I'm new to this page all over again...

Hi everyone. My name is Bridget, and I am a total food addict. :piggy:

It's been about 6-8 months since I quit using this site and gained another TWENTY pounds! :ack2:

I was a chubby kid, a chubby adolescent, and finally a chubby teenager. In high school I got sick of being totally self-conscious all the time. I went from being 5'9" and 200 pounds to 5'9" and 150 pounds in about six months. I was a size 10-12, and I looked great. I didn't think I looked good at the time, because I wanted to be a size zero like my friends, but when I see pictures of myself from then... I WISH I had appreciated that I was healthy and looked good at that time.

I stayed between 150 and 160 throughtout most of college. When I was 21 years old my "first love" and I broke up. I spiraled into a crazy depression where all I did was crawl out of bed occasionally to drive to McDonald's and buy 15-20 cheeseburgers, or to drive to Dunkin Donuts to buy a couple dozen eclairs. I didn't even change my clothes, brush my teeth, or shower on a regular basis for a while there. I gained a lot of weight in a SUPER short period of time.

Once I decided to start "acting" semi-normal again, I started dating. I used dates as a way to go to restaurants and just binge on as much as I could shove down my throat... And I can shove a LOT down my throat.

I started seeing one guy regularly, and we both just ate and ate and ate. The ammount of debt I racked up on credit cards for food is seriously amazing. I quit hanging out with anyone but him. He said I was beautiful, and wasn't fat... Which I wanted to hear/believe. I had quit looking in mirrors and was wearing sweat pants all the time, and by the time I did finally LOOK at myself - I was over 260 pounds.

I got married. I was the fat bride I had never wanted to be. I love my husband, but we're comfortable - and I just kept eating to fill the gaps in my life that I was miserable about.

Now I'm here.
I'm almost 29 years old, and I'm super close to weighing 360 pounds.
It has to stop somewhere.
No one else is going to do it for me.

I hope I can get to know some cool people here, and have an extra support network to turn to when I feel like Ronald McDonald or the Burger King are my only friends.

Thanks for listening, and I'm really happy to be here... Again. :coolgleamA:

Hi Bridget, you put your story very well.
Believe in yourself to make the right choices and I know you can do this. I see you're also able to be honest with yourself about your weight gain and feel sure that this will help you turn things around.
I hope to be reading the rest of your story in a few years time and seeing that you have lost the weight.
Best wishes to you

Thanks for the welcome!

I am trying to adapt to a vegan lifestyle in an effort to not only lose weight, but also just be generally healthier. I have high normal cholesterol, high blood pressure, and a fasting blood sugar in the pre-diabetic range. I'm only 28! What the heck am I trying to do to myself?!!

I figure adapting to a new plant-based diet now is less drastic than getting cut open and having my arteries scraped in a few years!

I really hope this site can be a place where I can gain information, friends, and support in the years to come!!

I have a LONG journey! :driving:

Good on you for trying the vegan approach! I did it a few years ago, and well I didn't last, I did find that I had more energy, food tasted better, I lost weight, ...the list goes on!

There are some REALLY great, yummy and healthy vegan recipes out there!!

Let us know how that goes! You never know- you might convert some of us :)

Hey Lady, welcome back!

Switching over to a vegan diet can be very overwhelming at first, so just take it slow and make small changes.

Best of luck with the renewed healthy goals!

Thanks, that's what we're trying! We have chicken, cheese, and ground beef we bought before we decided to do this, so we're just working less and less into our diet. Plus our tax return just came in, so we are going to go get a GOOD food processer and rice cooker.

P.S. How exciting is it that my husband decided he wants to do this too? I love teamwork!!

That's awesome...no sense in wasting food! It's also great that your husband is on board with things. It will make the transition so much easier!

Welcome Back! I'm new myself!

"No one else is going to do it for me."

That quote alone makes you further along than most people that want to lose weight but kind of assume it will just happen.

Just make sure you listen to your body. I know people who are vegan who have had great success, and others who actually got sicker! So again to each their own!

There's so many ways to lose weight the most important thing is to find the one you can commit too (unless it's some crazy pill or something of course lol)

Good Luck!

I hate that my scale and I are having a disagreement at the moment... It doesn't seem to realize that I base my worth as a human being on the little digital numbers it displays for me... First it had the nerve to not move for a few days, and now this morning it moved the wrong direction!! :svengo:

NOTE: I realize my desire to see instant results is crazy, but I am not in the mood to be rational!! I have been so good with being more active and eating well. GRRRRRRRR!!!

Aww! Don't worry- we've all been there :)

Hey, did you take your measurements? I know when I started (and it's still the case), that I see the loss in the inches quicker than the lbs! I would suggest you take those as well, because you might be surprised at how much you're losing inche wise! :)

keep up the good work! It can be frustrating to work so hard, and not see results. But just remember, it took time to put the weight on, it's going to take time to get it off! It's not an easy journey- but you can do it! And we're here to give you support!

You're doing all the right things, so keep it up, and stay positive! If you keep doing what you're doing, you'll see results!! :)

Tape measures scare me...

You know, I thought about taking my measurements Tik... I'm just afraid the measuring tape won't go all the way around me, and then I would have to throw myself off a building... :leaving:

I took a day off from even looking at the scale today. I'll see where it's at tomorrow, and then I'll decide if I should start looking for a highrise building with lax security. :smilielol5:

On a happy note, I am eating super yummy food and feeling content! That's a big part of the battle, so yay me!

One day at a time you will get there!:seeya:

Welcome back.

You might want to try getting rid of the scale altogether. I used to weigh myeslf everyday and if I didn't see results then, as you said, the throwing myself off a building option didn't seem that bad. Add in the fact that the numbers are just due to day to day fluctuations that mean nothing and it's even more rediculous.

Weigh yourself once a week at most. If your doing things right, you should see changes. I only weigh myself when I'm at my parents house which is every other month or so, so I always get to see good results, even if I had a bad week in there.

Hope this helps.

Archer

I agree with Archer. Weighing yourself everyday can be needlessly frustrating. I always recommend weighing yourself once per week at most. Even better, once every 2 weeks or once a month. It may just save you from going crazy! :)

Hey! I think these folks have great ideas! You don't need to weigh yourself every day or even once a week!

If you weigh yourself everyday, you will see major fluctuations that are not the results of your hard work! The other day i weighed myself in the morning, and then in the evening. My second weighing had me a +5lbs from the morning reading! The next morning I got up, and the scale showed a -6lbs loss from the night before, and a -1lbs loss from the morning before. So you can see insane differences! :)

Like it's been said- take each day at a time! As long as you make the healthy choices in the diet, and get physical activity in, you're doing the right things!! :)

It went down!

Everything you all said about not weighing in everyday because it's all just weird body fluctuations that really have nothing to do with losing actual FAT are all so very true...

But in the end I am like a battered woman who cannot leave her evil, abusive, and frustrating partner! My scale did the equivalent of buying me flowers today, and it worked. :coolgleamA:
