I'm new :)

Hello all. I'm new here! My name is Nikki and I'm 21 (22 next month). I've been married for 3 years and I live in Okinawa, Japan with my husband who is in the Air Force. :patriot:

I've been overweight for probably all of my life. I was around 200lbs when I got married and have gained 60lbs in the 3 years that we've been married (and I'm 5'5"). A good amount of it probably came from stress/emotional eating - I moved away from my family to get married...husband deployed...moved overseas...had marriage issues...etc. I am finally fed up and want to lose this weight. We are finally at a good point in our marriage and want kids...but I need to be healthier first!

My plan isn't so set in stone. I am joining Weight Watchers tomorrow and will be looking for healthy recipes to try so I can make a list before going food shopping. I'm a picky eater so it's always hard when trying new things. I want to try a cycling class - we have a gym on all the bases here are they are free...I know I need to get cardio in a few times a week as well as strength training. I participated in a weight loss challenge for almost 5 months with a team/trainer and I know what to do - I just need to put it to good use!

Anyways - I will be browsing around the site and hopefully can update you all with some weight loss soon! We leave Okinawa in a year and I want at least 60lbs gone before then. I have to start with small goals first though...so I have to think of one!

Please feel free to offer any words of wisdom or encouragement :) Or anything at all really! :bigear:

just a personal thought, weight watchers is great for support etc but i wouldnt trust the points system, it does seem wrong to me to be allowed to eat whatever you want as long as its within your points allowance, even things like weight watchers carrot cake etc. seems like the wrong message to me!? just a thought., ben

I'm with Ben - you can do it w/out WW. I know a lot of people who were successful on it, but I don't feel it teaches you to eat in a sustainable manner for a lot of people.

You have access to some fantastic different kinds of foods in Oki, so take advantage of that as well to add healthy and low fat foods to your life! :)

Seems wrong to me to advocate cutting everything you like out completely, and a good way to induce backsliding or failure in the long run.

Even for the average joe who can lose fine by watching calories and making sure he intakes clean food with a proper nutrient balance it is acceptable to have the occasional slice of cake or order of wings.....if you have calories for it and still made numbers on the nutrients for the day.

Seems like a great message to send, unlike about 1/2 of the crap you spew. But I understand, you need to convince people that any other way is wrong so you can sell more hormone typing or wtf-ever it is you are shilling for.
