Howdy,

I am trying to make an entire lifestyle change. In 2003, I weighed 110 (I'm 5'6) and lived very unhealthily. I had cigarettes for breakfast and beers for dinner. I was staying out late partying (not good) and didn't really feel that good about myself. My relationships were failing. I was unhappy and you know what? I don't care if you're 110 pounds and look spanky in a bikini, if you aren't healthy and emotionally happy, it doesn't really matter.

So in Sept. 2003, I quit smoking. It took another year to quit drinking. Things changed - I got married and man, I DO feel better about myself. Much happier. I now weigh 143 pounds. Happy but heavier.

I don't want to be stick skinny. I want to be slim and have energy. So, my goal is 125, which will still leave some curves on me.

I also want to build muscle. I own a farm, and I often have to lift or carry heavy things, and I feel like a wimp when one of the guys takes a haybale from me before I drop it.

I also work a day job - 8 hrs of light office work. I hate that - I wish I could work outside or at the farm - but financially right now I need to keep this job.

I love to hike, and so I want to have good endurance for that, too.

I am thinking at this point, a pound a week is a reasonable goal. I have also cut out added sugar and am trying to eat well rounded, healthy meals, keeping my calories to around 1500-1700 a day, broken up into five meals.

I've been feeling great. I started last week, March 7th.

I'm looking forward to feeling even better.

There is a storm coming here today - rain, and then snow, and then more rain. So this morning I decided that instead of getting on the bike, I'd drive over to the lighthouse and walk the mile loop. I did that twice and it was beautiful... the sea was really clear and greenish and wild with whitecaps, but calm further out. The calm before the storm...

I think I will do that more often. Maybe once a week instead of the bike. It took about forty minutes to do the two miles.

This endeavor is something I want to be able to sustain - not just do temporarily. I want to be more healthy.

Anyhow, I feel really good this morning although I wish I'd brought another shirt to change into!

Menu today:

AM - Orange, oatmeal w/ wheat germ & apple, black coffee
snack: banana
lunch: spinach quiche - homemade, 10 almonds, pear
snack: yogurt w/blueberries
dinner: pesto pasta w/ white beans, brocolli
maybe snack: melon quarter, whole wheat toast slice

It took about forty minutes to do the two miles.
a 20 minute mile is a great time... way to go... sounds like a beautiful walk - i love being near the water...

new england has tons of lighthouses -which part are you from?

Yeah, I was walking like someone was chasing me. :D

I am from Southern New England. There are about thirty lighthouses in our state, but this one is particularly accessible, which is nice, and has this mile loop around the shore line.

I was not able to get on the bike this morning and I'm bumming. It's snowing here. My mother in law is in town. Someone please put a lock on the pantry.

I did alright over the weekend except had dessert last night - a "healthy" strawberry shortcake (biscuit, strawberries, yogurt) and a sub on Saturday. But I hiked and shoveled snow.

Walked this morning a mile and a half, some hill, did not have time for the bike.

I got on the bike this morning and also did some calisthenics. I have been feeling the benefits of eating better. My pants are fitting better. This is good!

Last night I made wraps out of leftover corned beef, mixed greens, eggs from our chickens, and cheese. We had somewhere to go, so couldn't have a sit-down supper. Anyhow, this was the perfect take-away meal - a non junkie junk food! And filling, too!

But, I do miss chocolate and cake and stuff. Birthday is coming up - I will have to allow for cake.

This morning I weighed myself and I am 142, and I was hoping i'd be more like 139. Realistically though, I am right on track for losing a pound a week. I also feel a heck of a lot better than I did last month. Also, I measured my waist, and it is down another two centimeters.

I did the bike this morning and calisthenics. I must admit I was sort of tired of the bike by about minute 2. Gotta keep it up, though.

Last night we had:

Baked sweet potatos - I had a quarter.
curried couscous with red beans and kale

That was yummy. I have to remember to do that one again.

Welcome to the forum!

Thanks for hitting up my DL thread!

You sound like you're well on the way to your goal--that's excellent and keep it up! 125 sounds like a beautiful weight to be! Do you know who Jessica Alba is? Most American dudes seem to dig her, and she's 125 lbs and 5'6"--here's a pic:

HA HA! Anyway, good luck in your endeavors

She must be wearing a heavy bikini, cuz I don't see any of that 125 in the places 125 usually goes! LOL. :D

Anyhow, I'm trying to be realistic, so 125 might be too thin... I'll have to see when I get there. I am also trying to tone things. I turn 39 this year. I want to be 125 but I don't want to look like some old wrinkled 125.

Inspiration: Demi Moore, over forty in a snazzy bikini.

Fun fun fun!

Here is my day:

2 miles around the lighthouse, full-out running 15 sec intervals /fast walking 60 sec intervals (trying HIIT) - 35 min.
Stretching - 10 min.

I am a bit bummed because I "slept in" and was not able to exercize this morning. Tonight I am going out to dinner so won't have tonight to get on the bike, so I will do today as a day off of exercize, and will exercize tomorrow.

Here's my day plan:

Barn chores 20 min.
Office work 8 hrs.
Walk after lunch - 10 min.

Oatmeal with apples and wheat germ
Orange juice
Multivitamin

Banana

Leftover pasta w/ beans, soy protein, fresh tomatos and feta - 1 cup
cottage cheese - .25 cup
Carrott sticks and celery
Orange

Raisins & apple

Dinner: Going to an East Asian restaurant. Plan is chicken, rice, brocolli.

water water water water water water water.

Total around 1700 cals today.

Feeling very loggy today. Might be the weather change (it warmed up overnight and is Spring-like.)

But, I am wearing my 7 LEI jeans and they fit just right, so I am psyched.

03/26/07

I spent the weekend:

Eating about 1700 cals per day, no junk allowed.
Had milk and sugar in a coffee yesterday. Also had banana bread.
Exercize:
Cleaned 4 hrs Saturday, including vacuuming van out.
Sunday: Helped remove stuck trailer, then stuck truck, from 2 ft of mud.
Barn chores. (moving rubber mats, mucking, moving hay)

Today -

10 mins (what I understand to be) HIIT on stationary bike
10 mins calisthenics
5 mins stretching
25 mins barn chores

oatmeal with raisins, apple, wheat germ
1/2 grapefruit
black coffee

apple

pasta with tomatos & black bean
celery sticks
orange

yogurt

stuffed acorn squash
salad
1 slice whole wheat toast

Low calories today but I may add some almonds to the yogurt snack to bring it to around 1600-1700.

Feeling healthy and thinner although my clothes don't feel any different, except around the waist. This is week three. I am losing about a pound a week.

Indy

Feeling the difference in how your clothes fit you is a HUGE step! Moreso then the number on the scale in my book!

And Demi definitely looked good in that bathing suit...
wowza :)

What's weird is, some clothes fit better, and some fit worse. What is up with that.

I guess I am changing. Things are shifting!

Last night, instead of stuffed squash *which we ARE having tonight instead*, we had to cook an omelette to get rid of some of our eggs (our chickens are on a layfest.) So we made it with fresh tomato, fresh chopped spinach, and feta, and had an italian sausage and whole wheat toast. That brought my day up to the 1600 cals I was shooting for, the bulk of which I consumed at dinner!

This morning I did weights, and barn chores.

Food:

Puffed wheat with added bran, raisins, and banana, with 2 tblsp vanilla yogurt
black coffee
Lots of water

orange
handful of peanuts

leftover sausage (about 1/2 link) chopped with fresh tomatoes
carrot sticks
rye crispbread (2)

apple

acorn squash stuffed with couscous, raisins and feta
Lots of water
1 cup grape juice

I won't be able to get "normal" exercize in at the end of the week as I will be away at the show (Thurs-Sun.) I am thinking I can walk around the fairgrounds.

Last night I woke up sweating, and I'm thinking, it's too early for hot flashes (my mom didn't start til 50) ... is it connected to my exercize and food consumption? Like, am I literally burning cals while I sleep? T says that when you eat "good" cals, your body burns fat more efficiently. He should know, as he's used to cycle and is quite thin and muscular. Lucky him.

Howdy, SW et al,

This morning I walked two miles, about 3.5 mph, working on endurance rather than intensity. I tried to walk hard enough where it would be difficult to talk, but not hard enough to look goofy to the neighbors. That's all I had time for... plus barn chores. I measured my waist and there's another centimeter gone. That's four since I started. I am using that as more of a guideline than the scale, which is not reliable. On the scale, I am losing (three pounds so far) but it wavers by a pound or so, and my expectations usually get a nice check. So, I am trying to weigh myself only once a week rather than every day.

Vittles:

Fried egg
1 slice toast with margarine
orange juice

water water water, banana

leftover half acorn squash stuffed with couscous, raisins, tofu, feta.
1/2 grapefruit
1 string cheese
water

4 oz yogurt with blueberries

spinach tortellini with pesto sauce, garlic bread, and salad.

The wicked daughter made brownies and left them in my house. I think I will have one and wrap the rest for the show.

+/- 1700 cals

Good morning! I am back from the show. For three days we ate out of a cooler during the day (thank goodness I packed healthy stuff) and at night went out to eat, and ate fairly sensibly but not STRICTLY diet-wise. I was running around most of all of the three days. So I probably consumed 2000 cals rather than 1500 per day, maybe burned 150 above and beyond, and did not drink as much water as I should have. The result? I lost another two pounds. Sometimes life is funny that way!

This morning I did HIIT on the old fan bike for 20 mins, and 20 mins barn chores.

1 slice Whole wheat toast with 1 tbslp pbutter
1/2 grapefruit

banana

leftover tortellini with red sauce - 1 cup
1/2 grapefruit
carrots, celery

yogurt with blueberries

raisins

chicken with spinach and brown rice.

Have a great day!
Indy

Good morning!

I walked/ran three miles with hills this morning, plus the usual chores.

boiled egg
whole wheat toast (no spread)
1/2 grapefruit

raisins

leftover pasta with red sauce
pear

yogurt

Steamed Veggie wraps with cheese & vegetarian refried beans
Rice

A low-cal day but it leaves room for fruit juice or a small dessert.
