I'm new!

I just found this site and it seems like a great place for some extra help and motivation.

Male/22/181 pounds/5 foot 8.

My current BMI is 27.4

I usually go to the gym 3 times a week( M-W-F) and try to burn off anywhere between 300-800 calories on the treadmill.

I also do some strength training.

I use the site and use the daily plate feature to count my calories. I am trying to loose 2 pounds a week. The site says that to loose two pounds a week I need to eat around 1500 calories a day. I am not sure if this means I can eat more if I burn off say 300 a day though.

My problem is that I am not a very healthy eater. I love sugary cereals, beef jerky, Slim Jims, Snickers bars, honey roasted peanuts, pistachios, and Coca Cola. At one time I would have up to and above 128oz of Coke or other sodas a day, and little to no water. On the site it also counts my sodium intake and I often get above 4,500 mg of sodium a day, which is not healthy.

Can you please help me in choosing the right kind of foods. Despite eating only 1500-1800 (sometimes I go over 1500) or so calories a day for a few weeks, I have lost very little weight.

Also how much should I rest between each resistance exercise session? I heard that the minimum is 3 days.

Thank you and I look forward to this community. :)

You need to totally rethink your nutrition. Read the sticky posts in the nutrition section here.

I recently made this posting about sodium in the nutrition section of another diet forum. I suggest that you read it. There are some other valuable nutrition lessons in that section too.

You want to be having less of the stuff that you listed and more protein and fruit and veg.

Change the sugary cereal to one without sugar. You can add sweetener or fruit to sweeten it.

Ensure that you are getting the right amount of fibre and calcium too.

Set nutritional targets for yourself and use the daily plate to monitor whether you are hitting them or not.

Hi frosted1, hmmm I am trying low GI - basicially high protein, fruit and vegetables.

Normally I am into chocolate plus fatty foods. I been on my eating plan for 14 days now. I notice that my cravings for sugar stuff - has just gone right down.

Sorry, don't know much about resistance training, but I'm sure others will be able to help... have a great day and welcome aboard :)

Thanks a lot for the info and links.

Thanks for the info! I will try that and see if my sugar cravings go down too.

Good morning,
Have settled in with a food plan? Or do you write down what you eat or your goals etc???

That kind of stuff helps me :)
