cramps etc but most of them soon passed.

There are a few small side effects which have remained mainly to do with stomach upset however these could be due to the change in my diet too so Im not too worried.

At the end of the day my weight loss continues without me resorting to ridiculous diets etc.

My goal is to reach 12 st by the beginning of January which will be amazing because I have been obese all my life. I think the main thing I have learned is that diets dont work, only changing your lifestyle will result in long term weight loss.

I would recomend Acomplia to anyone although other people might have different side effects, after all we are all different but for me it works great.

I have lost 90 lbs (6 st 6lbs) in the space of less than three months and feel healthier than I have ever done.

Skeptical about Acomplia

I just started with Acomplia. As a matter of fact this is only my second day. I took 20 mg yesterday and 20 mg this morning. I have experienced absolutely no loss of apetite. Quite the contrary. I seem to want to eat more. Is there a period of days that this takes before it begins to take affect? I'd appreciate your thought.

Thanks,

VBI

I am using Acomplia

Hi there I have been using this for 5 days I my appitite seems to have increased aswell! Does the effects supposed to work as soon as you start to take them? Any suggestions please

What about Generic Acomplia - Slimona Riomont

Hi, has anyone tried the generic Acomplia?
I found Slimona and Riomont (also Rimoslim and Riobant)
Anyone has any experience with one of those products?

Thanks!

Acomplia WORKS!!!

Hi ordered Acomplia from an online pharmacy and it is amazing. The first day I had slight muscle aches, but that went away after day 1. This is day 11 now and I've gone from 74kg to 68kg!!! Amazing!! It's like when I see food that before I would have had to eat I can just shrug my sholders and pass it!! My goal is to get to 61 and I think I will be there in no time!! Highly recommended!!!

used riomont

Hi, I took this drug and I really liked it. I did some research, and it seemed the side effect to worry about was depression, so I monitered myself. No problems. Then I started having some sleep issues. One night last week I had the most scary night terror!!! I woke up screaming bloody murder!, I was scared to death!!, the only explanation can be the riomont/accomplia. I quit taking it and have not had a re-occurance. I tried to write to Cipla (the mfg) but they have not responded.
It's a shame, because I was so hopeful.
