interval training on an incline

Without really realizing I have been doing this kind of training on the treadmill but on an incline.

Firstly I warm up for 10 mins jogging then I set the treadmill to incline 12 and go between 6 and 4mph. Going at 6mph for 1 min then letting my heart come back to 130 bpm at 4mph then back on 6 for a min repeat for 20 mins then cool down just walking at 4mph on incline 12 for the last 10 mins.

This really racks up the calories but is it as effective fat burning as proper HIIT?

I think the answer to your question is no, I think I've read multiple times that properly done HIIT is much better.

That said, I still do interval training since I just started re-incorporating cardio and it can be pretty damn good. Try this: using a stepper, set the time for 15 minutes, and the resistance as high as it goes. Start right away, going as hard as you possibly can, and do it for 15 seconds, then rest for the next 45 seconds. Repeat that at the start of every minute till times up. I guarantee you will be beat to hell if you really go at it...

Changed my routine today and did incline 3 and just went 4mph for 1 min them 8mph for 1 min and repeated for 40 mins. First 20 were comfortable last 20 hurt. Due to my age I dont want to go above 165 bpm (90%) but I was above this for the last 10 at the end of the fast mins. I know this is not intense enough for proper HIIT but it feels like I have worked my b*lls off.

When I do interval training on a treadmill, I set the incline the same as the mph. I sometimes do 7.5 mph and 7.5 incline for 1 minute and then walk for a minute or 2, and then run again. I personally like HIIT better on the track because you have a choice with what speed you want to go. On the treadmill, I feel like I am not going as fast as I should be going.

Unfortunately I am not privvy to a track at the times I train so I have to be content with the treadmill. I am basically trying to get the best out of my 40 mins. Sometimes I just run at the same pace and sometimes I crank it upto 15 and walk. but I have to admit the interval training seems to go quicker and is more fun to do.

I am gonna work on interval 3 times a week for the next month or so and see how that goes.

Best day at interval yet I think.

warm up on incline 2 5 mph 5 mins.
20 mins solid incline 3
4 mph 1 min
10 mph 1 min
repeat

warm down
5 mins 7mph
5mins 6mph
5 mins 5mph

Really felt the 20 mins interval and I was working real hard at 10 mph

I am thinking that after a few more sessions I am gonna try proper HIIT and see if I live!
