Hey everyone,

Three months into my weight loss journey I'm finally breaking down and starting a diary. I'm not one to be very open with people about things that are personally significant... in fact, throughout my life I've gone out of my way to not have to be open with myself about such things. Perhaps here I'll be able to make some progress toward overcoming that personality flaw.

Now for the numbers: *drum roll*

I'm 31 years old, and 6' tall, and I started out at 360 lbs near the end of May 2009. As of this morning, I am down to 305 lbs. I hope to get down to 200 lbs by next May. To accomplish that goal, I will eat around 20%-30% less calories per day than my intake required to maintain my current weight (Nod to KaraCooks!), and attempt to put in a minimum of 3 workouts per week at the gym. I believe that achieving 105 lbs of weight loss from my current weight in that time frame is very achieveable without resorting to dangerous or unhealthy practices. Also, if I don't make it by May I won't fall to pieces, I've chosen that as a time that corresponds with the ~1% weight loss per week projection as when I'll be around 200 lbs.

Well, I'm already feeling a bit uncomfortable even putting all of this stuff down instead of setting off on this mission solo. I know that I'll open up more in the coming days, it'll just take me some time. Pretty sad when a person can't handle any earnest reflection...

Anyway, I'm heading off to bed... Time to let my subconscious take over for a while, my self-analysis and corresponding discomfort are already starting to ramp up!

Hello unrecognizeable,

Glad to see you started a Diary. :)

Congratulations on the 60 lbs loss & continuing your new lifestyle!!

It's not sad at all, everyone has their own pace with what they're comfortable with. ;) And look at you, taking a brand new step!!! It all adds up eventually.

Take Care

Thank you for the encouragement, RunningGirl. :) It means a lot!!!

This morning I weighed in at 304.2 lbs.

For breakfast I had:

(140) 2x Eggo Low-Fat Wheat Waffles
(240) 3x Jennie-O Turkey Sausage Patties
(120) 1 cup Egg Beaters (Scrambled)
(110) 1 serving Low-Cal Breakfast Syrup (actually it was less than a serving but oh well)

I try to have a good amount of calories early in the day, and taper off going in to the evening. I tend to eat three meals a day, instead of many small meals. I don't snack, and everything I have is part of my regimen.

Hi unrecognizeable! Good going starting up a diary. You are doing REALLY well. :) I am envious of your weight loss! :p

I hear you on the snacking thing; I too seem to gravitate to 3 meals a day. Not sure, but seem to lose more weight that way.

Keep posting your successes and triumphs!

Welcome! I hope you find keeping a journal useful. I know it helps me a lot.

That's - really astounding weight loss. What did you do to lose 55 lbs in two months? That's like almost a pound a day.

Hey shinsplint and Cord! Thank you for the encouragement. :)

Cord - I officially started May 24, 2009. My first 4 weeks I was going balls to the walls with my regimen and workout practices. Two of my first three weeks yielded 5+ lb loss. However, after hitting a wall in regard to weight loss, and having days where I felt like I was going to pass out, I did a bit more research and found that a 350+ lb guy shouldn't be trying to eat 1100 calories per day and then jog and lift. lol I modified my calorie intake gradually over the next month until I got to the point where I am now, where I'm between 1800-2200 calories per day, with an average of around 1950.

As for working out, I try to convince myself I'll go 6 days per week but in reality it ends up being 3-4 times per week, with 70 minutes on the treadmill and usually one workout per week involving lifting. Incidentally, my diet has become a relatively low-fat one. I tend to only have chicken, turkey, and tuna now instead of red meat and that's helped a lot. I don't really snack; my only indulgence is the occasional 90 calorie granola bar. (oooooh big party man!)

At the end of June I came down with a pretty nasty case of bronchitis which reduced my time at the gym, but also led some pretty dramatic weight loss for the first few weeks I had it. The fourth week, I didn't lose any weight though, as I bet my body was recuperating since I wasn't really burning fat I was losing all manner of stores (muscle included) while I was sick. In the 3 weeks or so since I've gotten over the bronchitis I've been on a tear since I've been able to get back into the gym. I've lost another 12 pounds in that time period. :)

Things I Like!

I really like the following...

Kix cereal
Fresca
Cherry Coke Zero
Ground Turkey sloppy joes
Subway turkey subs
Egg Beaters
Eggo Low-fat waffles
Multi-grain cheerios
Mixed vegetables (in a package that lets you steam them right in the microwave!)
Grilled Chicken
Tuna Helper
Quaker Low-fat Chocolate Chunk Granola Bars
Sugar-Free Jello
Low-fat French salad dressing
Low-fat Parmesan Cheese
Fat-free Cheese singles
Splenda (I know, I know...)
Oatmeal
Grits
Granny Smith Apples
aaaaaaaaaaaand...

WATER! I used to drink anything except water if I was thirsty. Now I drink water with my meals.

That's all I can think of right now, I'm sure more will come to me. lol

Hey everyone!

I've been working quite a bit these last couple weeks. Even though I haven't gone over in calories (never over 2200) I've gained three pounds. :banghead: I'm finally feeling physically back to 100% after the bronchitis I had, and I think some of my gain is related to my body rebuilding after that. My sleep schedule was out of control for a few days too, which I'm sure didn't help. I want to get back on track so I can be under 300 by the end of this month.

Hmmm... I eat right, I get enough sleep, I go to the gym, and I lose weight! No one told me this would be so complex! lol

After a brief lapse, the weight loss is back on. I'm down to 304 (303.4 actually) and I'm feeling good!

Y'know - the more I travel this road I am starting to believe that a great portion of it is purely 'mental'. The way I choose look at something - to 'see it - determines the way I feel about it.

Rather than focus on the weight I have yet to lose etc etc - I focus my energy on increasing the amount I have actually LOST !.

It's all about changing the way you see it I reckon.

Cord - Absolutely. I started to take my early weight loss for granted. It's not magically happening... Maintaining eating discipline and ensuring activity are where it's at! I just have to "keep my eye on the prize."

Life After 30 - The battle is completely upstairs. Through discipline and dedication, results will ensue. Unfortunately, throughout my life I've been flaky in those departments from time to time! :smilielol5: I hope that being able to see my results from working at this I'll be able to stay the course. :)

Hello unrecognizeable,

Good to see you're doing well.

I'm glad to hear your Bronchitis has cleared up too. :hurray:

The foods you've listed, do they happen to be your favs too? Cuz Man I LOVE SLOPPY JOES!!!! ZOMG!! :willy_nilly: and I never knew they produced a Cherry Coke Zero!?!?!??! Up until a month ago I hadn't touched pop for about 4 1/2 months. Than I had a sip, man was it SWWEEEET. Bleack. Than I opened one and left it in the fridge, and had a whole can!!! WoW. Anyways, I haven't had anymore. BUT Cherry zero blows my mind. I haven't seen just Cherry Coke, or the Cherry Vanilla Coke since about 2 years or so.

Oh btw I also LOVE Turkey Subs!!!

Anyways I hope I didn't make you hungry, I'm Freakin Hungry, I have food on the brain. And I haven't been to bed yet....:willy_nilly:

Laterz :seeya:

Oh P.S. where is your cartoon man from, King of the Hill or that other one that has the same artists?

Hey RunningGirl!

Those foods I listed are indeed some of my favorites and I absolutely love sloppy joes! Cherry Coke Zero is gooooood but I tend to only have it with dinner every now and then. A two-liter of that lasts quite a while for me. I don't mind talking about food, either. I'm pretty good with sticking to my calorie intake regimen. :) My profile avatar is a picture of Cleveland from "Family Guy" by the way. Correct network (FOX) different time slot. :biggrinjester:

Well, it finally happened... I had a week where I went (relatively) nuts with what I was eating. I had one day over 3k calories even. :( Beer, fried food, all that junk. After getting down to 296.2 early last week, I soared all the way back to 303! I weighed in at 300.2 this morning after working out. Back to the old routine for me now, keeping calories in the 1600-2000 range and making sure I don't miss gym sesssions!

unrecognizeable it's not about having a bad day, or even a week it's about being able to recognize it and picking yourself up and moving along the correct path.

From reading your diary I see a very strong and determined Man that has and will do very well at this quest.

Congrats on the weight you have lost so far and good luck to you on the rest of your quest.
